Abstract

Intended is to provide a cutting tool, which has a high hardness and an excellent wear resistance, which is so chemically stable even at a high temperature as to have a long tool lifetime, and which has such a sharp cutting blade as can machine a work of steel having a high hardness highly precisely. For this intention, a single crystal of silicon carbide is used to make a portion or the entirety of the cutting blade of a tool such as a variety of bites to be used for lathe turning, boring or planing operations, end mills or milling cutters for milling operations, drilling tools such as drills or reamers to be used for boring operations, or tip-exchanging type cutting tools.
