Abstract

Provided is a volume control valve for a variable displacement compressor, which has a relief valve function. Also provided is a volume control valve for a variable displacement compressor, which can set intake chamber pressure control characteristics to any of such ones without changing the basic constitution that a control intake chamber pressure drops when a discharge chamber pressure rises, that the control intake chamber pressure rises as the discharge chamber pressure rises, and that the change in the discharge chamber pressure exerts little influences on the control intake chamber pressure. The volume control valve (200) for the variable displacement compressor (100) including a swash plate element (107) of a variable inclination angle performs the discharge volume control by opening/closing a communication passage (121) for establishing the communication between a discharge chamber (120) and a crank-case (105). The volume control valve (200) comprises a valve hole (211c) communicating at its one end with the discharge chamber (120) and opened at its other end into a valve chamber (211b), a valve member (212) arranged in the valve chamber (211b) communicating with the crank-case (105) for opening/closing the valve hole (211c), a first spring (213) arranged in the valve chamber (211b) for biasing the valve member (212) in the closing direction, a transmission rod (215) inserted into a guide hole (211d) formed in a valve housing (211) and having one end portion advancing into the valve hole (211c) and abutting against the valve member (212) and the other end portion advancing into a pressure chamber (216) blocked from the valve hole (211c), a second spring (218) arranged in the pressure chamber (216) for biasing the other end portion of the transmission rod (215) toward the valve member (212) against the first spring (213), and valve driving means (220) for receiving the biasing force of the first spring (213) and the biasing force of the second spring (218) thereby to bias a valve member transmission rod assembly having the valve member (212) and the transmission rod (215) integrated, so that it drives the valve member (212) thereby to open/close the valve hole (211c).
