Abstract

This invention provides an apparatus for producing a metal by molten salt electrolysis and a process for producing a metal using the apparatus and particularly an apparatus for producing a metal, which can efficiently produce and recover a metal soluble in an electrolytic bath, and a method for producing the metal. The production process comprises filling an electrolytic tank with an electrolytic bath, disposing an anode and a cathode in an immersed state, and, in this state, conducting molten salt electrolysis. The production process is characterized in that a metal is precipitated in a solid state on the cathode constructed so that a coolant can be allowed to flow into the inside thereof, and stopping the supply of power to the cathode to, while melting the solid metal in the electrolytic bath, immediately withdraw the molten metal to the outside of the electrolytic tank.
