Abstract

The invention relates to a device for folding an intraocular lens (33), comprising two half shells (13, 15), connected by a hinge (17), which can be displaced relative to each other by means of wings formed on the half shells (13, 15) to fold the intraocular lens. The aim of the invention is to provide a device of the above type that can be used for lenses of different diameters. Conventional devices comprise grooves for gripping the lens edges. The device according to the invention has a special design, the side walls (35) extending in parallel to the axis of symmetry (37) and the upper wall sections (39) extending practically at a right angle to the side walls (35) when the device is looked at in the closed condition. As a result, the lens can be reliably held before folding even at a wide opening angle of the device, thereby enabling the lens (33) to be preloaded in an injector (51) during manufacture. A device which is configured as a cartridge (11') comprises an insertion device (41) for insertion in the housing (45) of an injector (51). A slide (57) comprising a blocking device (59) is used to block the wing (19). Prior to surgery, the slide is withdrawn and the preloaded lens is folded by swiveling the wing (19) and is then injected.
