Description

MULTIPLE COMPARTMENT CONTAINER
The present invention relates to a multiple compartment container.
An object of the invention is to provide a multiple compartment container, able to allow the introduction and the exit of different substances ( solid and/or liquid and/or pasty and/or in powder form) through different openings, without contact and mixing of the substances.
Another object of the invention is to provide a multiple compartment container, able to allow also the mixing of different substances within said container, at the user' s choice.
Another object of the invention is to provide a multiple compartment container, able to allow also the automatic mixing of different substances as said substances exit said container.
Yet another object is to provide a multiple compartment container with a simplified structure, safe operation and reduced cost.
In view of these objects, the present invention provides a multiple compartment container, whose essential characteristic is set out in claim 1.
Additional advantageous characteristics are described in the dependent claims. The aforesaid claims are fully set out herein.
The present invention shall be more readily apparent from the detailed description that follows, with reference to the accompanying drawing, provided purely by way of example, in which: figures 1 and 2 are, respectively, elevation and vertical section views of a first exemplifying embodiment of the multiple compartment container according to the invention;

fig. 9 is a similar view to fig. 8, but partial and showing a partially unscrewed screw plug;
- fig. 10 is a similar view to fig. 9, but showing an embodiment variant;
figures 11 and 12 are, respectively, elevation and vertical section views of a fifth exemplifying embodiment of the multiple compartment container according to the invention.
First Embodiment ( figs. 1, 2)
The reference number 10 here globally designates the multiple compartment container according to the invention. Said container 10 comprises a closed hollow body 11, e. g. made of plastic material, with generally cylindrical shape, for part of the height starting from its lower base, and tapered at the top in an integral cone frustum portion 12.
Said hollow body 11 is internally subdivided in two identical compartments 13, not mutually communicating, by means of an integral vertical median baffle 14, extending over the entire height of the inner space of the body.
In the cone frustum shaped top 12 of the body 11 are provided two integral bottleneck openings 15. Said bottlenecks 15 are externally threaded and each of them communicates with a respective compartment 13. A cap plug
16, e. g. made of plastic material and correspondingly threaded in its interior, is engaged in screw-on fashion on each bottleneck 15, with the optional interposition of a sealing gasket ( known in itself and not shown) .
Because of this arrangement, the substance contained in a compartment 13 never comes in contact, within the container 10, with the substance contained in the other compartment 13 and, once the plug 16 is removed, it can be made to exit from the corresponding compartment 13, by pouring it through the corresponding neck 15.
Second Embodiment ( figs. 3, 4)
The reference number 20 here globally designates the multiple compartment container according to the invention.
Said container 20 comprises a closed hollow body 21, e. g. made of plastic material, with generally cylindrical shape, for part of the height starting from its lower base, and tapered at the top in an integral cone frustum portion 22.
Said hollow body 21 is internally subdivided in three compartments 23, not mutually communicating, by means of two integral baffles 24, substantially in a V" arrangement. In the cone frustum shaped top 22 of the body 21 are provided three integral bottleneck openings 25. Said bottlenecks 25 are externally threaded and each of them communicates with a respective compartment 23. A cap plug 26, e. g. made of plastic material and correspondingly threaded in its interior, is engaged in screw-on fashion on each bottleneck 25, with the optional interposition of a sealing gasket ( known in itself and not shown) .
Because of this arrangement, the substance contained in each compartment 23 never comes in contact, within the container 20, with the substance contained in the other compartment 23 and, once the plug 26 is removed, it can be made to exit from the corresponding compartment 23, by pouring it through the corresponding neck 25.
Third Embodiment ( figs. 5, 6)
The reference number 30 here globally designates the multiple compartment container according to the invention.
Said container 30 comprises a closed hollow body 31, e. g. made of plastic material, with generally cylindrical shape. Said hollow body 31 is internally subdivided in two identical compartments 33, not mutually communicating, by means of an integral vertical median baffle 34.
In the top of the body 31 are provided two integral bottleneck openings 35, with substantially parallel axes. Each of said bottlenecks 35 communicates with a respective compartment 33. A respective disk plug 36, e. g. made of aluminium film, is removably fastened on each bottleneck 35. The bottom of the body 31 has a cavity 37, open outwardly, in which is housed, in the resting state and in removable fashion ( Fig. 5) , a tubular "Y" shaped fitting 38. Said cavity 37 is closed towards the exterior of the body 31 by means of a sealed film 39, removable in tear-off fashion, e. g. made of plastic material. Said tubular λλY" shaped fitting 38 has two outer tubular branches 38.1, essentially- parallel and communicating, through respective elbows, with a central tubular branch 38.2.
In use ( Fig. 6) , after removing the plugs 36 and tearing away the film 39, the λλY" fitting 38 is extracted from the cavity 37 and its two outer branches 38.1 are coupled on the two necks 35 of the body 31. In this way, the substances contained in the two compartments 33 are automatically mixed to each other as they exit through the central branch 38.2 of the "Y" shaped tubular fitting 38.
Fourth Embodiment ( figs. 7, 8, 9)
The reference number 40 here globally designates the multiple compartment container according to the invention.
Said container 40 comprises a closed hollow body 41, e. g. made of plastic material, with generally cylindrical shape, for part of the height starting from its lower base, and tapered at the top in an integral cone frustum portion 42.
At the top 42, the body 41 has a first integral axial bottleneck opening 45.1, internally threaded. A screw-on plug 46.1, externally threaded, is engaged in screw-on fashion with hermetic seal in said bottleneck 45.1. A gasket 46.2 assures the seal.
Said hollow body 41 is internally subdivided in two identical compartments 43, not mutually communicating, by means of an integral vertical median baffle 44, extending over the entire height of the inner space of the body and over part of the height of said axial bottleneck 45.1, to the sealing contact against said plug 46.1 screwed in to close said neck. In the cone frustum shaped top 42 of the body 41 are provided two integral lateral bottleneck openings 45.2. Said lateral bottlenecks 45.2 are externally threaded and each of them communicates with a respective compartment 43. A cap plug 46.2, e. g. made of plastic material and correspondingly threaded in its interior, is engaged in screw-on fashion on each bottleneck 45.2, with the optional interposition of a sealing gasket ( known in itself and not shown) .
Because of this arrangement, the substance contained in a compartment 43 never comes in contact, within the container 40 and with the plug 46.1 hermetically closed, with the substance contained in the other compartment 43 and, once the plug 46.2 is removed, it can be made to exit from the corresponding compartment 43, by pouring it through the corresponding lateral neck 45.2.
On the other hand, when the cap plugs 46.2 are hermetically closed on the respective lateral necks 45.2, by partially unscrewing the screw-on plug 46.1 with respect to the axial neck 45.1 a free passage 47 is opened between the plug itself and the top of the baffle 44. In this condition, by upsetting and/or shaking the container 40 it is possible to mix together, inside the container itself, the substances contained in the two compartments 43, by their flow through said passage 47.
Embodiment Variant ( fig. 10)
The reference 40' designates the container according to this variant. It is substantially similar to the container 40 described above, comprising two compartment 43 separated by a baffle 44 and the same references are used herein for similar parts.
The only difference is that it comprises only one lateral bottleneck opening 45.2' , internally threaded and closed by a corresponding screw-on plug 46.2' with interposed sealing gasket. Said lateral bottleneck 45.2' communicates with a respective compartment 43, which is also in communication with an axial bottleneck opening 45.1, internally threaded and hermetically closed by a corresponding screw-on plug 46.1.
The other compartment 43 is in communication only with said axial bottleneck opening 45.1.
Fifth Embodiment ( figs. 11, 12)
The reference number 50 here globally designates the multiple compartment container according to the invention.
Said container 50 comprises a closed hollow body 51, e. g. made of plastic material, with generally cylindrical shape, for part of the height starting from its lower base, and tapered at the top in an integral cone frustum portion 52.
At the top 52, the body 51 has a first integral axial bottleneck opening 55.1, externally threaded. A cap plug 56.1, internally threaded, is engaged in screw-on fashion with hermetic seal in said bottleneck 55.1. A gasket 56.3 assures the seal.
Said hollow body 51 is internally subdivided in two identical compartments 53, not mutually communicating, by means of an integral vertical median baffle 54, extending over the entire height of the inner space of the body and over the entire height of said axial bottleneck 55.1, to the sealing contact against said plug 56.1 screwed in to close said neck.
In the cone frustum shaped top 52 of the body 51 are provided two integral lateral bottleneck openings 55.2. Said lateral bottlenecks 55.2 are externally threaded and each of them communicates with a respective compartment 53. A cap plug 56. 2, e. g. made of plastic material and correspondingly threaded in its interior, is engaged in screw-on fashion on each bottleneck 55. 2, with the optional interposition of a sealing gasket ( known in itself and not shown) .
With this arrangement, once the plug 56. 1 is removed, by unscrewing it from the axial bottleneck 55. 1, it is possible to let the substances contained in said two compartments 53 flow out by pouring them through said bottleneck 55. 1 and mixing them automatically with each other once they flow out of said bottleneck.
Moreover, after unscrewing and removing the plug 56. 2 from one of the lateral bottleneck openings 55. 2, corres ponding to a compartment 53, it is possible to let the content of this compartment flow out, by pouring it independently of the substance contained in the other compartment 53, which remains hermetically closed in the container 50.
Obviously, the container 50 may also comprise a single compartment provided with a second bottleneck opening 55. 2 and related removable plug 56. 2.
The above description is provided purely for illustrative and non limiting purposes. In particular, it will be noted that:
the means for closing the openings of the hollow body can be of any kind, e. g. by press-fit, with spray dispensing valve, with swivelling lid, with tear-out tongue and the like;
the material used can be of any kind. For example, the hollow body can be obtained by bending a sheet, e. g. made of metal plate or cardboard, in such a way as to form the lateral walls and the divider baffle or baffles thereof, and the closed by means of one or more lids ( can) or by sealing ( Tetra Brik from Tetra Pak - commercial name) ;
the shape of the container, of the compartments and of their openings, as well as the arrangement of the openings, may be any.
