Abstract
[PROBLEMS] A bearing device for a wheel, in which contradictory problems of reduction in weight and size and an increase in rigidity of the device are simultaneously solved and which has increased strength and durability. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A bearing device for a wheel, having double-row rolling bodies and in which an inner ring (6) is axially fixed by a staked section (13c) formed by plastically and radially outwardly deforming an end of a small-diameter step section (13b) of a hub ring (13). Of the double rows of rolling bodies, the outer rolling body row is composed of tapered rollers (9) and the inner rolling body row is composed of balls (10). Further, the pitch circle diameter PCDo of the tapered rollers (9) in the outer row is set greater than the pitch circle diameter PCDi of the balls (10) in the inner row. Also, the number of the tapered rollers (9) and the number of the balls (10) are set to be the same. The construction reduces the weight and size of the bearing, increases the wall thickness of the hub ring (13) to improve strength, and increase the distance between working points to enhance the rigidity and service life of the entire bearing.
