Definitions
- a seating construction of the type under contemplation here is to display an elongate form adapted and related to the longitudinal orientation of the vehicle, and more particularly to one such seating construction where, within its forward region seen forwardly in the direction of travel, it is rotatably related to a first chassis portion of the vehicle, and within its rear region seen rearwardly in the direction of travel is resiliently supported, by resilient means, by a second chassis portion of the vehicle.
- chassis portions are included as subsections within a chassis belonging to the vehicle, forming the supporting unit or the structure.
- While the present invention directed to a seating construction, may have a more general application, the following description will concentrate on an application in a snowmobile or snow scooter, a motorcycle or similar vehicle and has as its basic design an adjustable adaptation in order to be able to increase the seating ergometry for drivers of such vehicles when the driver is sitting with legs on either side of the vehicle and its chassis structure.
- a seating construction like a saddle, intended for a vehicle, with an adapted elongate form related to the longitudinal orientation of the vehicle, where the seat construction, within its front region, via a pivot axis, is pivotally related to a first chassis portion of the vehicle, and within its rear region, is, by spring means, resiliency supported by a second chassis portion of the vehicle, realise the importance of being able with simple measures to adapt the orientation of the seating construction to the chassis and the height, weight and selected seating position of the driver and/or selected terrain, so that it will be able to offer an individual ergonomic adaptation, related to the use, weight, weight balance and design of the vehicle, in particular in two-wheels means of transport or vehicles alternatively snow scooters.
- the spring means consist of an air spring arrangement, such as a piston-cylinder arrangement.
- the present invention takes as its point of departure the prior art as disclosed by way of introduction and then builds on a saddle-like seating construction intended for a vehicle, with an elongate form adapted and related to the longitudinal orientation of the transport means or the vehicle, where the seating construction, within its forward region, via a rotation axis, is pivotally related to a first chassis portion of the vehicle, and within its rear region, is resiliently supported by spring means by a second chassis portion of the vehicle.
- the present invention more specifically discloses that the prior art thus be supplemented by causing said pivot or rotation axis, within the first chassis portion, via a friction arrangement, to be fixedly relatable or fixable to said first chassis portion and that said pivot axis in addition is to be raisable and lowerable relative to the first chassis portion, for a height adaptation alternatively a lowering adaptation of in any event the front subportion of the seating construction to one, of several available, adjustment position.
- said spring means is to be adjustably secured in a frame related to the seating construction.
- the spring means is here proposed to consist of an air springing arrangement, coordinated as a piston-cylinder arrangement.
- the piston portion, within the piston-cylinder arrangement, is then adapted in cooperation with the frame related to the seating construction in one, of a plurality of available, fixed adjustment position.
- Said frame for the seating construction displays two laterally oriented reinforcement means which are fixedly coordinated each with its sleeve, pivotally related to a friction heel, which is pressable against a third chassis portion, included as a part in or subportion of said first chassis portion.
- a pivot movement for the friction heels is blocked via an activation of a fixedly clamping means, but offers a free pivotal movement for the frame for the seating construction, however against the action of the spring means.
- Said pivot axis is raisable and lowerable via a displacement along a groove or a path within the third chassis portion.
- a pivot axis may be oriented as parts to each side of the frame.
- Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a snowmobile or snow scooter of known construction with an inlaid fixed securement of a pivot axis (43) for the seating construction, which otherwise is supported by spring means;
- Fig. 2 is an oblique top plan view of a seating construction where a seat or saddle frame, within its forward region, is fixably secured in a first chassis portion;
- Fig. 3 shows the principle securement of the saddle frame to the first chassis portion in side elevation
- Fig. 4 shows the securement according to Fig. 3 in a more perspective view
- Fig. 5 shows in greater detail a seat or saddle frame related to the seating construction, with an embodiment which deviates somewhat from that illustrated in Figs. 2 to 4;
- Fig. 6 illustrates a securement of the forward portion (seen in the direction of travel) of the seat or saddle frame and its right-hand pivot axis;
- Fig. 7 illustrates, in perspective view and in cross section, a friction arrangement.
- Fig. 1 now illustrates the prior art within a seating construction for a snowmobile or snow scooter, according to Patent Specification USPS 6,276,653-Bl (Fig. 1).
- Fig. 1 illustrates in side elevation a snow scooter (10) with a resilient or sprung seating construction (75)
- the snow scooter (10) displays a forward portion (13) to which have been coordinated a pair of steerable skis (15).
- a U-shaped tunnel (17) is secured to the portion (13) and carries a driving mat (23).
- the seating construction (75) is rotatably secured with the aid of a fixed pivot axis (43) and resiliently secured with a helical spring unit (63) and a shock absorber (65).
- FIG. 1 illustrates a saddle-like seating construction 20 intended for transport means or a vehicle, with an elongate form adapted and related to the longitudinal orientation of the transport means or the vehicle, where the seating construction, within its forwards region 21, via a pivot axis 22, is rotatably and fixably related to a first chassis portion 23 of the transport means or vehicle 10, and within its rear region 24, by spring means 25, is resiliently supported by a second chassis portion 26 of the transport means or vehicle.
- Figs. 2 to 4 are intended to illustrate a first embodiment of a seating construction, where a seating or saddle frame 27, within its forward region 27a, is fixably secured to the first chassis portion 23, while Fig. 3 shows the principle securement of the saddle frame 27 to the first chassis portion 23, in side elevation, while Fig. 4 illustrates the securement, according to Fig. 3, in a more perspective presentation.
- Figs. 3 and 4 are intended to illustrate on the one hand a friction arrangement 30 oriented to the right and on the other hand a friction arrangement 30' oriented to the left which is mirror-reversed.
- the friction arrangement 30 (or 30') displays a rotary wheel 31 , (31 '), whose rotation blocks the pivot axis 22 in a selected adjustment position but permits the seating or saddle frame 27 to rotate about this pivot axis 22.
- FIG. 4 is intended to illustrate that the frame 27 cooperates with a sleeve 32', which is fixedly related to the saddle or seat frame 27 for a free rotary movement while the adjustment of the pivot axis 22 is fixedly retained and loosely adapted by a fixed clamping means 33'.
- Said pivot axis 22, within the first chassis portion 23, is thus, via a friction arrangement 30, 30' fixedly relatable and/or fixable to said first chassis portion 23, 23' and that said pivot axis 22 in addition is to be raisable and lowerable, relative to the first chassis portion 23, 23', for a height adaptation alternatively a lower adaptation of the seating construction to one, among a plurality (an optional number) selectable, adjustment position.
- Said spring means 25 is to be adjustably secured also to the underside of the seat related frame or seat- or saddle frame 27.
- the spring means 25 consists of an air sprung arrangement, in the form of a piston- cylinder arrangement 25a.

- Fig. 6 Here in Fig. 6 is illustrated a U-shaped stirrup 25c, with illustrated three different and distinct adjustment positions for the shaft 25b' of the piston portion 25b.
- Said frame 27 specially with reference to Figs. 5 and 6, for the seating construction 20 displays in order to support the seating construction 20, int. al. around the pivot axis 22, two laterally oriented reinforcing means 27c and 27d, which are fixedly coordinated with one and the same sleeve 30, rotatably related to a friction heel 33 which is pressable against a third chassis portion 23', included in said first chassis portion 23.
- An additional reinforcing 27e for the construction extends between laterally related sleeves 30, 30'.
- a pivotal movement for the friction heels 33 is blocked via an activation of a fixed clamping means 31, 31', but offers a pivotal movement for the frame for the seating construction against the action of the spring means 25.
- Said pivot axis 22 is raisable and lowerable via a displacement along a groove or another path 40 within the third chassis portion 23'.
- One and the same pivot axis 22 is oriented on each side of the frame.
- FIG. 5 shows in greater detail a seating- or saddle frame 27 related to a seating construction 20 with an embodiment which deviates slightly from that illustrated in Figs. 2 to 4.
