Abstract

An anti-arteriosclerotic agent comprising a substance capable of binding to an estrogen receptor and activating the ABCA1 activity (e.g., an antagonist for an estrogen receptor or a selective estrogen receptor agonist) as an active ingredient. The anti-arteriosclerotic agent can enhance the expression of ABCA1 in a macrophage cell but cannot enhance the expression of a gene encoding a protein involved in the lipid synthesis in the liver. Therefore, the anti-arteriosclerotic agent has excellent anti-arteriosclerotic function.
