Abstract

To provide a contamination degree measurement apparatus that can find a degree of contamination adequately representing a contamination state of a measurement object such as carpet. A probe (3) detects a measurement color that is the color of a measurement surface. A main device (5) is a contamination degree measurement unit that finds the degree of contamination of the measurement surface from the measurement color by using a reference color that is the color of the reference surface corresponding to the measurement object in a non-contaminated state. The main device (5) finds the degree of contamination corresponding to a color difference between the reference color and measurement color based on a contamination degree conversion parameter representing a difference in color per unit degree of contamination. The contamination degree conversion parameter is changed according to a position of the reference color in a uniform color space. By changing the contamination degree conversion parameter, the difference in measurement results caused by the difference in color between carpets or the like is reduced, thereby identical measurement results are obtained if the color of contamination is the same.
