Description

NOVELTY IN ADVERTISEMENT APPLICATION USED IN COMMUNICATION
SYSTEM
Related Art
Present invention relates to all communication systems such as GSM, PSTN, VOIP, WIMAX, 3G and 4G and all press, audio and visual communication services applied via theni.
The invention particularly relates to advertisement applications applied in all press, audio-visual communication services of the said communication systems.
Background of the Related Art The system used the most in mobile communication today is the system called GSM.
GSM is the abbreviation of Global System for Mobile Communications.
All GSM standards use cellular network and is capable to make interchange between cells even during paging. A cellular network is a type of wireless network created by use of several cells. Each cell is served by a base station. Cellular networks are characterized in that they have higher capacities with consumption of less power.
The said base stations are known as units broadcasting in two-direction mobile network system. Base stations differ from an antenna in radio system in that they can receive and transmit signals. That is, they have two separate antennas.
Today base stations have directed antennas capable to make broadcasting at different powers to various directions. Base stations can be of different size and shapes so as not to attract attention of people. Directed antenna are the antenna directed to transmit radio frequencies (RF) waves to certain direction and longer distances or to perceive better the waves transmitted from certain directions. The said antennas can be fixed antennas in radio, tv and base stations as well as variable by means o rotor in base receiving stations. GSM has several generations: • First generation GSM called 1G employs analogue data flow.
• Second generation GSM called 2G employs digital data flow.
• Third generation GSM called 3 G has enabled faster data transmission and more efficient bandwidth utilization. • Fourth generation GSM called 4G is expected to solve the problems not solved by 3G, mainly coverage area.
GSM system consists of several independent units. Basically a gsm network consists of 3 basic parts namely mobile station, base station and exchange central called network subsystem. Mobile stations are known as mobile phones carried by the subscribers.
Base stations are the unit communicating constantly with mobile phones and controlling radio interface. In brief, mobile phone and exchange station can be called units providing connection between mobile phone and exchange station.
Exchange stations are the main units where connection is provided for the object of calls from mobile phone to mobile phone or cable phone calls. Exchange stations are also responsible for GSM network operation and management.
Today GSM 900-1800 systems are used in general. Particularly since transmission is made by use of 900 MHz and 1800 MHz radio frequency, they are called GSM 900 and GSM 1800.
DCS 1800 is the mobile communication system used in the United Kingdom. Communication is provided over 1800 MHz frequency.
PCS 1900 is the mobile communication system used in the United States of America. Communication is provided over 1900 MHz frequency. Basically, the subsystems used by the said 3 systems are similar to each other. They are called with different names just because of the frequency they use and different names. GSM system operates with cellular logic. Wireless is divided into effect area cells and each cell has a base station. Base station system consists of BSC (base station controller) and BTS (base transceiver stations).
- BSC commands all functions related to radio waves. MS (Mobile station) handover functions radio channel allocation and cell data collection.
BSCs are controlled by MSCs where they are connected.
- BTS controls radio interface unit. BTS equipment consists of transceiver - receiver and antenna and serves to each cell. BTSs are controlled by BSCs. A base station can serve more than one cells. The units where base stations are connected to are called BSC (Base station controller).
BSCs controls the base stations by use of 2 of channels allocated for talking. Base stations are connected to control centers of MSCs and transmits the control data made for base station to MSCs. Thus MSCs controls which base stations are active in MSC area and control the channels used.
MSC (mobile service switching center) is the unit where the communication at main central, network connection, talking and data communication are made. It provides connection from GSM to GSM, from GSM to PSTN and GSM to Client Servers. A base station has a coverage area of maximum 20-30 km radius. Each cell operates at different frequency and for that reason a cell does not coincide with another one. Otherwise, interventions from neighbor cells to the cell may occur that is coincide with VLR coverage area. 128 talking channels are shared by neighbor cells. Base station directly takes the wireless signals from air and transmits them to exchange station.
GSM separates each talking channel into 8 time slots by use of TDMA (time division multiple access) technology and transmits data over the slots. 7 time slots enable talking for 7 people at the same time. But one of the slots are used for control object. 1. First of all before a subscriber (MS) start a talking, it asks for signalization channel with Random Access Channel (RACH), one of the logic channels.
2.If there is an empty signalization channel, BSC allocates a place for the subscriber. 3 After this stage, MS requests a calling loading from MSC/LVR where MS service is obtained.
4 Upon such request MSC goes to BSC and controls if there is an empty TCH (talking channel) or not. The date is transmitted to BTS (Base Transceiver Station) and MS (Mobile Station) to activate TCH (Talking Channel)! After that the calling scenario starts. The called subscriber is controlled and if the called subscriber answers, talking connection is established.
Mobile phone which is ON and located within coverage area recognizes the message of warning/informing incoming call transmitted via the PAGCH channel of the cell. There are two terminal points regarding transmission of the warning/informing messages.
• First of them: warning/informing each cell included in network at each calling to be made to mobile phone, in this case current bandwidth will be wasted.
• On the other terminal, in case of place change of the subscriber, the data related to location change are transmitted to system at cell level. As a result of such approach, it is clear that several location change messages will be transmitted to the system.
The solution of the above explained two terminal points arises from grouping of cells and creation of locations. Production of location updating information in such solution is required only when location is changed, and therefore the disadvantages of the above mentioned two terminals are solved.
HLR and VLR constitute basic milestones in making call from one mobile phone to other.
HLR (Home Location Register) is the data bank, a kind of database storing all data related to location of the mobile phone and identity details of the subscriber. HLR contains the information about the location of the subscriber nationwide. VLR (Visitor's Location Register) contains the details of subscriber located within MSC area. It also stores CLIP/CLIR or Operator Settings.
PSTN (public switched network), another communication system, constitutes fundamental of several data networks. Connection of modem to a simple ordinary phone is, in fact, the simplest form of data communication.
PSTN is basically a telephone network. In other words, its main function is to mutually exchange data in the form of man voice. PSTN is an analogue service. Analogue connections are very convenient to convey man sound signals. They can also be employed to convey digital data but in such case digital data should be converted into analogue signals. And such operation requires use of a modem. In fact, PSTN is used widely to convey various signals such as image, picture and texts.
Voice over IP (VoIP), another similar communication system is a communication technology enabling integration of sound services via standard internet traffic and widely used recently and proved to be secure and reducing costs. It is an application providing free of charge phone call of internet users between specially equipped PCs or normal phone device and those PCs.
Despite its low quality, the users think that this application used before VoIP technology as the best way of providing saving in long distance and international calls.
Since in time, sound quality on IP network has reached the sound quality on telephone network, VoIP has become one of the most preferred communication technologies. The above mentioned systems are applied via similar methods worldwide.
However, the calls made by use of the said systems cost too much to the users. Particularly, the mobile phone user pays considerably high fees to operators for the phone calls. The reason is the fact that installation and operation of the above mentioned system are considerably expensive. Operator firm charges those costs from customers, the mobile phone users against the service the operator renders.
A system financing the said system has not been in use yet. Several sectors are financed by advertisement revenues today. Particularly, free of charge publication of visual, audio and press media such as television, radio and newspapers are financed by advertisement sector.
The communication in the above mentioned advertisement applications are one way. A net report indicating if the ads published/broadcast in media are watched or not cannot be provided.
For instance, the advertisements broadcasted between programs on TV are mostly not watched. Serious problems both for consumer and producer firm are experienced due to the fact that they do not address the target mass.
Since the commercial giving firm does not reach its target mass, a considerable decrease in product sales occurs. The TV audiences not being target mass of the firm but watching the ads they do not want to lead them to have not very good opinion about the firm. Watching commercial of a product not interesting him/her is a considerable loss of time for the audience.
In addition, commercial giving firms cannot reach the potential customers not following audio visual and press media.
The application filed at Turkish Patent Institute under application no. TR 1999 02142 entitled Utility Model it is said that "the invention relates to a system consisting of electronic device and computer program monitoring, reporting the audiences watching commercials on the TV from starting time to ending time, and motivating the audience by means of offering a revenue or present in proportion to total watching time of the audiences so as to solve the problem that commercials on TV are not watched due to zapping when commercials start, and thus increasing the watching rates and commercial revenues of the televisions using the system." Again the patent application filed at Turkish Patent Institute Application no. TR 2003 01660 reads as "This invention relates to voice chat, information and advertisement and inquiry systems operating with interactive voice answering technology over phone system. The system enables the users to chat with each other and leave messages. In addition, the users may request operator help. The subject of help can be, for example, any information on the internet and can b provided in the format of sound or text message (SMS e-mail or fax). Commercials can be broadcasted, inquiries can be made and various products can be marketed and sold during the use of system." Again in the publication numbered EP1262065B1 about EPG filed at Turkish Patent Institute it is stated that "a procedure and system providing a list of media adapted as per request of the user over a data network has been described. The procedure consists of supply of customized data of users into a computer system, production of a media list adapted to request of the user based on customized data of the user by the system and supply of the said media list adapted to request of the user via computer system, in such case, media list adapted to requests represents the content adapted as per the request and a commercial adapted to the request. In addition, a system for supply of a media list adapted to user's request by use of a data network has been described and claimed."
The advertising firms in the above mentioned applications can never reach their target masses. And this brings out the said disadvantages automatically.
An innovation that can be used by both advertisement sector and communication sector for the above mentioned disadvantages seen in both sectors.

PSTN communication system has been given as a sample for a preferred application of the invention below. Figure - 1 indicates flow chart showing advertisement application in PSTN lines.
When the caller subscriber (A) holds the receiver, phone operator detects holding of the receiver immediately and transmits the data of subscriber (A) to the advertisement center. The transmitted subscriber data are inquired at database of the subscriber to check if the subscriber has subscribed to the application being subject of this invention. If the result is negative, operator is given negative result so as to allow the procedure continuing in its regular way.
If the result is positive, personal data of the subscriber (A) are received from subscriber database and advertisement matching the data are selected. Thus, a subscriber matching the target mass of the advertising firm is selected. The credit inquiry of the advertising firms of the selected advertisement is made. The firms whose credit is decreasing are notified with SMS / Phone / e-mail as per their preferences. The records of firms who are run out of credit are taken into passive mode and such firms are not transmitted to database for inquiry until they buy credit.
Personal data of the above mentioned subscriber contains the data enabling access to target mass of the advertising firms such as age, gender, profession, geographic location, income level. For instance, consider that advertising firm wants his advertisement reach customers of 18-25 age groups, female and living in metropolitan cities. The advertisement owner firms record the said target mass details, requested number of cycle and voice productions to the server used by the operator directly through operator and/or agent, and wait for the customers. The lists of firms having credit after inquiry thereof are assessed and a list of broadcasting sequence is determined. Starting from the first advertisement on the list, the advertisements are transmitted to subscriber (A) instead of dial sound.
The subscriber dials the number while listening to the advertisements. When the dialed number is known, it is transmitted to the database where details of subscribers subscribed to the application are stored, and inquired. If the dialed subscriber (B) is not subscribed to the said application, advertisement record is not started for the dialed subscriber (B). If the result is positive, the personal details of the dialed subscriber (B) are obtained from the database and the operations conducted for subscriber (A) are repeated. PSTN operator conducts all identity verification operations for subscriber (B) and if the result is negative, dialing attempt fails. The advertisement continues until the circuit is closed. If the result is positive, PSTN operator allocates a calling channel towards the dialed subscriber and ringing signal is transmitted to the caller subscriber. Phone of subscriber (B) rings. Subscriber (A) listens to the advertisements until subscriber (B) answers the phone. If subscriber (B) does not answer the call, PSTN operator cuts the circuit after a period of time and subscriber (A) receives the unsuccessful calling signal.
If subscriber (B) answers the call, the advertisement center cuts only the first serial advertisements transmitted to subscriber (A) and starts second series of advertisements as soon as PSTN operator transmits the signal that the subscriber answers the call.
The said advertisements are transmitted at intervals to be determined by marketing strategies until phone call ends. The feature of the second series of advertisements are two different types and those matching information of subscriber A are transmitted to subscriber A and those matching subscriber B are transmitted to subscriber B. Meanwhile, .PSTN operator measures the time period of the calling.
PSTN operator submits the signal that the c ends, and advertisement center stops the advertisement transmission operation and reduces credit of advertisement giving firm as soon as it receives the signal indicating end of call.
In a preferred application of the invention, since phone call fee is paid via broadcasted advertisements, PSTN operator does not issue bill for the calling. All detailed information of the phone call are stored at PSTN database. Following hold of the receiver by subscriber (A), the following different scenarios and accordingly, different applications develop.
Case 1 : The subscriber holds up the receiver for a short time and puts it down. In this case, no advertisement announces is made. Case 2 : The subscriber holds up the receiver and keeps it up during advertisement and puts it down without dialing a number. In this case, the advertisement in the queue is announced until the receiver is put down and the credit is reduced.
Case 3 : The subscriber holds up the receiver and dials a number. The connection to the dialed subscriber is established but the call is not answered. In this case, advertisement announces are given in their order until the calling subscriber puts the receiver down.
Case 4 : The subscriber holds up the receiver and dials the number. The dialed subscriber answers the call. The advertisements are given in the order at certain time intervals from holding up the receiver until end of the call and close of the line.
A GSM communication system sample has been given below for another preferred application of the invention.
Figure - 2 shows flow chart indicating advertisement application in GSM voice lines
When calling MS-A subscriber dials the phone number and pres dial key, MS-A requests a SDCCH (Signalization Channel) by use of RACH channel. BSC-A allocates a signalization channel by use of AGCH. Thus call request of is transmitted to MSC-A. At this stage, MSC-A transmits numbers of MS-A and MS-B to advertisement center. Advertisement center inquires the details of the transferred number at its own database and checks if it is subscribed to any campaigns being subject of this invention.
If the result is negative for both (MS-A and MS-B), negative result is sent to the operator for regular proceed of the communication procedure. If the result is positive, the personal details of MS-A and/or MS-B subscriber are obtained from subscriber database and the advertisements matching those details are selected. Thus the advertisement matching to the subscriber or subscribers (MS-A and/or MS-B) matching the target mass of the advertising firm are selected. The credit of the said advertising firms is inquired and the firms whose credit is decreasing are notified thereof via SMS / Phone / E-mail as preferred by them. The records of the firms who run out of credit are put into passive mode and are not sent to database for inquiry until they buy credit. The lists of advertisements of the firms having credit after inquiry are assessed and a priority order is determined.
At this stage after MS-A submits its request of calling to MSC-A on GSM operator side, the development will be as follows.
After MSA sends its request for allocation of call to MSC-A, conformance of MS- A to calling procedures is checked. If the result is negative, the system denies the call request of MS-A and call request fails. If the result is positive, an available THC channel is allocated on MS-A side via BSC-A.
Starting from the first advertisement the advertisements available at advertisement center are sent to MS-A subscriber. Call request is sent to MSC- B where MS-B is subscribed while MS-A listens to advertisements. MSC-B sends its call request to MS-B subscriber by use of BTS in its area. When MS- B detects call signal, it makes request for signalization channel from BSC-B, and BSC-B provides signalization channel by use of AGCH. Immediately after that, THC channel is established and signalization channel is released. At this stage, phone of MS-B rings. MS-A listens to the advertisements until MS-B answers the call. If MS-B does not answer the call, GSM operator cuts the circuit after a certain time period and sends the signal that the call is failed to MS-A.
When MS-B answers the call, advertisement center cuts the first series of the advertisements sent only to MS-A and starts second series of advertisements immediately after GSM operator sends the signal to advertisement center that the call is answered.
The said advertisements are transmitted at intervals to be determined by marketing strategies until phone call ends. The feature of the second series of advertisements is two different types and those matching information of MS-A are transmitted to MS-A and those matching MS-B are transmitted to MS-B. Meanwhile, GSM operator measures the time period of the calling starting from answering time. This period is also measured by advertisement center.
GSM operator submits the signal that the calling is ended when the phone call ends. The advertisement center stops the advertisement transmission operation and reduces credit of advertisement giving firm as soon as it receives the signal.
In a preferred application of the invention, since phone call fee is paid via broadcasted advertisements, GSM operator does not issue bill for the calling. All detailed information of the phone call are stored at CDR (Call Detail Record) GSM and advertisement database.
Following MS-A's pressing dial key, the following different scenarios and accordingly, different applications develop.
Case 1 : MS-A subscriber presses dial key of the mobile phone, then gives up calling and presses end key. In this case, no advertisement announce is made and no credit is reduced.
Case 2 : MS-A subscriber presses dial key of the mobile phone, and waits for establishment of connection to MS-B subscriber. In this case, the advertisement in the queue is announced regardless of successful or failure of connection and credit of advertising firm is reduced.
Case 3 : MS-A subscriber presses dial key of the mobile phone, waits for connection to Ms-B subscriber and connection is established but the call is not answered. In this case, advertisement announces are given in their order until the calling subscriber presses end key. Case 4 : The MS-A subscriber presses dial key of the mobile phone, connection to Ms-B subscriber is established and after ringing for a while, the called subscriber answers. In this case, the first series of advertisements are given in the order at certain time intervals from pressing dial key until answering time and second series of advertisements are announced in their own sequence at certain intervals.
Case 5 : MS-A subscriber presses dial key of the mobile phone, MSC-A tries to establish connection to MS-B subscriber but the called subscriber's phone is turned off or out of coverage area. In this case, advertisement announces are given from pressing dial key of the mobile phone of MS-A subscriber and the required credits are reduced.
GSM SMS which is a different preferred application of the invention is given below.
Figure - 3 shows the flow chart indicating advertisement application in GSM SMS lines.
When MS-A subscriber edits SMS and dials the phone number to send and presses send key, BSC-A receives the request and allocates signalization channel. Text message request of MS-A is sent to MSC-A through BSC-A via signalization channel. Number details of MSC-A subscribers are transmitted to technical infrastructure being subject of this invention integrated into phone operator by GSM. The transmitted number details are inquired at subscriber database to check if the number is subscribed to any campaigns being subject of this invention. If the result is negative for both, the procedure is continued in its own proceed. If the result is positive, personal details of MS-A and/or MS-B subscriber are obtained from subscriber database and text advertisements matching the details are selected. The credit of the advertising firms whose advertisements are selected is inquired. The firms, whose credits are decreasing, are notified of the case via SMS / Phone / E-mail as per their preferences. The firms who run out of credits are taken into passive mode and are not submitted to database for inquiry until they buy credits.
The lists of advertisements of the firms are assessed after inquiry and a transmission priority order is fixed. The selected advertisements are sent to SMSC to be delivered to the subscribers. SMSC stores the message so as to deliver it to the subscriber after his/her phone is turned on if it is off.
Meanwhile, GSM operator sends the SMS send request of MS-A at MSC-A to SMSC. SMSC performs all required identity inquiries and gets the regional details of MS-B from HLR. SMSC sends the SMS with attachment of text advertisement to the MSC-B.
MSC-B sends SMS to MS-B via BSC-B and BTS-B. SMS records are maintained b GSM and advertisement center database.
The fees for the sent SMS messages in the preferred application of the invention are financed by advertising firms from the charge of the advertisement messages.
GSM has two types of advertisement for SMS. The difference arises from the differing length of the advertisements. The reason for different length is the fact that operator applies character restriction in the messages to be sent at 1 time, and the short advertisement text is attached to the message to be sent to the MS-B subscriber receiving the message and the long advertisement message is sent to the MS-A subscriber sending the message.
Regarding MMS, the similar method of SMS is applied and it only differs in that GPRS technology is used when sending MMS. Thus, instead of text message video and image advertisement can be sent. Below is VOIP sample which is a preferred different application of the invention.
Figure - 4 shows the flow chart indicating advertisement application in VOIP lines.
When the phone receiver is hold up, it goes into active position and phone operator performs required identity verification and sends dial tone to the Subscriber (A). As soon as the subscriber starts to dial the numbers, it perceives that the call should be directed to UMTH operator and I is directed thereto. Thus a channel between systems on UMTH side and subscriber (A) is established.
At this stage, UMTH systems transmit details of Subscriber (A) and then Subscriber (B) to the advertisement center system. Advertisement center system inquires the subscribers at its subscriber database. If the result is negative, the information of not member is re-sent to UMTH operator and the call continues at procedure of UMTH.
If the result is positive, the personal details of subscriber (A) are obtained from subscriber database and the advertisement matching those details is selected.
Thus the subscriber falling within the target mass of the advertising company is selected. The credits of the advertising firm are inquired.
The selected advertisements are sent to Subscriber (A) starting from the first advertisement in the list.
Meanwhile, the UMTH system performs required inquiry of the dialed numbers in its database to check them. The call is directed to the direction where called number is. The call conveyed to the geographic region where subscriber (B) is located by means of UMTH system is sent to the operator the subscriber is subscribed to together with number details.
The operator receiving the directed call checks the details of subscriber (B) in its own database. If the result is negative, the connection fails. If positive, a channel to subscriber (B) is established and phone of subscriber (B) rings, and ringing signal is sent to subscriber (A).
Subscriber (A) continues to listen to advertisement until subscriber (B) answers the call. If subscriber (B) does not answer, PSTN or GSM operator cuts the circuit after a certain time period and sends overflow tone indicating that call is failed to subscriber (A). When subscriber (B) answers, advertisement center stops first series of advertisements and starts second series of advertisements as soon as UMTH system informs that the call is answered.
The said advertisements are sent until end of phone call at time intervals to be determined as per marketing strategies. UMTH operator measures the call period.
After completion of call, UMTH system sends the signal of call ended to the advertisement center, advertisement center stops sending advertisement when it receives the end signal and reduces credits of the advertising firms. In a preferred application of the invention since the phone call fees are paid up from advertisements on UMTH system, UMTH operator does not issue bill for such calls. All detailed information CDR (Call Detail record) of phone call is maintained at UMTH database as well as advertisement center database.
Figure - 5 shows the flow chart indicating listen-win advertisement application. In another preferred application called listen-win application of the invention, PSTN, GSM or VOIP operator assigns a number for the system being subject of the invention. When calling subscribers dial up a number, they are transferred into the system being subject of this invention. The system welcomes the subscriber with a welcoming message and requests it to select a subject. The subscriber selects the subject of the advertisements he/she is interested in and the credits of the advertising firms whose advertisements are selected are inquired.
The firms, whose credits are decreasing, are notified of the case via SMS / Phone / E-mail as per their preferences. The firms who run out of credits are taken into passive mode and are not submitted to database for inquiry until they buy credits.
The lists of advertisements of the firms are assessed after inquiry and a transmission priority order is fixed, and the interactive advertisements are sent to the subscriber as per this list. It is likely to establish interaction communication with the advertising firm as per preferences of the advertising firm. At the same time, the system also allows the subscriber to access to the advertising firm by pressing one key. If the subscriber does not wish to reach the advertising firm, the advertisements continue in the queue.
In another preferred application of the invention, advertisement card of advertising firm is produced and can be distributed as present from the advertising firm or sold.
Figure - 6 shows flow chart indicating advertisement application of advertisement card.
The said cards grants free of charge or a symbolic feed talking provided that the holder listens to advertisement and establishes interactive communication with the system.
The subscriber calls the operator system to install credit and enters its pin number into the system. The entered pin number inquires if the subscriber has advertisement card or not. If pin number is not advertisement card pin number, credit loading continues in regular procedure. If pin number is card pin number, it is directed to advertisement center system.
The advertisement center sends the advertisement corresponding to the pin number and subscriber listens to it. During advertisement, interactive connection is provided. The advertisement center sends the end of advertisement signal to operator and operator completes credit loading operation.
The invention cannot be limited to the representative applications described under this part. Alternative embodiments that might be realized by persons skilled in the related art on the basis of basic factors covered under scope of protection indicated under Claims shall mean violation of the invention.
