Abstract

XyIeIIa fastidiosa is the cause of the Pierce's Disease in grapevines and other cultures of economic importance that are susceptible to the bacteria. Anti-Xylella fastidiosa substances were developed comprising hen scFv antibodies attached to a lytic peptide Cecropin Pl (CPI), a derivative of a nematode, expressed in M13 phages or in soluble form. The recombinant substance specifically eliminates 100% of the XyIeIIa fastidiosa in culture while using a concentration of 3.6 x IO(5) phages/bacterial in 28 hours of incubation. A scFv expressed in M13 phage eliminates 100% of the bacteria in a culture between 28 and 48 hours. A soluble scFv by itself or attached to the lytic peptide CP1 eliminates almost 100% of the XyIeIIa fastidiosa bacteria in culture. This strategy has a potential application to solve diseases in plants caused by bacteria.
