Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for producing a cylindrical profiled element consisting of quartz glass (5), and to the use of such a profiled element. According to a known method for producing a cylindrical profiled element consisting of glass, a pre-fabricated glass hollow cylinder is softened, in sections, in a heated region, the softened region is deformed by means of a form tool (10) to form a profiled bar with a pre-defined cross-sectional profile, and the profiled bar is lengthened to form the profiled element. The aim of the invention is to provide a method, based on the known method, for the reproducible and economical production of dimensionally correct semifinished products consisting of quartz glass. To this end, a hollow cylinder (1) of quartz glass is softened in the heated region (6, 16) and is lengthened without the use of tools to form a round tube (9) consisting of deformable quartz glass, and the round tube (9) is deformed by means of the form tool (3) to form the profiled bar (11). A plurality of profiled elements (41, 51) is assembled together in order to from the envelope body of a radiator.
