Abstract
The invention relates to a curling tong (10) having a barrel (16) and a stand (14) able to be folded in and out. The stand (14) can be arrested in the folded-out state by means of at least one arresting means (15).
Description
Curling tong
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to the field of devices used for curling and waving hair.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Curling tongs are generally provided with a metal stand that can be folded out to enable the curling tong to be stood down when necessary. A disadvantage in this case is that in the folded-out state the stand can easily come into contact with the heated barrel of the tong, as a result of which the metal stand too quickly heats up. Should a user wish to use the heated tong, which has been stood down on the stand, she first has to fold in the stand, which may have heated up to 1600C. In so doing, she regularly burns her fingers.
It is therefore an object of the invention to improve a curling tong in such a way that the user can no longer burn her fingers when folding in the stand.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention achieves the stated object with a curling tong having a barrel and having a stand able to be folded in and out, wherein the stand can be arrested in the folded-out state by means of at least one arresting means. The arresting means stops the stand from coming into contact with the barrel in the folded-out state. Consequently, the folded-out stand can no longer heat up due to the barrel. The heated curling tong having been stood down on the stand, should the user wish to use it for curling or waving her hair, she can fold the stand in without burning her fingers when doing so.
The at least one arresting means may be in the form of an abutment. The abutment prevents the stand from being able to be pivoted as far as the barrel. The stand can thus no longer come into contact with the barrel and can thus no longer heat up. The abutment may be in the form of a stud. This is a very simple and hence inexpensive but nevertheless very effective embodiment in the form of which the abutment may be implemented.
In a further embodiment, it is possible for the abutment to be in the form of a transitional region that connects two surfaces offset from one another. This too is a very simple and inexpensive possible way of implementing the abutment effectively.
The transitional region may be matched to a sub-region of the outline of the stand. If the stand is made of wire, the transitional region may be provided with radiuses to which the stand is able to fit closely.
If the at least one arresting means is arranged on an actuating lever, the stand is then unable to come into contact with the heated barrel.
To enable the cost of producing the at least one arresting means to be minimal, the arresting means and the actuating lever may be formed in one piece with one another.
A region for standing down provided on the stand, by which the stand can be stood down on a surface forming an out-of-use location, may be provided with a rounded curve. When the stand is folded in, the rounded curve fits closely to a handle by which the curling tong is held. In this way, the stand, when folded- in, cannot interfere with the manipulation of the curling tong.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
These and other aspects of the invention are apparent from and will be elucidated with reference to the embodiments described hereinafter. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a first embodiment of a curling tong;
Fig. 2 is a side view of a second embodiment of a curling tong showing the stand folded in;
Fig. 3 is a side view of the curling tong of Fig. 2 showing the stand folded out.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Fig. 1 shows a curling tong 10 having a barrel 16, a holding handle 11 and an actuating lever 12. A depressor 13 can be actuated with the actuating lever 12. The curling tong 10 can be stood down on a stand 14. Provided on the actuating lever 12 is an arresting means 15 that acts as an abutment and that takes the form of a stud 17. When the stand 14 is in the folded-out state, as shown, it rests against the stud 17. In the folded-out state the stand 14 is thus a considerable distance away from the barrel 16. The stand 14 is therefore unable to heat up against the barrel 16.
Fig. 2 shows a curling tong that has an actuating lever 21. The actuating lever 21 has an arresting means 24 that likewise acts as an abutment. The arresting means 24 is in the form of a transitional region 25 that connects two surfaces 22 and 23 that are stepped down one from the other. The transitional region 25 is provided with a radius and is thus matched to the outline of the stand 14, which is made of wire. In the folded-out state (see Fig. 3) the stand 14 is thus able to fit closely to the transitional region 25. From the point of view of design, this is a very appealing embodiment.
A region 30 for standing down provided on the stand 14 has a rounded curve (see Fig. 3). When the stand 14 is folded in, the rounded curve fits against the holding handle 11 (see Fig. 2). The stand 14, when folded in, is thus unable to interfere with the manipulation of the curling tong.
To the person skilled in the art it will be clear that the scope of application of the present invention is not confined to the examples discussed above but that a plurality of supplements to and modifications of the invention are possible without thereby exceeding the scope of application of the present invention as defined in the accompanying claims.
