Definitions
- the invention is in the field of medical and biological research activities on small laboratory animals in general and more particularly in the context of applications related to pharmacology. These applications make it necessary to take blood samples from a very large number of rodents under inhalation anesthesia.
- the operation on these animals must be rapid and reproducible while providing users with an exposure close to zero halogen particles at best or the maximum permissible exposure values to the udder. It thus integrates the means of collection of the residual vapors of anesthesia as well as the means of elimination of anesthesia vapors impregnating the fur of the animals on which the samples will be taken.
- the chambers or chambers allow anesthesia by group of animals to meet performance objectives (blood sampling on a large number of animals to establish statistics dealing with results on experimental protocols under study). by optimizing the induction times.
- the chambers or induction boxes are intended to be filled with anesthetic gas and then receive the animals to be anesthetized anesthetic.
- Some other individual devices allow a direct induction of anesthetic at the snout of each animal but require an additional operator directly assigned to the manipulations related to the anesthesia of the animals while the samples will be made by another operator so that the overall treatment time is not slowed down. If they respond to identical experimental conditions from one subject to another, they do not meet the economic objectives since two users will have to be assigned to the manipulations. Whatever the equipment used, they are not designed to meet the reproducibility requirements of serial anesthesia of a large number of animals to be treated under satisfactory conditions of speed and cost effectiveness of execution while satisfying the safety of operating personnel.
- the invention is a secure anesthesia device for handling a large number of anesthetized laboratory animals for short periods of time. It protects personnel from residual or accidental exposure to halogenated vapors, from the onset of anesthesia until the end of handling operations. It satisfies their work context characterized by precise, fast and repetitive operations performed on anesthetized animals. It removes the mechanical constraints of manipulations incompatible with these characteristics.
- the invention simultaneously provides the following functions:
- an induction cylinder It is a generally cylindrical container positioned vertically whose bottom is closed and the upper part, through which the introduction and removal of the animal, is opened. .
- This cylinder has dimensions adapted to the size and morphology of the animal so that once introduced, it can not be extracted by itself. For reasons of asepsis, it may be equipped with an inner envelope or other suitable extractable container, disposable or sterilizable, to facilitate the introduction or withdrawal of the animal from the system.
- the cylinder is connected to the source of anesthetic gases that continuously delivers the anesthetic vapors only, and only if the residual gas collection and evacuation devices are active. Said cylinder, continuously saturated with anesthetic gases, will allow a rapid, controlled and reproducible induction of the animal as soon as it has been introduced.
- This same cylinder is contained in a second cylinder whose diameter and height are slightly higher.
- the space between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder is connected to an antipollution device (device with activated carbon capable of capturing organic solvents).
- the assembly constituted by these two containers is called induction cylinder. It will be positioned on a horizontal worktop so that the upper part, through which the animal will be introduced, will be in the same plane as the working surface on which the animals will be handled; work surface itself equipped with devices for collecting and evacuating residual anesthetic gases.
- This device aims to eliminate emissions of anesthetic gas particles in the working environment of the operators during the handling of animals during post-induction operations.
- This device comprises three levels of aspirations of excess anesthetic gases: -AT-
- the first the most charged with halogenated particles
- a dynamic antipollution device known in itself, and equipped with activated carbon filters.
- the usual technical data recognized as giving the best performances for the capture of organic solvents, indicate that the crossing speed of a column of active carbon located downstream, must be close to 0.5 meters per second. Given this prerequisite, the upper part of the induction cylinder, connected to the anti-pollution device, will thus be able to suck up the surplus of anesthetic agents at a moderate rate and calculated so as to satisfy this criterion.
- the second suction level loaded with residual halogenated particles from the cylinder and which would not have been extracted at the first suction level, is carried out at the upper limit of said cylinder.
- the third level of aspiration loaded with residual halogenated particles from the anesthetized animal and placed on the work plan reserved for sampling.
- the high rate of aspiration of the residual particles of the order of 1 meter per second, ensures an almost complete extraction of the halogen residues impregnating the fur when the animals are out of the cylinder.
- the horizontal worktop is equipped with filtering sieves to obtain a vertical, uniform and continuous suction flow from top to bottom so that any effusion of anesthetics in the working environment of the personnel handling will be avoided.
- the second and third level of residual gas suction is achieved by means of a turbine connected to the laboratory-specific charged air and wastewater network.
- suction flow rate is controlled and varies according to the state of clogging of the suction screens. Any anomaly concerning the suction flow (excess clogging of the sieves) or any anomaly of the evacuation system and treatment of the charged air will be taken into account and reported.
- a device security equips the gas supply source which interrupts the arrival (14) of said gas if it detects an anomaly of the suction circuits of polluted gases.
- the entire device is linked to the frame (1) which ensures its stability.
- the cylinder (2) positioned under the two work planes (16), is obstructed at the bottom and open at the top (9).
- the cylinder (2) is placed in the cylinder (4) so that the space (5) existing between the outer surface of said cylinder (2) and the inner surface of the cylinder (4), connected to the suction channel (6). ), is connected to a dynamic antipollution system (7).
- This antipollution system (7) constituting the first suction level of residual anesthetic gas, has a filtered air outlet connected to a pipe (13) itself connected to the suction channel (10).
- the frame (1) intended to collect the two other possible sources of emanation of pollutant residual gases, has a passage (8) located at the junction of the two planes (16) and the upper periphery of the cylinder (2) . It also has two planes (16) integrated and equipped with suction screens (11).
- the entire frame (1) is connected to the general network for discharging and treating the charged air via the suction turbine (12) connected to the suction channel (10).

Abstract
Description
-A-
