Description
Dispositif et méthode pour déterminer l'indice de protection solaire adéquat pour un individu : Device and method for determining the adequate sun protection index for an individual:
The present invention relates to a device for determining the sun protection factor that should be used by an individual depending on the sensitivity of his skin to the sun's light radiation.
It is well known to doctors and especially dermatologists that exposure to the sun is a risk for the skin if it is not protected by sun lotion. It is therefore imperative to protect your skin by applying a protective lotion during exposure to the sun. The sensitivity of the skin to solar risks varies between individuals and there is a link between sensitivity to the sun and skin tone. The effect is that light skin is very sensitive and therefore requires the use of sun lotion with a hint. high protection. On the other hand, a lotion with a lower degree of protection will be adequate for less sensitive skin.
Dermatologists have proposed classifications of the different types of skin according to their sensitivity to solar radiation. These classifications constitute scales distinguishing between 5 and 8 "phototypes" characterized according to the complexion or the color of the skin and, often, The knowledge of an individual's phototype is useful in determining the sun protection factor he needs. However, the phototypes are little known to the consumer who, until now, did not really have simple way to determine himself the one that corresponds to his own skin.
An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a device allowing everyone to know the sun protection index he needs by determining which phototype corresponds to his skin. Patent document US 6'452'188 already discloses a device for determining, pigmentation of the skin compared with a reference surface set. This device comprises a filter which passes only the light in a particular band of the visible spectrum which corresponds to the red light. The device also includes a greyscale scale consisting of more or less dark areas on a support. To use this arrangement positions the greyscale scale near the skin at the top of the leg. Then we simultaneously observe the scale and the skin looking through the filter to determine the gray level whose apparent brightness best matches the apparent brightness of the skin. Finally, the device has indications that correspond to each level. from gray to a phototype. To summarize, it can be said that US Pat. No. 6,452,188 teaches to measure the level of skin reflectance for red light as a means of determining the phototype.
Such a device has some disadvantages. Although inexpensive in comparison, for example, with a laboratory reflectometer, the production cost of this device would probably still be too high to be realistic, for example, the distribute free of charge during prevention campaigns or even as advertising for a brand of sun lotion. On the other hand, although the mode of implementation of this device is relatively simple. Its technical nature could dissuade the average swimmer. Finally, we know that human vision makes it possible to distinguish colors. We can therefore consider that the fact of looking through a filter, allowing only redness to pass through, can lead to the loss of potentially useful information. Thus, although usual in the context of the laboratory, the use of a filter could counterproductive with a device for use by non-specialists. Accordingly, it is another object of the present invention to overcome the above-mentioned disadvantages by providing a device according to claim 1 and a method according to claim 2.
It will be appreciated that the present invention utilizes a plurality of color skin images, rather than a gray scale as taught in the prior art. Thanks to this characteristic, the phototype can be determined directly by the naked eye and in the light of the day without using a filter. Thus, a first advantage of the present invention is its very low manufacturing cost, since the device has no optical filter. A second advantage of the present invention is also related to the use of skin color images instead of a ladder formed by beaches, each having a uniform shade ^ In effet.les images help also represent potential irregularity the skin, such as freckles. Taking these irregularities into account may possibly make it possible to refine the deletion of a phototype. A third advantage of the present invention and its implementation is extremely simple.
Other features and advantages of the present invention will appear on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of example, of a particular embodiment of the invention. The device of the present invention comprises a paper or plastic support in the form of a credit card on which six images representing respectively six skin samples corresponding to the six phototypes of the classification given by the Météo France website (www. These six phototypes are defined as follows: Type I: Clear skin. Milky with many freckles. Type II: Clear skin with few skin types. Freckles.Type III: Clear skin without freckles.Type IV: Matt skin.Type V: Skin very matt.Type Vl: Black skin, It will be understood that the choice of this classification is arbitrary and that the present invention could use other classifications in phototypes. Next to each skin specimen represented on the device is written the sun protection index best suited. In order to determine the sun protection index, it suffices to bring the device of the present invention close to the skin to be examined, for example at the level of the arm, and the image of the device corresponding best to said skin to be examined indicates its phototype and the corresponding recommended sun protection factor.
Another embodiment of the device would include in addition to or instead of six skin specimens corresponding to six phototypes, the color images of portraits of heads including the hair and eyes of the six phototypes described on the website of Météo France.
