Abstract

The invention relates to a water treatment plant (100) and a water treatment method which are particularly suitable for treating drinking water against legionellae. In order to be able to effectively reduce the number of legionellae in the drinking water as easily as possible and without using chemical additives, the water treatment plant (100) comprises a hot water treatment plant (A) that is arranged in a circulation circuit of a hot water system and is provided with a reactor system (R) encompassing a reaction tank (4), into which at least some of the water flowing in the circulation circuit is conducted, and a circulation system (Z). The circulation system (Z) is fitted with a cavitator device (9) to which at least some of the water is fed that is conducted into the reaction tank (4), said water being redirected into the reaction tank (4) after flowing through the cavitator device (9). The cavitator device (9) is designed to generate, in a regulated manner, gas cavitation in the water fed via the feed pipe system, while the reaction tank (4) is designed to degas the water fed from the cavitator device (9) via the return pipe system such that the water conducted through the reactor system (R) is then fed back to the circulation circuit of the hot water system as water that is low in oxygen and CO2.
