Abstract

The invention relates to a panel made of glass for roofs and/or vertical walls for greenhouses for growing crops. On at least one side, the panel is provided with a structured surface which is formed by indentations formed in the glass, with the depth of the various indentations in the panel being between 1 and 100 micrometres. The indentations formed in the panel are of an at least substantially equal depth. The centre- to-centre distance between adjacent indentations is between 1 and 100 microns.

Description

Panels made of glass
The invention relates to a panel made of glass for roofs and/or vertical walls for greenhouses for growing crops.
The known glass panels or glass panes which have been used in general for decades and which are generally used for roofs and/or vertical walls of greenhouses or glasshouses for growing crops consist of transparent and translucent material.
However, in horticulture, there has been a need for translucent material for some time, in which the translucent properties are obtained while the transmission of the panels used is not adversely affected. The translucent properties inter alia ensure that the incident light can reach deeper into the crop, and that there is a reduced risk of the crop becoming burnt, in particular the buds, fruits and leaves.
According to the invention, this can be achieved in an effective manner in that the panel, on at least one side, is provided with a structured surface which is formed by indentations formed in the glass, with the depth of the various indentations in the panel being between 1 and 100 micrometres.
Preferably, the indentations formed in the panel are of an at least substantially equal depth.
Furthermore, the centre-to-centre distance between adjacent indentations is advantageously between 1 and 100 microns.
Measurements during tests have shown that in this way a translucent panel made of glass, otherwise referred to as translucent horticultural glass, can be obtained by means of which the incident light in the greenhouse or glasshouse is spread particularly evenly while at least maintaining the original transmission of the base glass.
It has been found that is it possible to grow a crop using the present invention without damage occurring to the crop and without screening being required. That is to say that the incident light is used essentially completely in order to make the crop grow without the abovementioned risks.
In addition, it has been found that it is possible to achieve a particularly high transmission through the glass using the measures according to the invention.
The surface structure which is obtained also ensures that the surface reflection of the base glass is completely or partially eliminated, as a result of which the transmission of the incident light can even increase by 1 to 4% compared to the untreated (non-etched) panel.
The sheet glass or base glass cut to panels of the desired size will be subjected to an etching process using chemical means in order to form a surface with a regular structure (at least on one side) which consists of the indentations formed in the glass (uneven structures) of substantially identical shape and size.
The values for the desired depth of the indentations which are preferably substantially identical to one another will be between 1 and 100 microns, while the centre-to-centre distance between the adjacent indentations will have at least substantially constant values of between 1 and 100 microns, preferably corresponding to the depth of the respective indentations.
As a result of the treatment which has been carried out, the glass will have a haze factor of at least 50%.
The invention also relates to a greenhouse consisting of a roof and wall structure wherein which one of these structures is provided with a glass panel as described above.
After reading the above, those skilled in the art will immediately be able to think of variants which are within the scope of the attached claims.
