Description
EUCALYPTUS OIL BASED FUNGICID
NATURAL EUCALYPTUS SP BASED FUNGICIDE TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The following descriptive report on this application of the invention refers to the development of a fungicide on the basis of an essential oil with a natural emulsifier in an aqueous solution, particularly, with relation to the essential oil of Eucalyptus sp. emulsified with rice or gum lecithin so that a water emulsion in oil meant for application in plantations through an adequate means, for example, spraying, is formed, thus making possible the treatment of organic and biodynamic crops as well as the reduction in use of agrichemicals on the conventional crops.
Lecithin is a combination of phospholipids that occur naturally in grains such as, for example, soy beans, rice, etc. Lecithin gums are obtained from soy and rice oils after extraction of the respective oils. Lecithin is removed from the oils by a process of vapor precipitation. At this stage, the gums contain around 25% of humidity, 50% of phospholipids, and 25% of oils. The gums are dried in vacuum up to around 65% of the content of phospholipids. Then, a great variety of refined lecithin is produced by filtration, mixture, composition, enzymatic or chemical modification, or oil removal.
Lecithin is a mixture of lipid substances that are derived from the grain processing, and is often used in from animal feed up to pharmaceutical products, and protective coatings. Lecithin is a natural lubricant and emulsifier, which, for example, is used to keep cocoa and cocoa butter in a chocolate bar from separating.
STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE
One of the pillars of the biodynamic agriculture is the production of foodstuffs vital for human nutrition respecting the kingdoms of the nature and the beings that inhabit it. Following this line of thinking, several fungicide, bactericide, insecticide, etc. products were developed as an alternative solution to the intensive use of synthetic products.
There is a wide range of products based on essential oils of diverse vegetal species for control of pests and inhibition of insects.
The essential oils are constituted of aromatic substances, and one of their functions is to protect the plants in their habitat from the attack of bacteria, fungi, and pests in general. The essential oils are mainly obtained from resins, roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit, and bark and peel, and are extremely volatile, presenting a complex chemical composition.
The essential oils act as astringents, aphrodisiacs, analgesics, antiseptics, anticonvulsants, antidepressants, antispasmodics, antiinflammatory, antiflatulents, cicatrizants, depuratives, digestives, diuretics, emmenagogues, stimulants, expectorants, antifebriles, hypertensives, laxatives, tonics, vasoconstrictors, vermifuges.
Each type of oil has a particular effect.
While searching in the state of the art referring to the technical field of the invention, especially, concerning the classes A01N 25/00, A01N 25/22 A10N 65/00, A61K 35/78, and A61K 7/26, several patent documents that propose the
usage of essential oils with fungicide and pesticide elements in general were found.
The document Pl 0.314.464 reveals a fungicide composition containing an oil of a tea tree. A new fungicide emulsion is presented, comprehending an essential oil of a tea tree and an aqueous emulsion, the emulsifier being an aqueous solution of a product of reaction of a fatty acid of a high molecular weight, and an alkali or ammonia compound.
Another process that employs an essential oil is described by the Pl 0.315.454 of a composition for controlled release of an essential oil that has pesticide or fungicide activity, which comprehends a vehicle material for the referred to essential oil, and a component for controlling the release of the referred to essential oil from the vehicle material.
The Pl 9.805.100 also mentions an essential oil that refers to the preparation of phytotherapeuticals from a stem, inflorescence, fine leaves and branches of the species lippia sidoides cham., and its utilization as antifungals, bactericides, and antimicrobials in general. The phytotherapeuticals can be made from infusants, collutoria, teas, dyes, aqueous extracts, and by solvents including ethanol, as well as by using the essential oil of the plant. These phytotherapeuticals has a strong antimicrobial action (bactericide, bacteriostatic, fungicide, fungistatic) due to the presence of thymol and carvacrol in addition to other minor components that act synergically with these phenols.
The document Pl 9.900.060 describes it as an aqueous emulsion in oil for an emulsifiabfe concentrate containing at least one pesticide active
ingredient, in particular, a commercially available fungicide or herbicide, a solvent that consists essentially of one or more esters of vegetable oils, one co-solvent selected in the class of polar aprotic solvents mixable with water, and one tensoactive emulsifying system forming an oil emulsion in water. When the formulation is added to water, it is suitable for fighting pests or diseases caused by pests at a site by treating the site with a composition obtained by emulsifying the referred to concentrate emulsifiable in water.
Quite interesting is the document Pl 0.105.955 that reveals an emulsifiable concentrate of the essential oil of solubilized and stabilized eucalyptus globulus, thus being able to be applied more easily to an animal. The active principle is 1.8 cineole monoterpene, an important constituent of this essential oil. This product has a potential use in the control of both ecto and endoparasites already resistant to the traditional commercial products such as parasites present in the cattle, and, even those of pet animals such as dogs and cats. It can also be used in the form of pour-on, soap, shampoo, in the feed itself, etc.
Following the same line, there are the document Pl 0.105.956 for an emulsifiable concentrate of the essential oil of eucalyptus staigeriana against parasites, and the Pl 0.105.957 that reveals an emulsifiable concentrate of the essential oil of eucalyptus citriodora against parasites.
A lot more comprehensive is the document Pl 0.215.419 showing a biologically reasonable fungicide insecticide, and a method of application to trees and plants, fruit and vegetables to increase their growth, and to control in an
effective manner insects and fungi comprehending at least one tensoactive and at least one natural oil having a high content of terpene.
Thus, as we can see in the state of the art, fungicides and insecticides that employ essential oils are well known.
The patents Pl 0.105.955, Pl 0.105.956, and Pl 0.105.957 are concerned with essential oils of different species of eucalyptus. Their action is quite broad capable of extending to ecto and endoparasites of pet animals such as fleas, ticks, and nematodes as well.
However, despite foreseeing the use of the essential oil of eucalyptus, its application to crops in a pulverized colloidal dispersion is not mentioned.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Therefore, due to the considerations relative to the state of the art discussed above, the development of a natural fungicide whose base is the essential oil of Eucalyptus sp. emulsified with a natural emulsifier of the rice or gum lecithin is one of the objectives of this application of the invention.
The obtained product is a colloidal dispersion that employs a natural emulsifying agent for its consecution. This system containing the essential oil of mint shows to be apparently homogeneous containing a dispersing phase and the other dispersed one with middle-sized particles between those of a real solution and those of a suspension, verifying peculiar properties. The emulsifier of rice lecithin from its gum shows to be particularly effective for this activity as it is obtained from the rice oil.
The developed fungicide shows to be a product in a liquid state that allows pulverization by back-borne pulverizers, tractors or agricultural aviation.
The product allows dispersion on the plantation with excellent coverage comprehending an area from the points of application.
As it is an aqueous emulsion in oil, the application with pulverizers allows a good regulation of dispersion of droplets on the plants achieving a dynamic balance between the dimension of the droplets and the wind conditions avoiding the precipitated fall or excessive suspension by the wind currents.
This product allows the healing or prevention of different pathologies without harming the environment due to its biodynamic characteristics.
Due to its wide-range fungicide properties, and as it is a natural product, its application is quite varied and can be applied to gramineae, oleaginous plants, vegetables, legumes, citrus, and fruit-bearing plants in general.
No cumulative effects of the natural fungicide based on the oil of eucalyptus and rice lecithin have been observed, it being especially used in the organic agriculture.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention proposed in this report is characterized by means of a description of the quantities necessary for a composition in question, which are necessary for carrying out this application in such a manner that it can be possible to wholly reproduce it by an adequate technique allowing full
characterization of the functionality of the claimed patent.
The descriptive part of the report clarifying the aspects that may have been implied in order to clearly determine the protection claimed herein is based on the description of the quantities in percentage of volume of the individual constituents that make up the product.
These quantities may vary on condition that they do not deviate from what was initially claimed.
In such a case the product can be generated by different operations.
The proposed fungicide is based on the colloidal dispersion of essential oil of eucalyptus, particularly, referring to the species Eucalyptus sp. of the Myrtaceae family with a natural emulsifier in the following proportion:
- Essential oil of Eucalyptus sp 10.00% of volume;
- Rice or gum lecithin 10.00 % of volume;
- Water 80.00% of volume.
These quantities applied in a volume of standard reference generate a concentrated product to be sold in drums, for example, of 5 liters, 10 liters, 15 liters, etc.
In order to apply the product to the crop, a corresponding dilution must be carried out in accordance with the specifications informed on the labels of the product, depending on the quantity necessary for application, for example, for 1,000 liters of solution, a quantity "X" of the concentrate must be added obtaining a dispersion to be applied by employing an adequate agricultural vehicle.
Dispersion may be achieved by using volumetric percentage
quantities of the components that are in the following ranges:
- Essential oil of Eucalyptus sp 0.100< M < 20.00% of volume;
- Rice org urn lecithin 0.50% < Em < 50.00 % of volume;
-Water 50.00% < A < 98.00% of volume.
Considering "M" as a determined quantity of Essential oil of Eucalyptus sp., "Em α as a determined quantity of a natural emulsifier obtained from the rice gum, and "A9" the lacking quantity of water.
It is important to emphasize that "M", Εm" and "A9" may or may not be equal, their volumetric percentages being contained in the claims of this patent.
The natural fungicide based on the essential oil and emulsifier of rice lecithin in aqueous solution is particularly sensitive to the effects of rainwater, its application not being recommended under this atmospheric condition.
