Abstract
本発明の複屈折フィルムは、屈折率楕円体がnz>nx=nyの関係を満足し、-COOM基(ここで、Mは対イオンを表す。)を含む、少なくとも1種の多環式化合物を含有しているものである。この多環式化合物は、例えば、一般式(I)で表されるアセナフト[1,2-b]キノキサリン誘導体が含まれる。
本発明の複屈折フィルムは、上記多環式化合物を含有することにより、厚み方向の屈折率が高く、且つ薄型に形成することができる。

技術分野
[0001] 本発明は、 COOM基を含む、少なくとも 1種の多環式ィ匕合物を含有してなり、 3 次元的に屈折率が制御された、薄型の複屈折フィルム、及びその製造方法、及びそ の用途に関する。
背景技術
[0002] 液晶表示装置 (以下、 LCDと 、う場合がある)は、液晶分子の電気光学特性を利用 して、文字や画像を表示する素子であり、携帯電話やノートパソコン、液晶テレビ等 に広く普及している。しかし、 LCDは、光学異方性を持った液晶分子を利用するため 、ある一方向には優れた表示特性を示していても、他の方向では、画面が暗くなつた り、不鮮明になったりするといつた課題がある。力かる LCDの視野角等を改善するた め、 LCDには複屈折フィルムが具備されている。
該複屈折フィルムの一つとして、屈折率楕円体が nz >nx= nyの関係を満足するも のが開示されている (例えば、特許文献 1参照)。このような屈折率の関係を有する複 屈折フィルムは、基板上にホメオト口ピック配向性側鎖型液晶ポリマーを塗布し、次い で当該側鎖型液晶ポリマーを液晶状態にぉ 、てホメオト口ピック配向させ、その配向 状態を維持した状態で固定化することによって作製される。しカゝしながら、市場からは 、さらなる薄型の LCDが切望されている。そのためにさらに薄型の複屈折フィルムが 求められている。

発明の開示

(2)少なくとも一方の表面が、親水化された基材を準備する工程、
(3)上記工程 (2)で準備した基材の親水化処理された表面に、上記工程(1)で調製
した溶液を塗工し、乾燥させる工程。

発明を実施するための最良の形態
[0017] 《1.本発明の複屈折フィルムの概要》
本発明の複屈折フィルムは、屈折率楕円体は nz>nx=nyの関係を満足し、—CO OM基を含む、少なくとも 1種の多環式化合物を含有してなる。ここで、 Mは対イオン を表す。上記 COOM基は、カルボン酸基又はカルボン酸塩を表す。
[0018] 本明細書において、「複屈折フィルム」とは、厚み方向に複屈折を示すものをいい、 波長 590nmにおける複屈折率力 1 X 10_4以上であるものを包含する。「nz>nx= ny」とは、複屈折フィルムの面内において屈折率の最大となる方向(すなわち遅相軸 方向)の屈折率を nx、面内において遅相軸方向と直交する方向(すなわち、進相軸 方向)の屈折率を ny、厚み方向の屈折率を nz、とした場合の複屈折フィルムの光学 的な異方性を示す。
[0019] 本発明において、「nx=ny」とは、 nxと nyが完全に同一である場合だけでなぐ実 質的に同一である場合を包含する。なお、「nx=nyが実質的に同一である場合」と は、例えば、後述する面内の位相差値 (Re[590])が 10nm未満である。
[0020] 上記多環式化合物は、分子構造中に、芳香族及び Z又は複素環を 2つ以上有す る有機化合物であり、好ましくは芳香族及び Z又は複素環を 3個〜 8個有する有機 化合物であり、さらに好ましくは芳香族及び Z又は複素環を 4個〜 6個有する有機化 合物である。このような多環式ィ匕合物を用いれば、可視光の領域で吸収がないか又
は小さ 、、透明な複屈折フィルムを得ることができる。
[0021] このような複屈折フィルムは、屈折率楕円体が nz>nx=nyの関係を満足し、且つ 、高い厚み方向の複屈折率を示すため、従来の複屈折フィルムに比べて、薄い厚み で所望の位相差値を得ることができる。本発明者等の推定によれば、本発明の複屈 折フィルム力 高い複屈折性を示す理由は、次のように推察する。すなわち、—CO OM基を含む多環式化合物が、溶液中で会合体を形成し易ぐこの会合体を形成し た状態の秩序性が高いために、かかる溶液力 形成されたフィルムも高い配向性を 示すものと考えられる。本発明において、多環式化合物に含まれる COOM基の、 複屈折フィルムに及ぼす作用の 1つは、多環式化合物の溶媒に対する溶解性を向 上させ、ソルベントキャスティング法による成膜を可能にすることであり、もう 1つは、 3 次元的に屈折率を制御し、 nz>nx= nyの関係を満足する屈折率楕円体を得ること である。
[0022] 本発明の複屈折フィルムの波長 590nmにおける厚み方向の複屈折率( Δ η[590]
=ηχ— ηζ)は、好ましくは 0. 05以下であり、さらに好ましくは 0. 2〜一 0. 08で あり、特に好ましくは—0. 16〜一 0. 1である。なお、上記 Δ η[590]は、多環式化合 物の分子構造により、上記範囲に、適宜、調整することができる。本発明によれば、 — COOM基を含む多環式ィ匕合物を用いることによって、このような高い厚み方向の 複屈折率 (絶対値)を満足する複屈折フィルムを初めて得ることができた。
[0023] 上記複屈折フィルムの厚みは、好ましくは 0. 2 μ m〜2. 0 μ mであり、さらに好まし く ίま 0. 25 πι〜1. であり、特に好ましく ίま 0. 3 πι〜1. である。上記多 環式ィ匕合物を用いることにより、前記のような薄型の複屈折フィルムを作製できる。か かる厚みの複屈折フィルムを、例えば、液晶パネルの光学部材として用いることにより 、液晶表示装置の薄型化に貢献できる。
[0024] < 2.多環式化合物》
本発明に用いられる多環式ィ匕合物は、 COOM基を含むものであれば、任意の 適切な多環式ィ匕合物が用いられ得る。上記多環式化合物は、好ましくは、溶液状態 で液晶相を呈するものである(すなわち、リオトロピック液晶)。上記液晶相は配向性 に優れるという点で、好ましくは、ネマチック液晶相である。
[0025] 上記複屈折フィルムは、好ましくは、多環式化合物として、下記一般式 (I)で表され るァセナフト[1, 2—b]キノキサリン誘導体を含む。式 (I)中、 Mは対イオンを表す。

[0027] このような多環式ィ匕合物は、溶液中で、安定な液晶相を形成することができる。該 多環式ィ匕合物を含む溶液からのソルベントキャスティング法によって、高 、厚み方向 の複屈折率を有し、可視光の領域で吸収がないか又は小さい、透明な複屈折フィル ムを作製することができる。
[0028] 上記一般式 (I)中、 Mは、対イオンである。該 Mは、好ましくは、水素原子、アルカリ 金属原子、アルカリ土類金属原子、金属イオン、又は置換若しくは無置換のアンモ- ゥムイオンである。上記金属イオンとしては、例えば、 Ni2+、 Fe3+、 Cu2+、 Ag+、 Zn2 +、 Al3+、 Pd2+、 Cd2+、 Sn2+、 Co2+、 Mn2+、 Ce3+等があげられる。例えば、本発明 の複屈折フィルムが、上記多環式化合物と水とを含む水溶液から形成される場合、 上記 Mは、当初、水への溶解性を向上させる基を選択しておき、成膜後は、フィルム の耐水性を高めるために、水に不溶性又は難溶性の基に置換することもできる。 上記一般式 (I)で表されるァセナフト[1, 2— b]キノキサリン誘導体は、下記反応式 (a)のように、ベンゼン 1, 2—ジァミンのカルボキシ基誘導体と、ァセナフテンキノ ンとを縮合重合させて得ることができる。
[0030] < 3.複屈折フィルムの諸物性》
上記複屈折フィルムの波長 590nmにおける透過率は、好ましくは 85%以上であり 、さらに好ましくは 90%以上である。
[0031] 上記複屈折フィルムの Rth [590]は、屈折率楕円体が nz>nx=nyの関係を満足 する範囲で、適切な値に設定され得る。上記複屈折フィルムの波長 590nmにおける 厚み方向の位相差値 (Rth[590])は、—300nm〜一 10nmであり、さらに好ましく は— 270nm〜一 30nmであり、特に好ましくは— 250nm〜一 50nmである。本明細 書において、厚み方向の位相差値 (Rth [ λ ])は、 23°Cで波長 λ (nm)における厚 み方向の位相差値をいう。 Rth[ λ ]は、フィルムの厚みを d (nm)としたとき、 Rth[ λ ] = (nx-nz) X dによって求めることができる。
[0032] 上記複屈折フィルムの波長 590nmにおける面内の位相差値 (Re [590])は、 10η m未満である。本明細書において、面内の位相差値 (Re [ λ ])は、 23°Cで波長え (n m)における面内の位相差値をいう。 Re[ λ ]は、フィルムの厚みを d (nm)としたとき、 Re[ λ ] = (nx-ny) X dによって求めることができる。
[0033] 上記複屈折フィルムの波長分散値 (D)は、好ましくは、 1. 01以上であり、さらに好 ましく ίま 1. 02-1. 1であり、最も好ましく ίま、 1. 03-1. 07である。本明糸田書【こお ヽ て、波長分散値 (D)は、式; D=R(40) [450] /R (40) [550]から算出される値で ある。該 R (40) [ λ ]は、 23°Cで波長 λ nmにおいて、複屈折フィルムの遅相軸に対 して直角方向に 40° 傾斜させて測定した位相差値である。
従来の複屈折フィルムでは、このような急峻な波長依存性を示すものは得られて ヽ なかった。本発明の複屈折フィルムは、短波長の光で測定した位相差値が、長波長 の光で測定した位相差値よりも十分に大きい。このように、急峻な位相差の波長依存
性を示すことも、本発明の複屈折フィルムの特徴である。
[0034] <4.複屈折フィルムの製法》
1つの実施形態において、本発明の複屈折フィルムは、次の(1)〜(3)の工程を含 む方法により作製される。
[0035] (1) COOM基を含む、少なくとも 1種の多環式ィ匕合物(Mは、対イオンを表す)と
、溶媒とを含有し、ネマチック液晶相を示す溶液を調製する工程、
(2)少なくとも一方の表面が、親水化処理された基材を準備する工程、
(3)上記工程 (2)で準備した基材の親水化された表面に、上記工程(1)で調製し た溶液を塗工し、乾燥させる工程。
[0036] このような製法によれば、複屈折フィルムと基材とを少なくとも備える積層フィルムを 得ることができる。
[0037] 上記工程(1)で用いられる COOM基を含む多環式ィ匕合物(Mは、対イオンを表 す)は、上述したものから適宜、適切なものが選択され得る。多環式化合物としては、 好ましくは、上記一般式 (I)で表されるァセナフト[1, 2— b]キノキサリン誘導体が用 いられる。
[0038] 上記溶媒は、上記多環式化合物を溶解して、ネマチック液晶相を発現させるため に用いられる。上記溶媒は、任意の適切なものが選択され得る。上記溶媒は、例え ば、水などの無機溶剤であってもよいし、有機溶剤であってもよい。有機溶剤として は、アルコール類、ケトン類、エーテル類、エステル類、脂肪族および芳香族炭化水 素類、ハロゲン化炭化水素類、アミド類、セロソルブ類などが挙げられる。具体的には 、上記有機溶媒としては、例えば、 n—ブタノール、 2—ブタノール、シクロへキサノー ル、イソプロピルアルコール、 t ブチルアルコール、グリセリン、エチレングリコール、 アセトン、メチルェチルケトン、シクロへキサノン、シクロペンタノン、 2—ペンタノン、 2 キサノン、ジェチルエーテル、テトラヒドロフラン、ジォキサン、ァ-ソール、酢酸 ェチル、酢酸ブチル、乳酸メチル、 n キサン、ベンゼン、トルエン、キシレン、クロ 口ホルム、ジクロロメタン、ジクロロェタン、ジメチルホルムアルデヒド、ジメチルァセトァ ミド、メチルセ口ソルブ、ェチルセ口ソルブなどがあげられる。これらの溶媒は、 1種単 独で、又は 2種類以上を混合して用いることができる。
[0039] 溶媒は、特に好ましくは、水である。上記水の電気伝導率は、好ましくは 20 μ S/c m以下であり、さらに好ましくは 0. 001 μ S/cm lO S/cmであり、特に好ましく は 0. 01 μ SZcm〜5 μ SZcmである。上記水の電気伝導率の下限値は、 0 μ S/c mである。水の電気伝導率を上記の範囲にすることによって、高い厚み方向の複屈 折率を有する複屈折フィルムを得られ得る。
[0040] 上記溶液の多環性化合物の濃度は、用いる多環式ィ匕合物の種類によって、ネマチ ック液晶相を示す範囲に適宜、調製され得る。上記溶液の多環性ィ匕合物の濃度は、 好ましくは、 5重量%〜30重量%であり、さらに好ましくは、 7重量%〜20重量%であ り、特に好ましくは 9重量%〜15重量%である。溶液の濃度を上記範囲とすることに よって、該溶液は、安定な液晶状態を形成し得る。上記ネマチック液晶相は、偏光顕 微鏡で観察される液晶相の光学模様によって、確認、識別することができる。
[0041] 上記溶液は、任意の適切な添加剤をさらに含有し得る。上記添加剤としては、例え ば、界面活性剤、可塑剤、熱安定剤、光安定剤、滑剤、抗酸化剤、紫外線吸収剤、 難燃剤、着色剤、帯電防止剤、相溶化剤、架橋剤、および増粘剤などが挙げられる 。上記添加剤の添加量は、好ましくは、溶液 100重量部に対して、 0を超え 10重量部 以下である。
[0042] 上記工程 (2)における「親水化処理」とは、基材の水の接触角を低下させる処理を いう。上記親水化処理は、多環性化合物を塗工する基材表面のぬれ性、塗工性を 向上させるために行われる。上記親水化処理は、基材の 23°Cにおける水の接触角 を、処理前に比べて、好ましくは 10%以上低下させる処理であり、さらに好ましくは 1 5%〜80%低下させる処理であり、特に好ましくは 20%〜70%低下させる処理であ る。なお、この低下させる割合 (%)は、式: { (処理前の接触角-処理後の接触角) Z 処理前の接触角 } X 100により求められる。
[0043] さらに、上記親水化処理は、基材の 23°Cにおける水の接触角を、処理前に比べて 、好ましくは、 5° 以上低下させる処理であり、さらに好ましくは、 10° 〜65° 低下さ せる処理であり、特に好ましくは 20° 〜65° 低下させる処理である。
[0044] さらに、上記親水化処理は、基材の 23°Cにおける水の接触角を、好ましくは 5° 〜 60° とする処理であり、さらに好ましくは 5° 〜50° とする処理であり、特に好ましく
は 5° 〜45° とする処理である。基材の水の接触角を上記範囲とすることによって、 高い厚み方向の複屈折率を示し、且つ、厚みバラツキの小さい複屈折フィルムを得 られ得る。
[0045] さらに、上記親水化処理は、適切な方法が採用され得る。上記親水化処理としては 、例えば、乾式処理でもよぐ湿式処理でもよい。乾式処理としては、例えば、コロナ 処理、プラズマ処理、及びグロ一放電処理などの放電処理;火炎処理;オゾン処理; UVオゾン処理;紫外線処理や電子線処理などの電離活性線処理などが挙げられる 。湿式処理としては、例えば、水やアセトンなどの溶媒を用いた超音波処理;アルカリ 処理;アンカーコート処理などが挙げられる。これらの親水化処理は、単独で行っても よいし、 2つ以上を組み合わせて行ってもよい。
[0046] 好ましくは、上記親水化処理は、コロナ処理、プラズマ処理、アルカリ処理、又はァ ンカーコート処理である。力かる親水化処理であれば、高い配向性を有し、且つ、厚 みバラツキの小さい複屈折フィルムを得ることができる。上記親水化処理の条件、例 えば、処理時間や強度などは、基材の水の接触角が上記の範囲となるように、適宜、 適切に調整され得る。
[0047] 上記コロナ処理は、代表的には、コロナ放電内へ、基材を通過させることによって、 基材表面を改質する処理である。該コロナ放電は、接地された誘電体ロールと絶縁 された電極との間に高周波、高電圧を印加することにより、電極間の空気が絶縁破壊 してイオン化し発生する。上記プラズマ処理は、代表的には、低温プラズマ内へ、基 材を通過させることによって、基材表面を改質する処理である。該低温プラズマは、 低圧の不活性ガスや酸素、ハロゲンガスなど無機気体中でグロ一放電を起こすと、 気体分子の一部がイオン化して発生する。上記超音波処理は、代表的には、水や有 機溶媒中に基材を浸漬させて超音波をあてることにより、基材表面の汚染物を除去 し、基材のぬれ性を改善する処理である。上記アルカリ処理は、代表的には、塩基性 物質を水又は有機溶剤に溶解したアルカリ処理液に、基材を浸漬することによって、 基材表面を改質する処理である。上記アンカーコート処理は、代表的には、基材表 面にアンカーコート剤を塗工する処理である。
[0048] 本発明に用いられる基材は、上記多環性化合物と溶媒とを含有する溶液を、均一
に流延するために用いられる。上記基材は、任意の適切なものが選択され得る。上 記基材としては、例えば、ガラス基材、石英基板、高分子フィルム、プラスチック基板 、アルミや鉄などの金属板、セラミック基板、シリコンウェハーなどが挙げられる。上記 基材は、好ましくは、ガラス基材又は高分子フィルムである。
[0049] 上記ガラス基板としては、任意の適切なものが選択され得る。好ましくは、上記ガラ ス基板は、液晶セルに用いられるものである。液晶セルに用いられるガラス基板は、 例えば、アルカリ成分を含むソーダ石灰 (青板)ガラス、又は低アルカリ硼砂酸ガラス などが挙げられる。上記ガラス基板は、市販のものをそのまま用いてもよい。市販のガ ラス基板としては、例えば、コーユング社製のガラスコード: 1373、旭硝子 (株)製の ガラスコード: AN635、 NHテクノグラス (株)製のガラスコード: NA— 35などが挙げ られる。
[0050] 上記高分子フィルムを形成する榭脂としては、任意の適切なものが選択され得る。
好ましくは、上記高分子フィルムは熱可塑性榭脂含有する。上記熱可塑性榭脂とし ては、ポリオレフイン系榭脂、シクロォレフイン系榭脂、ポリ塩ィ匕ビ二ル系榭脂、セル口 一ス系榭脂、スチレン系榭脂、ポリメタクリル酸メチル、ポリ酢酸ビニル、ポリ塩ィ匕ビ- リデン系榭脂、ポリアミド系榭脂、ポリアセタール系榭脂、ポリカーボネート系榭脂、ポ リブチレンテレフタレート系榭脂、ポリエチレンテレフタレート系榭脂、ポリスノレホン系 榭脂、ポリエーテルスルホン系榭脂、ポリエーテルエーテルケトン系榭脂、ポリアリレ 一ト系榭脂、ポリアミドイミド系榭脂などが挙げられる。上記の熱可塑性榭脂は、単独 で、または 2種以上を組み合わせて用いられる。また、上記の熱可塑性榭脂は、任意 の適切なポリマー変性を行って力も用いることもできる。上記ポリマー変性としては、 例えば、共重合、架橋、分子末端、立体規則性などの変性が挙げられる。
[0051] 本発明に用いられる基材は、好ましくは、セルロース系榭脂を含有する高分子フィ ルムである。多環性ィ匕合物のぬれ性に優れ、高い厚み方向の複屈折率を有し、且つ 、厚みバラツキの小さ 、複屈折フィルムが得られ得る力 である。

ース混合有機酸エステルである。上記セルロース有機酸エステルとしては、例えば、 セノレロースアセテート、セノレロースプロピ才ネート、セノレロースブチレート等が挙げら れる。上記セルロース混合有機酸としては、例えば、セルロースアセテートプロビオネ ート、セルロースアセテートブチレート等が挙げられる。上記セルロース系榭脂は、例 えば、特開 2001— 188128号公報 [0040]〜[0041]に記載の方法により得ること ができる。
[0053] 本発明に用いられる基材は、市販の高分子フィルムをそのまま用いることもできる。
あるいは、市販の高分子フィルムに延伸処理及び Z又は収縮処理などの 2次的加工 を施したものを用いることもできる。市販のセルロース系榭脂を含有する高分子フィル ムとしては、例えば、富士写真フィルム (株)製のフジタックシリーズ (商品名: ZRF80 S、 TD80UF、 TDY-80UL)、コ-カミノルタォプト(株)社製の商品名「KC8UX2 M」などが挙げられる。
[0054] 上記基材の厚みは、好ましくは、 20 μ m〜100 μ mである、基材の厚みを上記の 範囲とすることによって、基材のハンドリング性や塗工性が優れる。
[0055] 上記工程(3)における、溶液の塗工速度は、好ましくは 50mmZ秒以上であり、さ らに好ましくは lOOmmZ秒以上である。塗工速度を上記の範囲とすることによって、 高い厚み方向の複屈折率を有し、且つ、厚みバラツキの小さい複屈折フィルムが得 られ得る。
[0056] 上記溶液を基材の表面に塗工する方法としては、適宜、適切なコータを用いた塗 ェ方式が採用され得る。上記コータとしては、例えば、リバースロールコータ、正回転 ローノレコータ、グラビアローノレコータ、ナイフコータ、ロッドコータ、スロットダイコータ、 スロットオリフィスコータ、カーテンコータ、フアウンテンコータ、エアドクタコータ、キス コータ、ディップコータ、ビードコータ、ブレードコータ、キャストコータ、スプレーコータ 、スピンコータ、押出コータ、ホットメルトコータなどが挙げられる。上記コータは、好ま しくは、リノく一スローノレコータ、正回転ローノレコータ、グラビアコータ、ロッドコータ、ス ロットダイコータ、スロットオリフィスコータ、カーテンコータ、及びフアウンテンコータで ある。
[0057] 上記溶液を乾燥させる方法は、適宜、適切な方法が採用され得る。乾燥方法は、
例えば、熱風又は冷風が循環する空気循環式恒温オーブン、マイクロ波もしくは遠 赤外線などを利用したヒーター、温度調節用に加熱されたロール、ヒートパイプロー ル、又は金属ベルトなどの乾燥手段が挙げられる。
[0058] 上記溶液を乾燥させる温度は、上記溶液の等方相転移温度以下であり、低温から 高温へ徐々に昇温して乾燥させることが好ましい。上記乾燥温度は、好ましくは 10°C 〜80°Cであり、さらに好ましくは 20°C〜60°Cである。上記の温度範囲であれば厚み ノ ラツキの小さい複屈折フィルムを得ることができる。
[0059] 上記溶液を乾燥させる時間は、乾燥温度や溶媒の種類によって、適宜、選択され 得る。厚みのバラツキの小さい複屈折フィルムを得るためには、乾燥時間は、例えば 、 1分〜 30分であり、好ましくは 1分〜 10分である。溶液を乾燥することにより、基材 の表面に、複屈折フィルムが積層された、積層体 (積層フィルム)が得られる。
[0060] 本発明の複屈折フィルムの製造方法は、好ましくは、上記工程(1)〜(3)の後に、 工程 (4)をさらに含む:
(4)上記工程(3)で得られた複屈折フィルムに、アルミニウム塩、バリウム塩、鉛塩、 クロム塩、ストロンチウム塩、及び分子内に 2個以上のアミノ基を有する化合物からな る群カゝら選択される少なくとも 1種の化合物塩を含む溶液を接触させる工程。
[0061] 本発明において、上記工程 (4)は、得られる複屈折フィルムを、水に対して、不溶 化又は難溶ィ匕させるために行われる。上記化合物塩としては、例えば、塩化アルミ- ゥム、塩化バリウム、塩化鉛、塩ィ匕クロム、塩化ストロンチウム、 4, 4,一テトラメチルジ アミノフヱニルメタン塩酸塩、 2, 2'ージピリジル塩酸塩、 4, 4'ージピリジル塩酸塩、 メラミン塩酸塩、テトラアミノビリミジン塩酸塩などが挙げられる。このような化合物であ れば、耐水性に優れた複屈折フィルムが得られ得る。
[0062] 上記の化合物塩を含む溶液の、化合物塩の濃度は、好ましくは 3重量%〜40重量 %であり、特に好ましくは、 5重量%〜30重量%である。複屈折フィルムを上記範囲 の濃度の化合物塩を含む溶液と接触させることによって、耐久性に優れたものが得ら れ得る。
[0063] 上記工程 (3)で得られた複屈折フィルムを、上記化合物を含む溶液と接触させる方 法としては、任意の方法を採用できる。該方法としては、例えば、(i)当該複屈折フィ
ルムの表面に上記化合物塩を含む溶液を塗工する方法、 (ii)当該複屈折フィルムを 上記化合物塩を含む溶液に浸漬する方法などが挙げられる。これらの方法が採用さ れる場合、得られた複屈折フィルムは、水又は任意の溶剤で残存溶液 (化合物塩を 含む溶液)を洗浄することが好ましい。さらにこれを乾燥することで、基材と複屈折フィ ルムとの界面の密着性に優れた積層体が得られ得る。
[0064] < 5.複屈折フィルムの用途》
本発明の複屈折フィルムの用途は、特に制限はないが、代表的には、液晶表示装 置の λ Ζ4板、 λ Ζ2板、視野角拡大フィルム、フラットパネルディスプレイ用反射防 止フィルムなどが挙げられる。 1つの実施形態においては、上記複屈折フィルムは、 偏光子と積層して、偏光板として用いてもよい。以下、この偏光板について説明する
[0065] « 6.本発明の偏光板〉〉
本発明の偏光板は、上記複屈折フィルムと偏光子とを少なくとも備える。上記偏光 板は、複屈折フィルムと基材とを少なくとも備える積層フィルムを含んで 、てもよ 、し、 他の複屈折フィルムや、任意の保護層を含んでいてもよい。実用的には、上記偏光 板の、構成部材の間には、任意の適切な接着層が設けられ、偏光子と各構成部材と が粘着される。
[0066] 上記偏光子としては、自然光又は偏光を直線偏光に変換するものであれば、適切 なものが採用され得る。上記偏光子は、好ましくは、ヨウ素又は二色性染料を含有す るポリビュルアルコール系榭脂を主成分とする延伸フィルムである。上記偏光子の厚 みは、通常、 5 μ m〜50 μ mである。
[0067] 上記接着剤は、隣り合う部材の面と面とを接合し、実用上十分な接着力と接着時間 で、一体ィ匕させるのであれば、任意の適切なものが選択され得る。上記接着層を形 成する材料としては、例えば、接着剤、粘着剤、アンカーコート剤が挙げられる。上記 接着層は、被着体の表面にアンカーコート剤層が形成され、その上に接着剤層また は粘着剤層が形成されたような多層構造であってもよい。或いは、上記接着層は、肉 眼的に認知できないような薄い層(ヘアーラインともいう)であってもよい。上記偏光板 にお 、て、偏光子の一方の側に配置された接着層と他方の側に配置された接着層
は、それぞれ同一であってもよいし、異なっていてもよい。
実施例
[0068] 本発明について、実施例および比較例を用いて更に説明する。なお、本発明は、 これらの実施例のみに限定されるものではない。なお、実施例で用いた各分析方法 は、以下の通りである。
(1)厚みの測定方法:
厚みが 10 m未満の場合、薄膜用分光光度計 [大塚電子 (株)製 製品名「瞬間マ ルチ測定システム MCPD— 2000」]を用いて測定した。厚みが 10 m以上の場合 、アンリツ製デジタルマイクロメーター「KC— 351C型」を使用して測定した。
(2)透過率 (T[590] )、厚み方向の複屈折率( Δ η[590] )、位相差値 (Re [え]、 Rt h [え])、波長分散値 (D) (R (40) [450] /R (40) [550])の測定方法:
王子計測機器 (株)製 商品名「KOBRA21— ADH」を用いて、 23°Cで測定した。 なお、平均屈折率は、アッベ屈折率計 [ァタゴ (株)製 製品名「DR— M4」]を用いて 測定した値を用いた。
(3)電気伝導率の測定方法:
濃度を 0. 05重量%に調製した水溶液で、溶液電導率計 [京都電子工業 (株)製、 製品名「CM— 117」]の電極を洗浄した後、電極に接続された lcm3の容器に試料 をみたして、表示された電気伝導率が一定の値を示したところを、測定値とした。
(4)水の接触角の測定方法:
固液界面解析装置 [協和界面科学 (株)製 製品名「Drop Master300」]を用い て、基材に液を滴下した後、 5秒間経過した後の接触角を測定した。測定条件は、静 的接触角測定である。水は、超純水を用い、液滴は 0. 5 1とした。それぞれの基材 につ 、て、繰り返し回数 10回の平均値を測定値とした。

くァセナフト [1, 2—b]キノキサリンー9一力ルボン酸の合成〉
500mLのジメチルホルムアルデヒドを、精製した 10gのァセナフテンキノンと 84gの 3, 4—ジァミノ安息香酸の混合物に添加した。反応物を、室温で 21時間攪拌し続け た。沈殿物をろ過して、粗組成物を得た。この粗組成物は、熱したジメチルホルムアミ
ドに溶解して、再度、ろ過し、ジメチルホルムアミド及び水で洗浄して精製した。

くァセナフト [1, 2—b]キノキサリンー9一力ルボン酸アンモ-ゥムの合成〉
下記の反応経路 (b)に示すように、上記精製したァセナフト[1, 2—b]キノキサリン —9—カルボン酸を、 2リットルの純水(電気伝導率: 1. 7 /z SZcm)に溶解し、さらに 水酸ィ匕アンモニゥムをカ卩えて、酸を水酸ィ匕アンモニゥムで中和した。得られた水溶液 は、供給タンクに入れ、 日東電工 (株)製の逆浸透膜フィルター [商品名「NTR— 74 30」]を備えた 3連平膜評価装置を用いて、精製した。次に、この精製した水溶液を、 ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、水溶液中の多環性化合物の濃度が 13. 3重量 %となるように調整した。ここで得られた水溶液を、偏光顕微鏡観察すると、 23°Cで ネマチック液晶相を示した。

[0072] [実施例 1]
厚み 80 μ mのトリアセチルセルロースを主成分とする高分子フィルム [富士写真フィ ルム (株)製 商品名「ZRF80S」 ]を、水酸ィ匕ナトリウムを溶解させた水溶液に浸漬し 、その表面にアルカリ処理 (鹼ィ匕処理ともいう)を施した。上記高分子フィルムの 23°C における水の接触角は、処理前は 64. 6° であり、処理後は 26. 5° であった。次に 、上記高分子フィルムのアルカリ処理した表面に、上記合成例 2で得られた水溶液を 、バーコ一ター [BUSCHMAN社製 商品名「mayer rot HS1. 5」]を用いて、乾 燥後の厚みが 0. 35 mとなるように塗工した。該塗工膜を、 23°Cの恒温室内で塗 ェ表面に風を吹き付けながら乾燥させた後、さらに 40°Cの空気循環式乾燥オーブン
内で 3分間乾燥させた。その結果、トリァセチルセルロースを主成分とする高分子フィ ルムの表面に、屈折率楕円体が nz>nx=nyの関係を示す複屈折フィルム Aを形成 した。この複屈折フィルム Aの特性を表 1に示す。

上記合成例 2で得られた水溶液を、乾燥後の厚みが 0. 45 mとなるように塗工し たこと以外は、実施例 1と同様の方法で、 nz>nx=nyの関係を示す複屈折フィルム Bを得た。この複屈折フィルム Bの特性を表 1に示した。

上記合成例 2で得られた水溶液を、乾燥後の厚みが 0. 61 mとなるように塗工し たこと以外は、実施例 1と同様の方法で、 nz>nx=nyの関係を示す複屈折フィルム Cを得た。この複屈折フィルム Cの特性を表 1に示した。

上記合成例 2で得られた水溶液を、乾燥後の厚みが 0. 85 mとなるように塗工し たこと以外は、実施例 1と同様の方法で、 nz>nx=nyの関係を示す複屈折フィルム Dを得た。この複屈折フィルム Dの特性を表 1に示した。

上記合成例 2で得られた水溶液を、乾燥後の厚みが 1. 5 mとなるように塗工した こと以外は、実施例 1と同様の方法で、 nz>nx=nyの関係を示す複屈折フィルムE を得た。この複屈折フィルム Eの特性を表 1に示した。

実施例 1〜実施例 5で示すように、 COOM基を含む、少なくとも多環式化合物と 、溶媒とを含む溶液を基材表面に塗工することによって、屈折率楕円体が nz>nx= nyの関係を満足し、且つ、高い厚み方向の複屈折率を示す複屈折フィルムを得るこ とができた。これらの複屈折フィルムは、従来の複屈折フィルムに比べて、薄い厚み で、所定の位相差値を得ることができる。
産業上の利用可能性
[0080] 以上のように、本発明の複屈折フィルムは、屈折率楕円体が nz>nx=nyの関係を 満足し、高い厚み方向の複屈折率を示すため、例えば、液晶表示装置に用いる場 合には、表示特性の向上と、薄型化に大きく貢献することができる。
Claims
[1] 屈折率楕円体が nz >nx=nyの関係を満足し、 COOM基を含む、少なくとも 1種 の多環式化合物を含有してなる、複屈折フィルム。
(上記 Mは、対イオンを表す。 )
[2] 前記複屈折フィルムの波長 590nmにおける厚み方向の複屈折率( Δ η[590] )が
、 一 0. 05以下である、請求項 1に記載の複屈折フィルム。
[3] 前記複屈折フィルムの厚み力 0. 2 μ m〜2. 0 μ mである、請求項 1又は 2に記載 の複屈折フィルム。
[4] 前記多環式化合物が、下記一般式 (I)で表されるァセナフト[ 1 , 2— b]キノキサリン 誘導体を含む、請求項 1から 3のいずれかに記載の複屈折フィルム。
(式 (I)中、 Mは対イオンを表す。 )

[5] 前記複屈折フィルムの波長 590nmにおける厚み方向の位相差値 (Rth [590] )が 、 一 300nm〜一 10nmである、請求項 1から 4のいずれかに記載の複屈折フィルム。
[6] 請求項 1から 5のいずれかに記載の複屈折フィルムと基材とを少なくとも備える、積 層フィルム。
[7] 次の(1)〜(3)の工程を含む、複屈折フィルムの製造方法:
( 1) COOM基を含む、少なくとも 1種の多環式ィ匕合物(Mは、対イオンを表す)と、 溶媒とを含有し、ネマチック液晶相を示す溶液を調製する工程、
(2)少なくとも一方の表面が親水性処理された基材を準備する工程、
(3)上記工程 (2)で準備した基材の親水性処理された表面に、上記工程(1)で調製
した溶液を塗工し、乾燥させる工程。
[8] 前記親水化処理は、コロナ処理、プラズマ処理、アルカリ処理、又はアンカーコート 処理である、請求項 7に記載の複屈折フィルムの製造方法。
[9] 前記基材が、ガラス基板又は高分子フィルムである、請求項 7又は 8に記載の複屈 折フィルムの製造方法。
[10] 請求項 1から 5のいずれかに記載の複屈折フィルムと、偏光子とを少なくとも備える 、偏光板。
