Abstract

A dispenser (10) comprises a container (12), a weighted base (14), four support members (16) and a valve comprising a float (18) and a plug (20). An outlet opening is defined centrally in the floor (26) of the container, through which a dosing liquid in the container can be discharged into a cistern. When the water in the cistern is above a predetermined upper water level the float (18) keeps the plug (20) lodged in the outlet opening, thereby closing off the outlet opening. When the water in the cistern falls below the upper water level but is still above a predetermined lower water level (as the toilet is being flushed) the float (18) drops and the plug (20) is dislodged from the outlet opening allowing dosing liquid to be discharged into the cistern. As the cistern empties, the float (18) drops and the plug (20) becomes lodged in the outlet opening again, thus closing off the outlet opening.

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on January 7, 2008 (07.01.2008)
1. A dispenser which can be located in a toilet cistern for dispensing a dosing liquid into the toilet cistern, the dispenser including:
a refillable container for holding the dosing liquid, the container having an outlet opening through which the dosing liquid can be discharged into the toilet cistern;
support means for supporting the container at an elevated position in the cistern, the support means including a weighted base that is spaced from and disposed operatively below the container and that is locatable on the bottom of the cistern; and
a valve which includes a valve member which is displaceable between a closed condition for closing off the outlet opening to prevent dosing liquid from being discharged from the container into the cistern and an open condition which allows the dosing liquid to be discharged into the cistern, and a float that is operable to displace the valve member into its closed condition when the water level in the cistern is at a predetermined control level and into its open condition when the water in the cistern is below said control level.
2. The dispenser as claimed in claim 1, wherein the valve member is configured to be displaceable between said closed and open conditions and a second closed condition when the water level is at a predetermined second control level, which is below the first control level.
3. The dispenser as claimed in claim 2, wherein the valve member is in the form of a plug having a first plug formation and a second plug formation and a connecting portion connecting and extending between the first and second 11
plug formations, the connecting portion being sufficiently narrow to be received in the outlet opening of the container in a configuration wherein the first plug formation closes off the outlet opening from an underside of the outlet opening in said closed condition of the valve member and the second plug formation closes off the outlet opening from an upper side of the outlet opening in the second closed condition of the valve member.
4. The dispenser as claimed in claim 3, wherein the second plug formation includes a ram formation which is receivable in the outlet opening to push dosing liquid through the outlet opening and into the toilet cistern as the plug is displaced from the closed condition of the valve member to the second closed condition of the valve member.
5. The dispenser as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the outlet opening is dimensioned and configured to allow the dosing liquid to be discharged from the container at a predetermined flow rate when the outlet opening is open.
6. The dispenser as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the support includes support members which extend between the weighted base and the container.
7. The dispenser as claimed in claim 6, wherein the support members are operable to guide the float as it rises and falls with the level of the water in the cistern.
8. The dispenser as claimed in claim 1, substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in any of the drawings.
