Abstract

Disclosed is a slotted core for a fiber optic cable having a plurality of slots for carrying a plurality of optical fibers. The slotted core has a plurality of first slots having a first slot depth and a plurality of second slots having a second slot depth. The second slot depth is greater than the first slot depth. In one embodiment, each of the first and second plurality of slots is capable of retaining at least one optical fiber and the second plurality of slots is alternately disposed between the first slots. Additionally, the slotted core may further include a cable jacket or other cable components, thereby forming a fiber optic cable having an optical fiber packing density of about 1.8 optical fiber/mm2 or greater.
