PURPOSE:To stabilize the transmission characteristics, mechanical characteristics, and long-period reliability of an optical cable by specifying the relation among the size of grooves cut in a slot main body, the size of a tape fiber, and the number of stored sheets. CONSTITUTION:The width Ws of the grooves 2 in the slot main body 5 is within a range of Wf+0.1<Ws<=WfX1.3(mm) for the width Wf of the tape fiber 1 and the depth D of the grooves 2 is within a range of nt+0.2<=D<nt+0.35Wf(mm) for the width Wf of the tape fiber 1. Thus the width and depth of the grooves in the slot main body 5 are prescribed within the optimum ranges corresponding to the width, thickness, and number of stored sheets of tape fibers to obtain an optical cable of the stablest structure in terms of the transmission characteristics, mechanical characteristics, and long-period reliability of the optical fiber.
