  • IMSI3 has been allocated a service profile 3 in HLR and belongs to a number series which only is allowed in the UMTS-network.

  • Service profile 2 and service profile 3 are configured so that only incoming calls are allowed, to make it possible for the user to receive calls from the other networks. If the user shall utilize packet data transmission with best possible quality, then service profile 2 is configured with packet data transmission. Service profile 1 and service profile 3 are configured without packet data transmission.
  • the user establishes connection by that IMSI which has wanted service profile. In the illustrated embodiment the user who wants to utilize the speech service, that is, to make a call, consequently establishes connection with HLR by IMSH .
  • the operator can debit the user according to which IMSI that is used. In this way the operator can direct the user by price information which network that shall be utilized to achieve a wanted allocation of load between the networks.
  • the operator also can create types of subscriptions by static combinations of IMSI and service profiles.
  • One can, for instance, create a subscription which includes speech via preferably the GSM-network, packet data transmission via preferably GPRS, and video communication via UMTS. In this way the operator can direct utilization of the networks via the price information for each type of subscription.
  • Fig. 2 shows an embodiment of how an operator of a plurality of PLMN uses the present invention.
  • the operator configures a UICC-card in order to sell to a user of a mobile unit.
  • the UICC-card includes, according to the illustrated embodiment in Fig. 1 , three subscriptions.
  • Each subscription constitutes a service profile which also functions in one or more networks and which is utilized one at a time.
  • An IMSI-number is associated with each subscription (service profile).
  • the operator connects the IMSI-number to a certain service profile in HLR, which IMSI-number is utilized to control which network that is used.
  • the service profile specifies the rules for which networks and which services in these networks that IMSI can use. Consequently each IMSI-number is by the operator allocated a specific service profile in which services shall be indicated which shall be realized in PLMN which the IMSI-number indicates.
  • the service profiles are configured, step 32, according to services which are determined by the operator as a fixed subscription.
  • the service profiles are stored in the operator's HLR.
  • HLR is a common database for all networks where the user's service profile, authorization information, AUC, and identification number (IMSI) are, that is, a common HLR for all the networks.
  • the UlCC-card then is allocated those IMSI-numbers which have been configured as subscriptions, service profiles, step 34. In another embodiment the order is the reverse, that is, the card is first allocated IMSI-numbers.
  • All networks must be able to handle the information which exists on UlCC, that is, identification number (IMSI) and authorization information which the terminal transmits when the terminal establishes connection to current network.

  • Each network must be able to reject or accept a call from a terminal depending on which IMSI-number the terminal transmits.
  • the different IMSI-numbers belong to different number series. For instance, one number series is only allowed in a specific PLMN, another number series is only allowed in another PLMN, and one number series is allowed in a plurality of PLMNs. These number series are determined by the operator.
  • the IMSI-numbers which are allocated to a UICC constitute the possibility to establish connection with different PLMN. Depending on which number series that the terminal transmits belongs to, the call shall be rejected or accepted. For existing systems such as GSM and WCDMA this is made in MSC.
  • a user with a dual-mode mobile unit registers himself/herself at an operator of a number of mobile networks, PLMN.
  • the mobile unit is allocated a UICC with USIM- and SIM-applications, which UICC has been allocated a number of IMSI-numbers from the operator. Each IMSI-number has one by the operator allocated service profile.
  • the service profiles in HLR are configured according to where the services shall be realized. To the user these service profiles are presented as subscriptions which can be selected at start of terminal, step 44. The user selects subscription by pressing a PIN-code.
  • a selection of subscription means to the user that the user has selected service profile, utilization of network, and price list.
  • the user can, at start of terminal, be informed about cost, performance or the like for different subscriptions, or more unsophisticated; the user can be asked about which subscription the user wants to use, for instance subscription with the price aspect, the security aspect, or the accessibility aspect as main focus.
  • the user then can select a subscription at a certain cost which provides a priority order which is entirely based on lowest possible price, which means that all services which are possible to execute in the different PLMNs are selected on basis of price.
  • Another example is that the user knows that the user shall have a call at her/his home, then the user can select a subscription where mobility to other networks is not possible but the price of the speech service is very low, or if the user knows that high data speed is important, the user can select a subscription at which the UMTS-network is utilized to highest possible degree, however at an increased price. Determination of service profile, subscription, is made at start of terminal in the above specified embodiment, but can in another embodiment be made in terminal menus.
  • step 46 User of mobile unit which includes a UICC registered at an operator selects a service after the user has selected subscription, step 46. Based on which service the user wants to utilize, connection of the mobile unit is established by that IMSI-number which has a service profile which includes this service, step 48, at which the service is realized in the PLMN which is indicated in the service profile. Based on which IMSI-number the user is using, the operator debits the user. For instance, an IMSI-number which via its service profile indicates a priority of high quality has higher charge than an IMSI- number which via its service profile indicates a priority of price, step 50.
  • Fig. 4 one embodiment of the invention is shown in which a tri-mode telephone is used towards an operator of three PLMN.
  • the operator allocates service profiles to different IMSI-numbers.
  • Fig. 5 is broadly shown different service profiles which are connected to discrete IMSI-numbers.

  • the mobile consequently has been allocated 6 IMSI-numbers, at which IMSM belongs to a number series which is only allowed in PLMN1 ;
  • IMSI2 belongs to a number series which is only allowed in PLMNIII;
  • IMSI3 belongs to a number series which is only allowed in PLMNII, and IMSI4-6 belongs to a number series which is allowed in all PLMNs. These number series are determined by the operator.
  • the user in the illustrated example selects one of the 6 subscriptions, for instance speech (low price GSM), data (low price GPRS), TV (3G), speech (permanent connection), data (permanent connection), TV&Data (deLUX).
  • the selection can be confirmed by PIN-code which either can be the same for the different subscriptions, or unique for the separate subscriptions.
  • the user of the tri-mode mobile which is using the system shown in Fig. 4 and who wants to use Internet, can select between a number of service profiles. The user is interested in having possibility to surf at lowest price but also with possibility to be connected according as he/she is moving.
  • IMSI 4 provides a subscription called data (roaming at low price), broadly shown in Fig. 5 as service profile 4.
  • IMSI 4 which is associated with this service profile, belongs to a number series which is allowed in all the networks and favors to establish connection to PLMNII when also PLMNIII is accessible. This also results in that the mobile can roam between the two networks. The user selects the subscription and establishes connection to HLR by IMSI4.
  • the operator can direct users to use a specific network by price to make it possible to execute distribution of load between the networks, for instance by providing subscriptions with already set services to certain profiles and IMSIs.
  • One also can direct selection of service in specific network by price information which is presented to the user.
  • the operator can control the selection of network based on load of the different networks and configure service profiles based on the load.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un dispositif (20) comprenant une unité de mémoire configurée pour stocker des informations associées à une unité mobile (10), lesquelles informations comprennent une pluralité de numéros d'identification alloués à un profil de service respectif indiquant les services pour ladite unité mobile et caractérisé en ce que chaque numéro d'identification appartient à une série de numéros spécifique qui, en tant que telle, indique quel réseau mobile, PLMN, doit être utilisé lors de l'utilisation d'un service sélectionné.
