Abstract
The vice device for adjusting the inclination of the shock absorbers in the Mac Pherson systems mounted on motor vehicles according to the present invention comprises a vice that makes the shock absorber linked thereto perform a rotation which, having the upper part of a spring (M) as the centre thereof, allows to obtain the perfect perpendicularity of the same during compression.
Description
A VICE DEVICE FOR ADJUSTING THE INCLINATION OF THE SHOCK ABSORBERS DURING ASSEMBLY
The present invention concerns a vice device for adjusting the inclination of the shock absorbers in the Mac Pherson systems mounted on motor vehicles.
It is known that the shock absorbers mounted on common motor vehicles mainly consist of a spring M containing a hydraulic or mechanic piston PT, usually slantwise with respect to the axis of said spring, as for space reasons it is often mounted concentrically to the upper spring carrying dish PS but eccentrically with respect to the lower spring carrying dish PI.
Such misalignment makes the disassembling of modern shock absorbers extremely difficult, due to the complex and dangerous procedures for the compression of said spring M, which however are indispensable for separating piston PT from the upper spring carrying dish PS in case of replacement or repair.
In fact, the means used for said purpose provide blocking vices which tend to impress to said pistons PT a perfectly vertical position, thus determining an inclination of said springs M which it is difficult to manage in safety conditions by the presses for their compression.
The different methods that have been used until now for the optimal positioning of said elements have proved to be too complex in their use and, in any case, never completely safe.
The vice device for adjusting the inclination of the shock absorbers during assembly according to the present invention completely and brilliantly solves above mentioned problems by means of a blocking vice that makes to shock absorber connected thereto perform a rotation which, having the upper part of said spring M as its centre, allows to obtain the perfect perpendicularity thereof during compression.
The vice device for adjusting the inclination of the shock absorbers during assembly according to the present invention will be described more in detail hereinbelow relating to the enclosed drawings, showing an embodiment thereof, wherein figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively show:
- a vertical section of a shock absorber for motor vehicles;
- a top view of vices 1 ;
- a square section and a lateral view.
The vice device for adjusting the inclination of the shock absorbers during assembly according to the present invention, consists of a vice 1 with jaws 2, and the clamping thereof is allowed by a special screw 3, applied by means of pins F to a couple of steel plates 4 mounted, by means of pins B-D passing through levers 5-5', onto a
special connecting rod 6 united to the pneumatic cylinder for the vertical movement of the system.
Said pins B-D unite corresponding levers 5-5' to the connecting rod 6, while pins C-A allow their connection to said plates 4.
A shaft 7, united to said pin A5 transmits to the same, through lever 8 of screw 9, the movement generated by the action of a special handwheel 10, thus determining the consequent movement, on respective pins B-D, of said levers 5-5' on an arch which has the same extension but opposite direction and thus is able to lower the front end and at the same time raise the back end of said plates 4 connected thereto, inducing the same to a contemporary translation and rotation movement.
The length of said levers 5-5' as well as the position of corresponding pins B-D are calculated in such a way that said vice 1 may induce the shock absorber tightened between jaws 2 to a rotation which is controlled by said handwheel 10, has the upper part of said spring M as its central part ad allows to obtain the perpendicularity necessary for its optimal compression.
Once the perpendicularity is obtained, the intake of compressed air into the pneumatic cylinder, to which said vice 1 is united by means of said connection rod 6, determines the hooking of said spring M to the hooks on top of the apparatus and the following
compression thereof, thus allowing to separate the upper spring carrying dish PS from said piston PT and consequently the replacement thereof.
The manual approach system consists of a small pneumatic pump controlled by the operator by means of a lever for introducing low pressure air into the main pneumatic cylinder. Once the hooking is performed, the compressed air valve is operated, thus causing the compression of said spring M. Taking off the air from the new shock absorber mounted, it is possible to bring the apparatus back to its start position.
