  • the active compound combinations according to the invention are suitable for the treatment of seed.
  • This phase is particularly critical, as the roots and shoots of the growing plant are particularly sensitive and already a small damage can lead to the death of the entire plant. There is therefore a particular interest in protecting the seed and the germinating plant by the use of suitable agents.
  • the present invention therefore also relates, in particular, to a method for protecting seed and germinating plants from attack by pests by treating the seed with a combination of active substances according to the invention.
  • the method according to the invention for the protection of seeds and germinating plants from the infestation of pests comprises Method in which the seed is treated at the same time with an active substance of formula I and a group 2 or 3 active substance. It also includes a method in which the seed is treated at different times with an active ingredient of formula I and a compound of group 2 or 3.

  • One of the advantages of the present invention is that due to the particular systemic properties of the active compound combinations according to the invention, the treatment of the seed with these active ingredient combinations not only protects the seed itself, but also the resulting plants after emergence from pests. In this way, the immediate treatment of the culture at the time of sowing or shortly afterwards can be omitted.
  • Another advantage consists in the synergistic increase of the insecticidal activity of the active compound combinations according to the invention over the insecticidal single active substance, which goes beyond the expected efficacy of the two individually applied active ingredients. Also advantageous is the synergistic increase in the fungicidal activity of the active compound combinations according to the invention compared with the fungicidal single active substance, which goes beyond the expected effectiveness of the individually applied active ingredient. This allows optimization of the amount of active ingredients used.

Pflanzensorten. Plant varieties. Under plant parts are all aboveground and underground parts and Organs of plants, such as shoot, leaf, flower and root are understood, with examples of leaves, needles, stems, stems, flowers, fruiting bodies, fruits and seeds and roots, tubers and rhizomes are listed. The plant parts also include crops and vegetative and generative propagation material, such as cuttings, tubers, rhizomes, offshoots and seeds.
The treatment according to the invention of the plants and plant parts with the active compound combinations takes place directly or by acting on their environment, habitat or storage space according to the usual treatment methods, e.g. by dipping, spraying, evaporating, atomizing, spreading, brushing, injecting and in propagating material, in particular in seeds, further by single or multilayer coating.
In particular, the active compound combinations according to the invention are suitable for the treatment of seed. Preference is given to mention the combinations according to the invention mentioned above as being preferred or particularly preferred. Thus, a large part of the damage caused by pests crops already by the infestation of the seed during storage and after the introduction of the seed into the soil and during and immediately after the germination of the plants. This phase is particularly critical, as the roots and shoots of the growing plant are particularly sensitive and already a small damage can lead to the death of the entire plant. There is therefore a particular interest in protecting the seed and the germinating plant by the use of suitable agents.
The control of pests by the treatment of the seed of plants has long been known and is the subject of constant improvement. Nevertheless, there are a number of problems in the treatment of seeds that can not always be satisfactorily resolved. Thus, it is desirable to develop methods of protecting the seed and the germinating plant, which eliminate the need for additional crop protection after sowing or after emergence of the plants. It is also desirable to optimize the amount of active ingredient used in such a way that the seed and the germinating plant are best protected against attack by pests, but without damaging the plant itself by the active ingredient used. In particular, methods for treating seed should also include the intrinsic insecticidal properties of transgenic plants in order to achieve optimum protection of the seed and also of the germinating plant with a minimum of pesticides.
The present invention therefore also relates, in particular, to a method for protecting seed and germinating plants from attack by pests by treating the seed with a combination of active substances according to the invention. The method according to the invention for the protection of seeds and germinating plants from the infestation of pests comprises Method in which the seed is treated at the same time with an active substance of formula I and a group 2 or 3 active substance. It also includes a method in which the seed is treated at different times with an active ingredient of formula I and a compound of group 2 or 3. The invention also relates to the use of the active ingredient combinations according to the invention for the treatment of seed for the protection of the seed and the resulting plant from pests. Furthermore, the invention relates to seed which has been treated for protection against pests with a combination of active substances according to the invention. The invention also relates to seed which has been treated at the same time with an active compound of the formula I and an active compound from the group 2 or 3. The invention further relates to seed which has been treated at different times with an active compound of the formula I and an active compound from the group 2 or 3. In the case of seed which has been treated at different times with an active substance of the formula I and an active compound from the group 2 or 3, the individual active substances of the agent according to the invention may be contained in the seed in different layers. In this case, the layers which contain an active compound of the formula I and an active compound from the group 2 or 3 may optionally be separated by an intermediate layer. The invention also relates to seed in which an active compound of the formula I and an active compound from the group 2 or 3 are applied as a component of a coating or as a further layer or further layers in addition to a coating.
One of the advantages of the present invention is that due to the particular systemic properties of the active compound combinations according to the invention, the treatment of the seed with these active ingredient combinations not only protects the seed itself, but also the resulting plants after emergence from pests. In this way, the immediate treatment of the culture at the time of sowing or shortly afterwards can be omitted.
Another advantage consists in the synergistic increase of the insecticidal activity of the active compound combinations according to the invention over the insecticidal single active substance, which goes beyond the expected efficacy of the two individually applied active ingredients. Also advantageous is the synergistic increase in the fungicidal activity of the active compound combinations according to the invention compared with the fungicidal single active substance, which goes beyond the expected effectiveness of the individually applied active ingredient. This allows optimization of the amount of active ingredients used.
Likewise, it is to be regarded as advantageous that the active compound combinations according to the invention can be used in particular also in transgenic seed, wherein the plants resulting from this seed are capable of expressing a protein directed against pests. By treating such seeds with the active compound combinations according to the invention, certain pests can already by the expression of eg insecticidal protein are controlled, and are additionally protected by the active compound combinations according to the invention from damage.

The active compound combinations according to the invention are likewise suitable for the treatment of the seed of fruit plants and vegetables as already mentioned above. Of particular importance is the treatment of the seeds of maize, soya, cotton, wheat and canola or rapeseed.
As already mentioned above, the treatment of transgenic seed with a combination of active substances according to the invention is of particular importance. These are the seeds of plants, which as a rule contain at least one heterologous gene which controls the expression of a polypeptide with in particular insecticidal properties. The heterologous genes in transgenic seed can come from microorganisms such as Bacillus, Rhizobium, Pseudomonas, Serratia, Trichoderma, Clavibacter, Glomus or Gliocladium. The present invention is particularly useful for the treatment of transgenic seed containing at least one heterologous gene derived from Bacillus sp. and whose gene product shows activity against corn borer and / or corn rootworm. Most preferably, this is a heterologous gene derived from Bacillus thuringiensis.
In the context of the present invention, the active ingredient combination according to the invention is applied to the seed alone or in a suitable formulation. Preferably, the seed is treated in a condition that is so stable that no damage occurs during the treatment. In general, the treatment of the seed can be done at any time between harvesting and sowing. Usually, seed is used which has been separated from the plant and freed from flasks, shells, stems, hull, wool or pulp.
In general, when treating the seed, care must be taken that the amount of the active ingredient combination and / or other additives applied to the seed is chosen so that germination of the seed is not impaired or the resulting plant is not damaged. This is especially important for active ingredients, which can show phytotoxic effects at certain application rates.

As already mentioned above, according to the invention all plants and their parts can be treated. In a preferred embodiment, wild-type or plant species obtained by conventional biological breeding methods, such as crossing or protoplast fusion, and plant cultivars and their parts are treated. In a further preferred embodiment, transgenic plants and plant cultivars obtained by genetic engineering, if appropriate in combination with conventional methods (Genetically Modified Organisms), and parts thereof are treated. The terms "parts" or "parts of plants" or "plant parts" have been explained above.
It is particularly preferred according to the invention to treat plants of the respective commercially available or in use plant cultivars. Plant varieties are understood as meaning plants having new traits which have been bred by conventional breeding, by mutagenesis or by recombinant DNA techniques. These can be varieties, biotypes and genotypes.
Depending on the plant species or plant cultivars, their location and growth conditions (soils, climate, vegetation period, diet) can also by the treatment according to the invention superadditive ("synergistic") effects occur. Thus, for example, reduced application rates and / or extensions of the spectrum of action and / or an increase in the effect of the substances and agents used according to the invention, better plant growth, increased tolerance to high or low temperatures, increased tolerance to drought or to water or soil salt content, increased flowering power facilitated harvest, acceleration of ripeness, higher crop yields, higher quality and / or higher nutritional value of the harvested products, higher shelf life and / or machinability of harvested products that go beyond the actual expected effects.
The preferred plants or plant varieties to be treated according to the invention to be treated include all plants which, as a result of the genetic engineering modification, obtained genetic material which gives these plants particularly advantageous valuable properties ("traits"). Examples of such properties are better plant growth, increased tolerance to high or low temperatures, increased tolerance to dryness or to bottoms salt, increased flowering, easier harvesting, acceleration of ripeness, higher crop yields, higher quality and / or higher nutritional value of the harvested products , higher shelf life and / or workability of the harvested products. Further and particularly emphasized examples of such properties are an increased defense of the plants against animal and microbial pests, as against insects, mites, phytopathogenic fungi, bacteria and / or viruses as well as an increased tolerance of the plants against certain herbicidal active substances. Examples of transgenic plants are the important crops such as cereals (wheat, rice), corn, soybeans, potatoes, sugar beets, tomatoes, peas and other vegetables, cotton, tobacco, oilseed rape and fruit plants (with the fruits apples, pears, citrus fruits and Grapes), with special emphasis on maize, soya, potato, cotton, tobacco and oilseed rape. Traits that are particularly emphasized are the increased defense of the plants against insects, arachnids, nematodes and snails by toxins produced in the plants, in particular those which are produced by the genetic material from Bacillus thuringiensis (eg by the genes CryΙA (a) , CryΙA (b), CryΙA (c), CryllA, CrylllA, CryIIIB2, Cry9c Cry2Ab, Cry3Bb and CrylF and combinations thereof) in the plants (hereinafter "Bt plants"). Traits also highlight the increased resistance of plants to fungi, bacteria and viruses by systemic acquired resistance (SAR), systemin, phytoalexins, elicitors and resistance genes and correspondingly expressed proteins and toxins. Traits which are furthermore particularly emphasized are the increased tolerance of the plants to certain herbicidally active compounds, for example imidazolinones, sulfonylureas, glyphosate or phosphinotricin (eg "PAT" gene). The genes which confer the desired properties ("traits") can also be combined with one another in combinations with one another transgenic plants occur. Examples of "Bt plants" are maize varieties, cotton varieties, soybean varieties and potato varieties which are sold under the trade names YIELD GARD® (eg corn, cotton, soya), KnockOut® (eg maize), StarLink® (eg maize), Bollgard® ( Cotton), Nucotn® (cotton) and NewLeaf® (potato). Examples of herbicide-tolerant plants are maize varieties, cotton varieties and soybean varieties, which are sold under the trade names Roundup Ready® (tolerance to glyphosate eg corn, cotton, soy), Liberty Link® (tolerance to phosphinotricin, eg rapeseed), IMI® (tolerance against imidazolinone) and STS® (tolerance to sulfonylureas eg corn). As herbicide-resistant (grown on conventional herbicide tolerance) plants are also sold under the name Clearfield® varieties (eg corn) mentioned. Of course, these statements also apply to future or future marketed plant varieties with these or future developed genetic traits.

The good insecticidal and acaricidal activity of the active ingredient combinations according to the invention is evident from the examples below. While the individual active substances have weaknesses in their effect, the combinations show an effect which goes beyond a simple summation of effect. A synergistic effect is always present in insecticides and acaricides whenever the effect of the active ingredient combinations is greater than the sum of the effects of the individually applied active ingredients.
Colby, Weeds ü (1967), 20-22 wie folgt berechnet werden:The expected effect for a given combination of two drugs can be found in S.R. Colby, Weeds, (1967), 20-22 are calculated as follows:
WennIf
X den Abtötungsgrad, ausgedrückt in % der unbehandelten Kontrolle, beim Einsatz des Wirkstoffes A in einer Aufwandmenge von m g/ha oder in einer Konzentration von m ppm bedeutet,X means the degree of killing, expressed in% of the untreated control, when using the active substance A at a rate of m g / ha or in a concentration of m ppm,
Y den Abtötungsgrad, ausgedrückt in % der unbehandelten Kontrolle, beim Einsatz des Wirkstoffes B in einer Aufwandmenge von n g/ha oder in einer Konzentration von n ppm bedeutet undY means the degree of killing, expressed in% of the untreated control, when using the active ingredient B in an application rate of n g / ha or in a concentration of n ppm, and
E den Abtötungsgrad, ausgedrückt in % der unbehandelten Kontrolle, beim Einsatz derE the degree of kill, expressed in% of the untreated control, when using the
A and B in amounts of m and n g / ha or in a concentration of m and n ppm,
dann istthen
X YXY
E=X + Y- 100E = X + Y-100
If the actual insecticidal or acaricidal degree of killing is greater than calculated, the combination is over-additive in its killing, ie there is a synergistic effect. In this case, the actually observed kill rate must be greater than the expected kill rate (E) value calculated from the above formula.
