  • the reservoirs of such chemical irritants and security dyes may be stored remotely from the security fence with delivery means provided to the interior of the rails.
  • Means are provided on or adjacent the attack side of the rail for the spraying of such chemicals and/or dyes after being triggered either by impact against the security fence, or operator command or the like.
  • the triggering can be caused by proximity sensors and the triggering can be selectively isolated to portions only of the security fence.
  • an alarm system be contained within the rail for the detection of any impact against or attack upon the security fence.
  • means may be provided on or adjacent the attack side of the rail for monitoring activity on the attack side of the rail.
  • These means may be in the form of CCD devices such as used in digital cameras or small infra-red cameras or sensors. Such devices can be placed at different points along the length of each rail to increase the levels of surveillance beyond the use of traditional pole mounted cameras placed above or adjacent to the security fence. Such device will also assist in the selective triggering process of the chemical irritants or security dyes.
  • each of the rails and connectors may be Substantially waterproofed and allow for the storage of water.
  • collection means in the upper surface of the rails permits one way transfer of rain water into the interior of the rails for storage purposes.
  • curvature of such comer rail can be either outwardly towards the attack side or inwardly away from the attack side depending upon direction of change in the line of security fence. In either case, the degree of curvature is sufficient to permit each end of the curved comer rail to be connected to the adjoining straight rail. However, this is done without creating the usual approximately right angled corner intersection of lines of security fencing which leads to security weakness.
  • a security fence 1 comprising two upright posts 2 the lower ends of which are normally embedded in concrete foundations (not shown).
  • Three horizontal rails 3 extend between and through the posts 2, and are joined together by connector plates, not shown.

  • the posts 2 are made of galvanised steel section and, in the main, have the cross sectional Z shape shown in the Figure 3.
  • the section is of a generally Z-shape and integrally formed by a. main web 4, two substantially parallel but diametrically opposed flanges 5 and two diametrically opposed side wings 6, each of which extends from its corresponding flange 5.
  • the flanges 5 have holes 7 to permit the fastening of anti-climbing devices (not shown) such as electric fence barbed wire toppings to the top of the security fence 1.
  • a rectangular aperture 8 allows for the connection of two adjoining rails 3 through the post 2 so as to permit continuous intercommunication between the interiors of each of the rails 3 along the length of the security fence 1.
  • Figure 4 shows the rail 3 is comprised of a substantially U shaped channel-section 9 and removable cover plate 10. Apertures 11 are placed along the length of the rail on the attack side of the rail 3. Pales 14 (not shown) can be affixed to the rail 3 by fastenings (not shown) secured from the interior of the channel 9 (with the cover plate 10 removed) or it can be used for nozzles (not shown) which can release dyes and/or chemical irritants which project from the interior of the surface portion 9 outwards towards the attack side of the security fence 1 ,
  • cover plate 10 With the cover plate 10 removed it is a possible to lay any form of cable or tubing (not shown) inside the rails 3 and to pass such cable or tubing through the post 2 from one rail 3 into an adjoining rail 3. Once thi$ has been completed then the cover plate 10 can be reaffixed to the rail 3 so as to provide effective protection for the contents of the interior of the rail 3.
  • the security fence 1 is assembled from the posts 2, rails 3 and connectors 12 in the usual fashion. However, at the points where it is intended that the security fence 1 change its line of direction then curved rails 17 and 18 are used. As can been Seen, curved rail 17 is shown in this embodiment as outwardly curved and curved rail 18 is inwardly curved. This permits changes in the direction of the line of the security fence 1 without the Creation of corners but still permits continuous communication between the interiors of the rails 3, 17 and 18. This configuration reduces the ability of would be intruders being able to utilise corners or shape angle changes in the direction of the line of the security fence 1 to gain access to the interior of the fenced space defined by the security fence I-
  • Figure 7 shows a telescopic rail assembly 30 consisting of two slidably engaged rail members 31 and 32 which can be adjusted relative to each other so as to alter the length of the telescopic rail 30.
  • the barrier material used for the construction of a security fence (not shown) is a rigid material such as metal or board sheeting. In almost all metal security fences there is the need to insert a cut down panel of the barrier material at the end of each fence line run.
  • the telescopic rail assembly 30 it is possible to eliminate the need for cutting of barrier materials and so the protective coatings used on such barrier materials, such as galvanising and paint, are not compromised.
  • rail member 31 is over sized to allow rail member 32 which is normally sized to easily slide or telescope within rail member 31.
  • the rail members 31 and 32 once adjusted to the required length, can be riveted or fixed to form the rail assembly 30.

  • Opposed vertical rollers 81 prevent horizontal movement of the utilities and horizontal roller 82 bears the weight of the utilities and limits sagging while the utilities are being drawn through the cavity 17 along the length of the rail 3.
  • Vertical roller 81 adjacent attachment means 85 is mounted on vertical shaft 84. Bent shaft 83 carries both the other vertical roller 81 and horizontal roller 82.
  • there are many configurations of rollers which would enhance the function of the assembly 80.
  • Figures 9 and 10 show a scaffolding assembly 91 that is releasably engaged with a set of adjacent posts 2 which is used in assembling a security fence according to the present invention.
  • a vertical hanger support 20 is releasably engaged with flanges 5 and wings 6 of each post 2.
  • the frictional resistance between the support 20 and the post 2 maintains the assembly 91 in a desired position.

  • Flooring panels 21 can be provided to create a surface for workers to stand upon during the construction of the security fence 1.
  • a safety panel 22 can be attached to the support 20 to further enhance worker safety during fence construction.
  • Figures 11 and 12 show a scaffolding assembly 91 substantially identical to that shown in Figures 9 and 10 save that the support 20 has been inverted to put the assembly 91 in a high position configuration. This alternative configuration permits workers to engage in construction at a much greater height in appropriate circumstances.

Abstract
