Abstract
The invention relates to a method for detecting the presence of a pyrogen in a sample comprising the steps of subjecting said sample to a solution comprising monocytes, incubating the sample and the solution, detecting in one reaction vessel the presence of at least two endogenous pyrogens. The invention further pertains to the use of the inventive method for evaluating the safety or possible contamination of a product for use with humans or animals. Further the invention relates to a kit for performing the inventive method, wherein the kit comprises two or more anti-endogenous-pyrogen-antibodies for detecting a pyrogen or at least two nucleic acid probes or primers for detecting an mRNA of a gene encoding an endogenous pyrogen. The invention further relates in particular to an ELISA kit, more in particular to an ELISA kit comprising an anti-IL-6- antibody, anti-IL- IB-antibody, anti-TNF- α-antibody, anti-prostaglandine E2(PGE2)-antibody and/or anti-Neopterine-antibody.
