Description

A valve unit, in particular for gas Technical field
The present invention relates to a valve unit, in particular for gas, having the characteristic features set out in the preamble of the main claim. Technological background
The invention is of particular, but not exclusive, application in the particular sector of leak-tight connection systems for valve units adapted to supply combustible gas to fires or like heating appliances.
In this field, it is known, in order to connect the valve unit to the gas pipes, to provide this unit with respective female coupling members in the form of threaded cylindrical seats in the body of the valve unit. The connection system entails, for the connection of each supply and delivery pipe, the use of a respective male coupling member, otherwise known as a nipple, provided with a first threaded section which can be screwed into the threaded seat of the valve body and a second threaded section which can be screwed into a ring nut or pipe-fastener nut. A sealing gasket is normally provided between the ring nut and the nipple, although this seal may also be obtained by flaring the free end of the pipe and locking (by means of the ring nut) this end against a conical surface provided at the end of the nipple, on the side of this pipe. This leak-tight connection system is normally provided both the gas supply and delivery pipes of the valve unit and thus requires the use of a pair of nipple members for each valve unit, in addition to the fact that the connection requires the two threaded sections of each nipple to be screwed into the corresponding nuts. Disclosure of the invention
The object of the invention is to simplify the leak-tight connection system for valve units of the type described above, reducing the number of components as well as operations to ensure the leak-tight connection of the gas pipes to the valve unit, thereby reducing costs and times, while providing an equally reliable gas-tight system.
These and other objects to be set out in detail in the following description are achieved by means of a valve unit in accordance with the accompanying claims. Brief description of the drawings
The characteristic features and advantages of the invention are set out in the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment, given by way of non-limiting example, made with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view, with members detached, of a leak-tight connection system provided in a valve unit in accordance with the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a partial view in axial section of the valve unit of Fig. 1, with the members of the leak-tight sealing system assembled. Preferred embodiments of the invention
In the accompanying Figures, a valve unit of the present invention is shown overall by 1 and is adapted to be connected in a leak-tight manner to corresponding gas supply and delivery pipes shown respectively by 2 and 3.
The pipes 2 and 3 are connected to the valve unit at the location of a first and a second coupling, both shown by 4, only one of which will be described in detail below as the other is structurally identical.
Similar details of both couplings will also bear the same reference numerals for ease of description.
Each coupling 4 is of the threaded engagement type and comprises a respective male coupling member 4a made in one piece with the valve body Ia of the unit and projecting axially therefrom, as shown in detail in the Figures. In further detail, both threaded coupling members 4a have a cylindrical shape, are coaxial with respect to one another and are provided on opposite sides of the valve body Ia. Each coupling comprises, from the valve body in the direction of its free end, a first externally threaded cylindrical section 4b prolonged axially into a second section 4c with a conical surface profile tapering towards the free end of the coupling. The axial hole formed centrally in the coupling member 4a and communicating with the gas path within the valve body is shown by 5.
Each coupling member 4a is advantageously obtained in one piece with the valve body Ia by means of moulding by die-casting.
For the leak-tight connection of the pipes 2, 3 to the valve unit, the free end of each pipe is provided with a respective surface flare 2a, 3a with a conical profile able to be superimposed by form fitting on the conical surface of the section 4c of the corresponding coupling. For the leak-tight locking of the conical surfaces in contact, a respective ring nut or pipe- fastener nut 6 is provided and is keyed on the corresponding pipe and comprises an internally threaded cylindrical seat 6a whose nut may be screwed onto the corresponding threaded section 4b of the coupling 4. A respective annular seat extending axially as a prolongation of each threaded seat 6a and shaped with a conical profile is shown by 7 and is of a dimension such as to match the profile of the corresponding flare facing it, thus ensuring the gas-tight locking of the pipe on the corresponding coupling. This ensures gas-tightness both on the inner side of the flare in contact with the conical surface of the coupling 4 and on the outer side of the flare in contact with the conical surface of the ring nut.
The invention achieves the objects set out above and offers a number of advantages over known solutions. It will be appreciated in particular that the leak-tight connection system of the invention provides a simplification in comparison with known systems as it may take place directly without requiring any additional members such as a nipple or like threaded coupling for the connection of the pipe to the valve unit. The coupling member on the valve unit side may also be obtained in one piece with the valve body at the time of die-casting, offering an overall saving of moulding costs and, more generally, manufacturing costs of the valve unit.
A further advantage lies in the simplification of the operations to lock the leak-tight connection, which merely require the pipe-fastener ring nut to be screwed onto the corresponding coupling. The dismantling of the connection of each pipe to the valve body is correspondingly simple and rapid.
