Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of determining the quantity of a target nucleic acid or protein in cells of interest comprised in a biological sample characterized by a) mixing said cells of interest containing the target nucleic acid or protein, in a predetermined ratio, with control cells that contain a reference nucleic acid not present in said cells of interest, wherein the control cells do not contain the target nucleic acid, b) subjecting the mixture of said cells of interest and said control cells obtained in step a) to a cell lysis procedure according to an established protocol, and c) determining the quantity of the target nucleic acid present in said cell lysate relative to the amount of said reference nucleic acid by performing an established protocol designed to determine the amount of cellular nucleic acids. The present invention also relates to kits performing said methods according to the invention.
