Abstract

AGI strain of entomopathogenic fungus B. bassiana was isolated from cadaver of adult stage of red palm weevil Rhychophorus ferrugineus. The red palm weevil is destructive insect and it causes serious damage to date palms in Egypt. Recently, the weevil has spread widely and now is the most economically important pest of the date palm in Egypt. The biocontrol means by using entomopathogenic fungi is more needed to control such this insect. All stages of red palm weevil appeared highly susceptibility to AGI fungal strain. The fungal strain appeared highly pathogenicty, viability and sporulation compared with other 44 tested other strains of fungs B. bassiana. Genetic description of fungal strain was conducted. Field application of this fungal strain in large scale proved highly control to red palm weevil.
