Abstract

A device for fighting and preventing fires in a warehouse comprises an inert gas pipe (2) which leads inert gas under pressure to a mixer in which the inert gas is mixed with air in a predeterminable ratio to an extinguisher gas with an oxygen content that lies below a limit value at which fire is extinguished by lack of oxygen, the extinguisher gas being supplied to at least one extinguisher gas inlet (16) into the warehouse. This makes it possible to obtain a reliable fire protection system for closed spaces, such as storage containers, which dispenses with extinguishing water and can be economically operated. This fire protection system can also be designed in such a way as to make fire prevention possible. The fire protection system is particularly suitable for storage containers having a complex inner geometry, in particular storage containers with rotary racking.
