Abstract

A wheel end (A-G) for coupling a road wheel (R) to the suspension system of an automotive vehicle includes a housing (2, 56, 74, 102, 142, 194, 212) that is secured to the suspension system, a hub (4, 104, 144, 208) having a drive flange (20, 112, 156) to which the road wheel is secured and a spindle (22, 114, 158, 220) that projects from the drive flange into the housing, and a bearing (6, 106, 146, 202, 204) located between the housing and the hub spindle to enable the hub to rotate. The bearing includes outboard and inboard races (34, 36, 128, 130, 166, 168, 170, 172) and rolling elements (38, 132, 173, 238) organized in two rows, one between the outboard races and the other between the inboard races. At least one of the races is a stamping derived from bearing quality sheet stock. The housing may also be a stamping.
