Abstract

A waste outlet fitting (10) is provided for connection between a waste outlet (12) and a drain pipe. The fitting (10) includes a main tubular member (16) having an open top end, adapted to be attached to the waste outlet (12) and act as a water inlet for the fitting (10). The fitting (10) further includes a water outlet (18), located at a side wall of the main tubular member (16) and adapted to be connected to the drain pipe. The main tubular member (16) includes a dividing wall (24) arranged within the main tubular member (16). The dividing wall (24) extends along a substantial length of the main tubular member (16) and terminates with a bottom portion above a base portion (26) of the main tubular member (16). In this arrangement, a space is provided between the bottom portion and the base portion (26) of the main tubular member. The dividing wall (24) defines a water passage from the water inlet , down one side of the dividing wall (24) to the base portion (26) and then from the base portion (26) up the other side of the dividing wall (24) to the water outlet (18). Effectively, a water trap is formed in the water passage between the water inlet and the water outlet (18). Additionally, the base portion (26) is adapted to be removable from the main tubular member (16), in order to empty the water trap and provide access within the main tubular member (16) while the main tubular member (16) remains attached to the waste outlet (12).

Claims

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 26June 2007 (26.06.07)
1. A waste outlet fitting for connection between a waste outlet of a water receptacle and a drain pipe, said waste outlet filling including: a flanged waste outlet member inserted into said waste outlet, and a main tubular member having an open top end, so as to act as a water inlet for said fitting, and a water outlet; said water outlet located at a side wall of said main tubular member and adapted to be connected to said drain pipe, said main tubular member further including a dividing wall arranged within said main tubular member, said dividing wall extending along a substantial length of said main tubular member and terminating with a bottom portion above a base portion of said main tubular member, such that a space is provided between said bottom portion and the base portion of said main tubular member, said dividing wall defining a water passage from said water inlet, down one side of said dividing wall to said base portion and then from said base portion up the other side of said dividing wall to said water outlet; wherein a water trap is formed in said water passage between said water inlet and said water outlet; wherein said base portion is adapted to be removable from said main tubular member, in order to empty said water trap and provide access within said main tubular member while said main tubular member remains attached to said waste outlet; and wherein said flanged waste outlet member is releasably attached to said main tubular member by mating threaded elements so as to raise said open top end of said main tubular member into sealing contact with said water receptacle .
2. The waste outlet fitting according to claim 1, wherein said base portion includes a threaded portion arranged to mate with a complementary threaded portion on said main tubular member.
3. The waste outlet fitting according to claims 1 or 2, wherein said flanged waste outlet member includes a strainer portion for capturing solids entering said waste outlet.
4. The waste outlet fitting according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein said flanged waste outlet member is releasably attached to said main tubular member by way of a separate attachment member which engages said flanged waste outlet member and said main tubular member.
5. The waste outlet fitting according to any one of claims 1 to 4, further including adaptor means for facilitating support of attachment of said main tubular member to waste outlets of different diameters.

The waste outlet fitting according to claim 5, wherein said adaptor means include at least one support member having an abutment surface, for abutting a lower edge surrounding said waste outlet when said flanged waste outlet member is attached to said main tubular member, wherein said support member is adapted to be attached to a top side end of said main tubular member in at least a first or second orientation; wherein, in said first orientation, said abutment surface extends inwardly of said top side end of said main tubular member to support attachment of said main tubular member to a waste outlet having a diameter substantially less than that of the open top end; and, wherein, in said second orientation, said abutment surface extends outwardly of said top side end of said main tubular member to support attachment of said main tubular member to a waste outlet having a diameter substantially similar to that of the open top end.

A waste outlet fitting for connection between a waste outlet of a water receptacle and a drain pipe, said waste outlet fitting including: a main tubular member having an open top end, adapted to be attached to said waste outlet and act as a water inlet for said fitting, and a water outlet, located at a side wall of said main tubular member and adapted to be connected to said drain pipe, said main tubular member having a water trap formed within between said water inlet and said water outlet; a flanged waste outlet member adapted to be inserted into said waste outlet and suspend from an upper edge surrounding said waste outlet, wherein said flanged waste outlet member is adapted to be releasably attached to said main tubular member, thereby attaching said open top end of said main tubular member to said waste outlet; and adaptor means for facilitating support of attachment of said main tubular member to waste outlets of different diameters .

The waste outlet fitting according to claim 7, wherein said adaptor means include at least one support member having an abutment surface, for abutting a lower edge surrounding said waste outlet when said flanged waste outlet member is attached to said main tubular member, wherein said support member is adapted to be attached to a top side end of said main tubular member in at least a first or second orientation; wherein, in said first orientation, said abutment surface extends inwardly of said top side end of said main tubular member to support attachment of said main tubular member to a waste outlet having a diameter substantially less than that of the open top end; and, wherein, in said second orientation, said abutment surface extends outwardly of said top side end of said main tubular member to support attachment of said main tubular member to a waste outlet having a diameter substantially similar to that of the open top end.
9. The waste outlet fitting according to claim 7 or 8, wherein said flanged waste outlet member includes a strainer portion for capturing solids entering said waste outlet.
10, The waste outlet fitting according to any one of claims 7 to 9, wherein said flanged waste outlet member is releasably attached to said main tubular member by way of a separate attachment member which engages said flanged waste outlet member and said main tubular member.
