Abstract

Disclosed is a halogen light bulb comprising a carbide-containing filament and lead-in wires which retain the filament. A filament is vacuum-tightly introduced into a bulb along with a filling. The filament is provided with a metal carbide whose melting point is greater than that of tungsten, the carbon concentration of the metal carbide being smaller than that corresponding to complete carburization, i.e. carburization resulting in the production of metal carbides in which the number of metal atoms and the number of carbon atoms are at an integer stoichiometric ratio relative to each other.
