Description

PLANT FOR PRODUCING METAL PALLETS
The present invention relates to a plant for producing metal pallets. Metal pallets are known comprising substantially a platform supported by a plurality of uprights. An object of the invention is to automatically produce metal pallets of high capacity which can be manufactured at a high production rate.
This and other objects which will be apparent from the ensuing description are attained according to the invention by a plant for producing metal pallets. A preferred embodiment of the present invention is further clarified hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows the block diagram of a plant for implementing the process of the invention in plan view,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the production line for the platform, Figure 3 is a plan view of the production line for uprights,
Figure 4 is a plan view of the production line for reinforcements, Figure 5 is a plan view of the line for inserting the reinforcements into the uprights and for applying the platform to the uprights provided with reinforcements, Figure 6 shows the pallet stacking and discharge line, and Figure 7 shows a pallet obtained by the process.
As can be seen from the figures, the plant of the invention comprises essentially a production line A for a platform 100, a production line B for uprights 102, and a production line C for reinforcements 104. The lines A, B and C converge at an assembly station for the platform, the uprights and the reinforcements, downstream of which a pallet stacking station E is provided.
The line A comprises substantially a reel 2 for unwinding a sheet metal strip 4 which is fed to a punching system 6 which forms a plurality of corner bends on the strip.
The strip leaving the punching system 6 is fed to a profiling system 8 which forms on the strip a plurality of longitudinal reinforcement ribs 106 of substantially V cross-section, with an edge bent at 180° on itself. A cutting unit 10 is provided downstream of the station 8.
The production line B for the uprights also comprises a reel 12 for unwinding a sheet metal strip 14 of width corresponding to the plan development of three uprights, which is fed to a blanking, pre-bending and deep-drawing system 16 to form a plurality of cuts, ribs and drawn reinforcements.
On leaving the station 16 the strip is cut into three bands 18. The three bands 18 are then fed to a profiling system 20 which shapes them substantially as a U provided with 90°-bent flanges. The three bands are then subjected to the action of a unit for notching the surface for possible subsequent insertion of reinforcement and edging bars 22, to form pieces the length of which corresponds to the length of the uprights.
The three pieces are then fed to a unit 26 which makes the final bend in the previously blanked and pre-bent portions.
The formation line C for reinforcements comprises a reel 28 for unwinding a sheet metal strip which is fed to a pre-blanking station 30 from which it leaves to be fed to a profiling machine 32 and to a subsequent cutting unit 34.
The uprights leaving the unit 26 are fed to a station 36 in which they are clamped to allow insertion of the reinforcements 104 leaving the station 34.
The upright-reinforcement combination is then clinched to join them securely together. The uprights with the reinforcements applied to them are then fed to an assembly station 38 in which the platforms leaving the unit 10 are applied. The individual pallet formed in this manner is fed to a station 40 which forms a slight bend at the lower end of the upright, to facilitate its sliding during handling. The pallet then passes to a rotation system 42 consisting essentially of two overlying conveyor belts 44 defining a passageway, the height of which corresponds substantially to the pallet thickness. The two conveyor belts are mounted on a frame 46 which is hinged about an axis perpendicular to the pallet flow and parallel to the floor, and can be rotated between two 180° overturned positions, by means of an actuator. In this manner the pallets are fitted together in alternation, with the uprights of one pallet inserted into the space bounded by the uprights of the facing pallet, to achieve efficient stacking with smaller dimensions.
When stacking is complete, the pallet pack is fed to the discharge station 46.
From the aforegoing it is apparent that the process of the invention enables pallets to be obtained rapidly and automatically, with a considerable reduction in employed labour.
