Description

Title: THE CHANNEL SIGN BOARD
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a channel signboard, and more
particularly, to a channel signboard including an upper plate and a bottom plate
which are fastened to each other by a lateral fastener made of light transmissive
synthetic resin, in which the lateral fastener and the upper plate are attached by
an adhesive, and the lateral fastener and the bottom plate are engaged to each
other by a magnetic force or a fastening screw, without using a lateral frame
structure, so as to reduce a manufacturing cost of the channel signboard and
also increasing the productivity of the channel signboard, and in which the light
transmits the lateral fastener to increase an advertisement effect in night.
Background Art
Generally, a channel signboard is formed in characters or patterns, and
is attached to a wall in three dimensions. The channel signboard is formed in
a box type so that lighting equipment, such as a neon lamp or incandescent
lamp, is installed therein.
A conventional channel signboard will now be described with reference
to FIGs. 1 and 2. FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating a conventional channel
signboard, and FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view illustrating a
conventional channel signboard.
A conventional channel signboard 10 includes an opened channel 20
formed on a side of the signboard and a cover 30 formed on an upper surface
of the signboard. The channel 20 includes a bottom plate 21 made of a metal
plate, such as stainless steel or aluminum, and a lateral frame 25 made of the
same metal plate as that of the bottom plate and attached to the bottom plate
21. The cover 30 consists of an upper plate 32 made of a synthetic resin and a
fastener 35 adhered to an edge of the upper plate. The cover 30 is fastened to
the upper portion of the opened channel 20.
The fastener 35 is made of a plastic material or a metal such as
aluminum.
The method of manufacturing the conventional channel signboard using
the plastic fastener or the aluminum fastener will now be described.
FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view illustrating a process of manufacturing
the conventional channel signboard using the plastic fastener, and FIG. 4 is a
cross-sectional view illustrating a process of manufacturing the conventional
channel signboard using the aluminum fastener.
Referring to FIG. 3, a plastic fastener 35a includes a vertical fastening member 36a and an arrow-head type locking boss 37a integrally formed on an
upper end of the vertical fastening member 36a.
An adhesive 13 is applied to the contact surface between the edge of
the upper plate 32 which is formed in a character or pattern, and the locking
boss 37a of the plastic fastener 35a, and the locking boss 37a is adhered to the
upper plate 32 to form the cover 30. After the cover is laid on the upper portion
of the channel 20 having the same character or pattern as that of the upper
plate 32, the vertical fastening member 36a of the plastic fastener 35a is
fastened to the lateral frame 25 of the channel 20 by means of a fastening
screw 12, thereby completing the channel signboard 10. At that time, a lighting
equipment 22 is installed on the bottom plate 21 of the channel 20.
Referring to FIG. 4, an aluminum fastener 35b includes a vertical
fastening member 36a and a round type locking boss 37b integrally formed on
an upper end of the vertical fastening member 36a. A plastic clamping
member 38 is attached to the locking boss 37b.
An adhesive 13 is applied to the contact surface between the edge of
the upper plate 32 which is formed in a character or pattern, and the plastic
clamping member 38 attached to the locking boss 37b of the metal fastener
35b, and the clamping member 38 is adhered to the upper plate 32 to form the
cover 30. After the cover 30 is laid on the upper portion of the channel 20 having the same character or pattern as that of the upper plate 32, the vertical
fastening member 36a of the metal fastener 35b is fastened to the lateral frame
25 of the channel 20 by means of a fastening screw 12, thereby completing the
channel signboard 10. At that time, a lighting equipment 22 is installed on the
bottom plate 21 of the channel 20.
With the conventional channel signboard, the method of fastening the
channel and the bottom plate is varied depending upon the material and
construction of the channel and bottom, which will be described with reference
to the drawings.
FIGs. 5 to 7 are cross-sectional views illustrating the method of
fastening the channel and the bottom plate according to the material and
construction thereof.
The bottom plates 21a, 21b, and 21c cut in the same character or
pattern as that of the upper plate 32 (see FIGs. 3 and 4) are attached to the
lateral frames 25a, 25b, and 25c having the same as that of the bottom plates to
form the channel 20. The lighting equipment 22 is installed on the bottom
plates 21a, 21b, and 21c of the channel 20.
With the construction, the channel 20 is formed by welding the bottom
metal plate 21 onto the lateral metal plate 21c, as shown in FIG. 4a, while the
channel 20 is formed by engaging the bottom aluminum plate 21b with the lateral aluminum frame 25b by using a steel pin 23, as shown in FIG. 6. Also,
the channel 20 is formed by fastening the bottom metal plate 21c of steel or
aluminum to the bent portion of the lateral metal frame 25c of the same material
as that of the bottom plate by using the fastening screw 24.
The conventional channel signboard has the following drawbacks.
First, in case the lateral frame protruding from the bottom plate is made
of a metal material, it is difficult to handle the channel signboard due to its
heavy weight. Also, the welding operation lowers the workability.
Second, in case the lateral frame protruding from the bottom plate is
made of aluminum, the channel signboard is expensive. The engagement of
the steel pin by using a press requires for the intensive labor of an operator.
Third, the lateral frame protruding from the bottom plate is made of
aluminum or steel and the fastening is carried out through the bent portion, the
formation of the bent portion requires for the prolong operation time.
Last, since the lateral frame of the above channel signboard is made of
an opaque material and is extended from the bottom plate to the upper plate,
the light emitted from the lighting equipment cannot transmit the lateral frame.
Therefore, the advertisement effect is reduced in night. That is, the light
emitted from the lighting equipment transmits only the front surface through the
upper plate, and does not transmit the lateral portion. The conventional channel signboard can not be recognized when viewing at a side, but is
recognized only when viewing at front side.
Disclosure
Technical Problem
The present invention has been made in view of the foregoing
problems, and it is an object of the present invention to provide a channel
signboard, in which the channel signboard does not use a lateral frame of a
bottom metal plate formed on a conventional channel signboard, so that the
total weight of the channel signboard can be reduced, and in which a lateral
plastic fastener is provided in place of a conventional lateral metal frame, the
light emitted from lighting equipment can transmit the lateral fastener, as well as
a front cover of the front, thereby enhancing the advertisement effect in night.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a channel
signboard, in which a manufacturing cost of the channel signboard can be
lowered by not using a conventional lateral frame.
Further another object of the present invention is to provide a channel
signboard, in which a lateral fastener is fastened to a horizontal bottom plate by
means of a magnet, thereby improving the workability and shortening a working
time. Technical Solution
In order to achieve the above objects, in one aspect of the present
invention, there is provided a channel signboard comprising a cover having an
upper plastic plate with a character or pattern; a horizontal bottom plate made of
a steel or aluminum metal plate and having the same character or pattern as
that of the upper plate; bottom plate couplers engaged to both ends of the
horizontal bottom plate; and a lateral fastener fixed to the upper plate of the
cover and the bottom plate coupler.
The bottom plate coupler includes a vertical plate closely contacting a
lower end of the lateral fastener at an outer side thereof, and a horizontal plate
integrally formed with a lower end of the vertical plate and receiving the
horizontal bottom plate. The lateral fastener includes a vertical body, an upper
support portion integrally formed with an upper end of the vertical body and
having a bent portion, and a lower support portion positioned under the upper
support portion and integrally formed with the vertical body in a horizontal plate.
Both ends of the upper plate are inserted between the upper support portion
and lower support portion of the lateral fastener. An adhesive is applied on a
contact surface between the upper plate and the lower support portion. Both
ends of the horizontal bottom plate are inserted between the upper and lower horizontal plates of the bottom plate coupler. The horizontal bottom plate is
fastened to the upper and lower horizontal plates by using a fastening screw.
The vertical body of the lateral fastener is fixed to the vertical plate of the
bottom plate coupler by a fastening screw.
Preferably, the vertical body of the lateral fastener further includes a
sliding prevention portion integrally formed on a lower portion of the vertical
body, the sliding prevention portion having a bent portion, in which the bent
sliding prevention portion comes in contact with an upper portion of the vertical
plate to prevent the vertical plate of the bottom plate coupler from sliding.
An oval boss may be integrally formed on the lower end of the vertical
body so as to increase strength of the lower end of the vertical body.
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided
a channel signboard comprising a cover having an upper plastic plate with a
character or pattern; a horizontal bottom plate made of a steel metal plate and
having the same character or pattern as that of the upper plate; and a lateral
fastener fixed to the upper plate of the cover and the horizontal bottom plate.
The lateral fastener includes a vertical body, an upper support portion
integrally formed with an upper end of the vertical body and having a bent
portion, and a lower support portion positioned under the upper support portion
and integrally formed with the vertical body in a horizontal plate. A magnet is fixed to a lower end of the vertical body. Both ends of the upper plate are
inserted between the upper support portion and lower support portion of the
lateral fastener. An adhesive is applied on a contact surface between the
upper plate and the lower support portion. The horizontal bottom plate is fixed
to a panel by a fastening screw. The magnet of the lower end of the vertical
body of the lateral fastener is magnetically fixed to the horizontal bottom plate.
According to further another aspect of the present invention, there is
provided a channel signboard comprising a cover having an upper plastic plate
with a character or pattern; a horizontal bottom plate made of an aluminum
metal plate and having the same character or pattern as that of the upper plate;
and a lateral fastener fixed to the upper plate of the cover and the horizontal
bottom plate.
The lateral fastener includes a vertical body, an upper support portion
integrally formed with an upper end of the vertical body and having a bent
portion, and a lower support portion positioned under the upper support portion
and integrally formed with the vertical body in a horizontal plate. A magnet is
fixed to a lower end of the vertical body. Both ends of the upper plate are
inserted between the upper support portion and lower support portion of the
lateral fastener. An adhesive is applied on a contact surface between the
upper plate and the lower support portion. The horizontal bottom plate is fixed to a panel by a fastening screw. The lower end of the vertical body of the
lateral fastener is fixed to the horizontal bottom plate by a fastening screw.
In the arrangement, the lateral fastener may be made of a transparent
plastic, through which light transmits.
The horizontal bottom plate may be provided with a lighting equipment.
Advantageous Effects
According to the channel signboard, since the channel signboard of the
present invention does not use a lateral frame of a bottom metal plate formed
on a conventional channel signboard, the total weight of the channel signboard
can be reduced. Since the lateral plastic fastener is provided in place of the
lateral metal frame, the light emitted from the lighting equipment can transmit
the lateral fastener, as well as the front cover of the front, thereby enhancing the
advertisement effect in night.
Also, a manufacturing cost of the channel signboard can be lowered by
not using a lateral frame.
The lateral fastener is fastened to the horizontal bottom plate by means
of the magnet, thereby improving the workability and shortening a working time.
In addition, the channel signboard of the present invention utilizes the
aluminum plate as a reinforcing member of the lateral fastener, thereby increasing the fastening force of the lateral fastener and also increasing the
strength of the lateral fastener.

horizontal plate. A magnet 138 is fixed to the lower end of the vertical body
132, and is magnetically coupled to the steel horizontal bottom plate 121. In
this instance, the magnet 138 may be formed through injection molding when
the lateral fastener 130 is formed. Also, the magnet 138 may be inserted into
the receiving groove formed on the lower end of the lateral fastener 130.
The process of assembling the channel signboard according to another
embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to
FIGs. 15 and 16.
Both ends of the upper cover plate 32 having a predetermined
character or pattern are inserted between the upper support portion 135 and the
lower support portion 137 which are integrally formed on the upper portion of
the vertical body 132 of the lateral fastener 130. The adhesive 13 is applied on

Both ends of the upper cover plate 32 having a predetermined
character or pattern are inserted between the upper support portion 135 and the
lower support portion 137 which are integrally formed on the upper portion of
the vertical body 132 of the lateral fastener 130. An adhesive (not shown) is
applied on the contact surface between the upper plate 32 and the lower support portion 137.
The horizontal bottom plate 121 having the same character or pattern
as that of the upper cover plate 32 is fastened to the panel P of the channel
board by inserting a fastening screw 12a into the bottom plate 121.
After the horizontal bottom plate 121 is fixed to the panel P, the lower
portion of the vertical body 132 of the lateral fastener 130 which is fixed to the
upper portion of the upper cover plate 32 comes into close contact with the
outer surface of the horizontal bottom plate 121. As a result, the magnet 138
provided on the lower end of the vertical body 132 is magnetically coupled to
the steel horizontal bottom plate 121.
Also, the aluminum plate 138a which is a reinforcing member of the
lower surface of the lateral fastener 130 is fastened to the outer surface of the
horizontal bottom plate 121 by using a fastening screw 12b to increase the
fastening force.

invention is completed by the above assembling process. In this instance, the
lighting equipment (not shown), such as neon lamp or incandescent lamp, is
installed on the horizontal bottom plate 121 of the channel signboard.
The features of the assembled channel signboard according an
embodiment of the present invention will now be described. First, since the lateral frame does not use a lateral frame of a bottom
metal plate formed on a conventional channel signboard, the total weight of the
channel signboard can be reduced, and the assembling operation can be easily
carried out. Also, a manufacturing cost of the channel signboard can be
lowered.
Second, since the lateral plastic fastener is provided in place of the
lateral metal frame, the light emitted from the lighting equipment can transmit
the lateral fastener, as well as the front cover of the front, thereby enhancing the
advertisement effect in night.
Third, the lateral fastener is fastened to the horizontal bottom plate by
means of the magnet, without using a fastening screw, thereby improving the
workability and shortening a working time.
Forth, the fastening force is increased by coupling the lateral fastener
with the horizontal bottom plate with the aluminum plate, as well as increasing
the strength of the lower surface of the lateral fastener.
Industrial Applicability
As can be seen from the foregoing, according to the channel signboard,
since the channel signboard of the present invention does not use a lateral
frame of a bottom metal plate formed on a conventional channel signboard, the total weight of the channel signboard can be reduced. Since the lateral plastic
fastener is provided in place of the lateral metal frame, the light emitted from the
lighting equipment can transmit the lateral fastener, as well as the front cover of
the front, thereby enhancing the advertisement effect in night.
Also, a manufacturing cost of the channel signboard can be lowered by
not using a lateral frame.
The lateral fastener is fastened to the horizontal bottom plate by means
of the magnet, thereby improving the workability and shortening a working time.
In addition, the channel signboard of the present invention utilizes the
aluminum plate as a reinforcing member of the lateral fastener, thereby
increasing the fastening force of the lateral fastener and also increasing the
strength of the lateral fastener.
While this invention has been described in connection with what is
presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is to
be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiment and
the drawings. On the contrary, it is intended to cover various modifications and
variations within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
