Definitions

  • the invention deals with health-care material with active carbon for wound treatment.
  • Bandage material containing carbon is very convenient for treatment of mattering and badfy healing wounds, thanks to its absorptive effect.
  • Active carbon absorbs smell, neutralizes unpleasant smell of infected and contaminated! wounds. Active carbon is afso capable of binding bacteria.
  • Bandage material consisting of several layers is known at the market. For example bandage material consisting of a layer protecting underclothes, a layer of pulp, a layer of viscose fibre with active carbon in compressed form and a special mould to be put on the wound.
  • the active absorption layer of compressed carbon grains however does not come into direct contact with the treated surface, and so it is not efficient enough.
  • the moulding attached to the wound sticks to that, which impairs healing.
  • the active carbon or carbon grains of all the above bandage materials are enclosed in pack, with decreases their curative action.
  • the solution according to CZ PV 2003-916 presents bandage material with a carbon layer ini controlled interlink with a fayer of carrying stabilization material of harmless substance, while the combination of both the materials has been solved so that the new material can, be attached by the carbon layer directly to the wound, which guarantees higher healing efficiency.
  • the carbon layer is stable on the new base and the bandage material is flexible enough for the necessary handling.
  • the carrying layer was, unlike in the current solutions, composed of defined portion of viscose and polypropylene fibres.
  • the carbon fibre fabric Es not toxic, does not invoke unfavourable reactions, is permeable and water receptive.
  • the carbon fabric does not content any other heterogeneous substances that might have irritating effect or reduce absorption.
  • the design and mechanical properties of the bandage material according to the invention enable direct immediate contact of the carbon layer with the wound base, where it has positive absorption effect.
  • the active carbon layer is made by controlled carbonization of hydrate-cellulose fibre with consequent activation in controlled atmosphere at high temperature.
  • the thermal processing results in pure activated carbon of substantial microcellular structure that guarantees high absorption effect for organic substances.
  • PV 2003-91 ⁇ 6 has shown that when applied on some types of wounds viscose fibres from the carrying layer got rarely loose and penetrated through the carbon layer. Actually penetration of a viscose fibre to body tissue has not been observed yet, but there is a theoretical possibility of penetration of an individual viscose fibre into the body micro-capillary system.
  • a new solution of healthcare material with active carbon containing a carrying layer and an active carbon layer however its principle is based on the fact that in consists of: a carrying layer, created by composing several layers of viscose and polypropylene, for example by calendering, while at least 80 % of polypropylene as binding material is in the outer sides of the carrying layer and at least 80 % of viscose inside.
  • the cross section of the carrying layer fibres may be circular or have another geometrical shape, fibres with the maximum possible number of parabolic edges for increasing the fibre surface may be considered more suitable, for example cross section of a multi-spike aster shape.
  • this layer may for example be produced as woven or unwoven carbon fabric, while there is another layer arranged between the above two layers with the shape of planar grid with controlled structure formed of antibacterial material, for example polyester, wh ⁇ fe the holes may be formed into various shapes, e.g. circutar, triangular, square, trapezoid etc.
  • the thickness of the fibres the grid is made of is not particularly defined, the best effect may be reached with a grid consisting of fibres of 0.1 - 0.2 mm. Insertion of the grid between the two layers gives a space for creating microclimate over the wound. AIf three layers form a compact unit tied together by for example thermal processing or gluing, or both etc., or it may be just put together by pressure, the grid will attach to both the layers.
  • the grid serves as carries of additional substances supporting healing
  • the health-care material with active carbon according to the invention is compact, stable, flexible for handling, may be made in a very thin layer without losing its effect, is permeable, enables addition of various healing substances.
  • Fig. 1 shows the health-care material with active carbon in a view with lifted corner of the carrier layer so all the three layers can be seen.
  • Fig 2 shows a layer with active carbon fibres, on which there is a layer with trapezoid holes arranged, and Fig. 3 shoves the healthcare material cross section structure.
  • the health care material with active carbon in the example version shown in figures 1 through 4 on the attached drawings consists of a carrying layer 1 made by combining several layers of viscose and polypropylene by calendering, so that at least 80 % of polypropyfene as bounded material is in the outer surfaces of the carrying layer 1 and at least 80 % of the viscose in the middle, while the cross section of the fibres of the carrying fayer 1 is circular, it then consists of layer 2 formed by carbon fibre fabric, and there is another layer arranged between the above layers in the form of planar grid 3 of polyester, whife the holes of the grid 3 have nearly regular trapezoid shape, whose parallel sides are 2 mm and 8 mm long and the sides which are not parallel are 7 mm long and the fibres of the grid 3 are 0.1 - 0.2 mm thick.
  • the resulting material is very efficient, compact, flexible, easy to handle. It is attached to a wound directly with layer 2, i.e. the active carbon fibre fabric
  • layer 2 i.e. the active carbon fibre fabric
  • the multilayer arrangement of the carrying layer 1 improves absorption of the carrying layer 1 to absorbing material put over the carrying fayer 1
  • Moisture penetration direction 5 goes from layer 2 to layer 1, which moreover improves the efficiency of the healthcare material.
  • the grid 3 between the layers i and 2 space 4 is formed, which improves the microclimate over the wound and the grid 3 may moreover be used as a carrier of additional substances supporting wound healing. Insertion of the grid 3 eliminates loosening of carrier layer JL fibres to the active coal layer 2.
  • the health care material according to the invention may be used on non-heating wounds primarily or secondarify contaminated, open infected tumour defects in dermatology, venous ulcers, ulcer skin complications in diabetes rnellitus, on burns, on after-operation wounds ⁇ n surgery etc. Its use is particularly convenient for stoppage of surface bleeding, during simple as well as complicated surgical operations, ⁇ n numerous heafth care situations as weff as in various nonprofessional use.
