Abstract

La présente invention concerne des procédés pour obtenir une perte ou un gain de poids chez un sujet en utilisant la stimulation cérébrale profonde (DBS). Dans un aspect, l'invention propose un procédé pour obtenir une perte de poids en utilisant la stimulation cérébrale profonde, comprenant le positionnement d'un fil électrique dans le cerveau d'un sujet, dans une région cible du cerveau associée à l'appétit ou l'alimentation. Une stimulation électrique est appliquée au fil dans des conditions adaptées pour entraîner une perte de poids chez le sujet. L'invention concerne en outre des procédés de traitement pour une large diversité de troubles du poids, comprenant des conditions impliquant un excédent de poids, par exemple l'obésité, et une insuffisance de poids, notamment des troubles de l'alimentation, par exemple, l'anorexie mentale, la boulimie et le trouble de frénésie alimentaire.
