  • the present invention relates to an adjustable chair and more particularly, but not exclusively, to an adjustable wheelchair and as well to the adjustable seat assembly and adjustable backrest assembly thereof.
  • Wheelchairs having adjustable component parts are known and an example thereof is described and illustrated in US patent 5593211. It is also known to extend the seat portion of a chair having an extendable cushion thereon, such as described in US patents 5588708 and 6454353. However, these adjustable features only apply to few component parts of a chair or a wheelchair and usually such chairs are custom fit for an intended user and this is particularly so with wheelchairs for handicapped persons.

Therefore, it is within the ambit of the present invention to cover obvious modifications of the preferred embodiment described herein and various intended uses of the adjustable chair described herein, provided such modifications fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un fauteuil à mécanismes de réglage multiples (10), comprenant une structure de support (11) à laquelle sont fixés un siège réglable (25) et un dossier réglable (12). Le dossier réglable (12) comporte des plaques de support mobiles (14) pouvant être réglées dans une position désirée. Un coussin pour le dos (18) est fixé à ces plaques de support mobiles (14) et peut être déplacé conjointement avec les plaques lorsque le dossier est déployé ou rétracté. Le siège réglable (25) comporte une paire de panneaux (75, 75') pouvant être déplacés latéralement, ainsi qu'une structure de guidage avant (29), le coussin de siège (26) pouvant également être agrandi vers les côtés et vers l'avant lorsque les panneaux (75, 75') et la structure de guidage avant (29) sont déplacés, pour régler la taille du siège. Ce fauteuil à mécanismes de réglage multiples (10) est, de préférence, mais de façon non exclusive, un fauteuil roulant, comportant une base de support réglable (30) et un mécanisme (36) permettant d'incliner le fauteuil.
