Description

Apparatus
The invention relates to an apparatus for mounting an object onto a surface, for example for attaching plastic bottles of shampoo and/or shower gel onto a wall of a room, for example, a bathroom.
Many everyday objects need to be ready to hand, and therefore ideally are kept somewhere where they can be easily found or reached. However people often misplace objects such as mobile phones or tools. Another common problem is that in certain places it may not be practical to install storage means for example shelves or cupboards in order to store and access objects. This can be a particular problem for objects which are located in the bathroom.
Few shampoo and shower gel bottles are made with a provision to attach and support them to the shower or within the bathroom area, this then causes a problem as to where to place the bottle whilst applying its contents. This problem is enhanced if you are using these bottles within a shower cubicle where a ledge or shelf is not available.
An apparatus which addressed the above disadvantages would therefore be desirable.
Accordingly the present invention^ provides an apparatus for releasably attaching an object onto a surface, comprising a surface-mountable plate and a reclosable fastening system, wherein a first part of the reclosable fastening system is attached (or attachable) to the surface-mountable plate and a corresponding part of the reclosable fastening system is attachable (or attached) to the object (i.e., the object to be mounted onto the surface) . This apparatus advantageously allows an object to be releasably attached to a surface, for example, in places where normal storage solutions may not be possible. Examples of such places are small rooms, bathrooms or shower cubicles. This apparatus is particularly suitable for releasably attaching objects such as containers or bottles of showergel, shampoo, toothpaste, shaving foam, washing up liquid, spices and/or paint pots onto a surface. It is also suitable for attaching many other objects onto a surface, for example, toothbrushes, curtains, mobile phones, pictures, tools, sports equipment and/or hangers.
The surface onto which the object is to be attached may be arranged at any angle and may be surfaced in any way, for example tiled or untilled.
Using such a reclosable fastening system allows objects to be used either in position, attached to the surface, or removed, used and then reattached after their use.
In one aspect, the reclosable fastening system comprises a hook and loop system. The reclosable fastening system may for example be Velcro®.
In a further aspect of the invention, a bottle attachment apparatus is provided. The first part of the reclosable fastening system may protrude from the surface-mountable plate. This first part marries up with the corresponding part of the reclosable fastening system, which is attachable to any bottle, for example a shampoo or shower gel bottle.
The surface-mountable plate is formed from a plastics material. The surface-mountable plate may be injection moulded. Suitably the apparatus, in particular the surface-mountable plate, is transparent in colour so as not to take away the ambience and decor from the room in which it is used. Suitably the reclosable fastening system is supported in a plastic stylish surround. The surface-mountable plate may be ovoid in shape. However the surface-mountable shape may comprise any other suitable shape, for example, it may be square, round or triangular. Alternatively the surface mountable plate may be in the shape of an animal or cartoon character. Ideally the surface-mountable plate is arranged to have two or more layers, for example one or two or more layers extending outwardly from a base layer. Each layer preferably has a smaller surface area than the one below it, such that the surface-mountable plate is tiered. The tiers may advantageously act to keep the object away from the surface during use of the apparatus.
In one embodiment, the first part of the reclosable fastening system comprises a hook disk which may be pushed in from the rear of the surface-mountable plate and optionally then be sealed in place. The first part of the reclosable fastening system may be positioned in the centre of the surface-mountable plate, ideally on the top tier. The corresponding part of the reclosable fastening system may be a smaller loop disk which can be attached to an object, such as a bottle. The loop disk may have adhesive on its rear surface to allow it to be attached to an object.
The rear of the surface-mountable plate may be covered in a transparent foam adhesive pad to enable the apparatus to be attached to the surface . Any other suitable attachment means may however be used, for example, nails, screws and/or any alternative adhesive. In one embodiment, double-sided adhesive tape is used as the attachment means.
The corresponding part of the reclosable fastening system may have a smaller contact surface area than the first part of the reclosable fastening system. This advantageously reduces resistance when pulling the object away from the surface- mountable plate during use. In an alternative embodiment, the corresponding part of the hook and look system may be located on or comprises a strap. The strap can be positioned around an object to be mounted during use of the apparatus. Either the full length of the strap or a portion of it may be compatible with the first part of the reclosable fastening system. Ideally the strap is adjustable to fit objects of different sizes.
A further aspect of the present invention comprises a surface- mountable plate for use in an apparatus as described herein.
A further aspect of the present invention comprises a shampoo or shower gel bottle holder that allows a means for attaching the bottles to the wall of a bathroom or shower cubicle by means of a reclosable fastening system such as a hook and loop system.
The shower or shampoo bottle holder may be made from plastic, metal or wood, or from a combination of these materials. The shower or shampoo bottle holder may be made into any other shape or design.
A further aspect of the present invention provides an injection moulded plastic plate with several tiers allowing the bottle to sit away from the bathroom wall.
Other features of the present invention will become apparent from the following examples. Generally speaking the invention extends to any novel one, or any novel combination, of the features disclosed in this specification (including any accompanying claims and drawings) . Moreover unless stated otherwise, any feature disclosed herein may be replaced by an alternative feature serving the same or a similar purpose. The present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying illustrative drawings, of which:
FIGURE 1 shows a front view of a surface-mountable plate according to a first embodiment of the present apparatus showing the two tier protrusions;
FIGURES 2a and 2b show side views of a surface-mountable plate as depicted in Figure 1 and corresponding part of a reclosable fastening system, showing the two tier attachment of a shampoo or shower gel bottle; and
FIGURE 3 shows a plan view of a strap according to a second embodiment of the invention, for use in attaching an object to a surface .
All drawings are schematic.
As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the apparatus comprises a surface- mountable plate 1 in the form of a shaped piece of injection moulded plastic. The plate 1 has two tier protrusions 2, to allow a bottle 4 or other object to be attached away from a surface 6. A first part 8 of a hook and loop system is attached to the centre of the plate 1. In this embodiment the first part 8 is a hook disk which protrudes from the plate 1. The hook disk is inserted into place at the rear 10 of the plate 1 and' is held in place by a plastic plug (not shown) .
The plate 1 is constructed from a clear plastic piece so not to take away the ambience of the room in which the surface 6 is located, such as a bathroom. The plate 1 may also be decorated with a raised protrusion 12.
A strong adhesive pad or pads may be placed onto the rear 10 of the plate 1 to allow it to be attached to a tiled or other bathroom type surface 6. The adhesive pad may be larger or smaller in area than the plate 1.
The corresponding part of the hook and loop system may comprise a loop disk 14 as shown in Figure 2b or may alternatively be part of a strap 17 as shown in Figure 3. The loop disk 14 of Figure 2b is attachable to an object such as a shampoo or shower gel bottle 4 by means of adhesive located on a rear surface 16 of the loop disk 14. Ideally the loop disk 14 is smaller than the hook disk 8 to allow for less resistance when pulling the object 4 off the surface 6 for use.
