Description

CANDLE FINIAL
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to candle accessories. In particular, the invention relates to a candle finial, which is a decorative ornament for covering an unlit wick of a candle.
BACKGROUND ART
In early times, candles were used primarily to provide light for work areas. Today, candles come in different shapes and forms and create an ambiance for leisure purposes, as well as providing light. Candles have also long been used in various ceremonies and rites that are religious in nature. Whether used as decoration or for work purposes, used candles display an unsightly burnt candlewick that detracts from the aesthetics of the candle. Some candle enthusiasts use jarred candles that can be concealed when not in use; however, no universal solution to covering burnt, cool candlewicks has been provided.
There is a need for a candle finial that can be placed over a cooled candlewick without affecting the wick, and that provides an ornamented decoration on the candle. Thus, a candle finial solving the aforementioned problems is desired.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
This disclosure is directed to a candle in combination with a candle finial. The candle finial has an ornamental body with a base end, a top end, and a central section extending between the base end and the top end. The ornamental body has a cavity extending axially through the base end into the central section. The candle has a top surface and a candlewick extends from the top surface. The base of the finial body is dimensioned and configured to support the finial on the top surface of the candle. The ornamental body is dimensioned and configured to cover the candlewick. The disclosure is also directed to a candle finial kit. The kit includes at least one candle finial with an ornamental body. The ornamental body has a base end, a top end, and a central section extending between the base end and the top end. The ornamental body has a cavity extending axially through the base end and into the central section. The kit also includes at least one candle with a top surface and a candlewick extending from the top surface.
The disclosure is further directed to a candle fϊnial kit that includes a plurality of candle finials. Each of the finials has an ornamental body with a base end, a top end, and a central section extending between the base end and the top end. The ornamental body has a cavity extending axially through the base end into the central section. The ornamental body is dimensioned and configured for standing upright on a candle top with a wick extending from the candle top so that the wick is enclosed within the cavity in the ornamental body.
These and other features of the present invention will become readily apparent upon further review of the following specification and drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 is an environmental, perspective view of a candle finial according to the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a section view drawn along lines 2-2 of Fig. 1 and the finial exploded above the top of the candle.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a plurality of representative candle finials that may form a kit of candle finials according to the present invention.
Similar reference characters denote corresponding features consistently throughout the attached drawings.
BEST MODES FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
The present invention is a decorative ornament with a body having a base end, sides, a top end, and a cavity. The cavity is an inverted opening defined within the body that is dimensioned and configured to receive a candlewick.
In use, the finial is placed on a cooled, unlit candle. The finial is disposed on the top surface of the cooled candle after the flame has been extinguished to cover up the unsightly blackened candlewick.
The finial may be made of any material, such as plastic, wood, metal, etc. The body of the finial may have any ornamental or decorative shape, such as the shape of a heart, a figurine, a holiday ornament, or any other shape or design. Each finial is formed with a cavity for receiving the candlewick. The candle finial is designated generally as 10 in the drawings. As shown in Fig. 1, the candle finial 10 is formed with a decorative, ornamental body, the representative example shown in Fig. 1 having a shape simulating a Christmas tree. Referring to Fig. 2, the finial 10 has a body defined by a base end 14, a central section 16, and a top end 18. A cavity 12 is defined within the body and extends axially from the base end 14 into the central section 16 ofthe fmial lO.
Still referring to Fig. 2, the cavity 12 is an inverted opening defined within the body of the finial 10. The cavity 10 is dimensioned and configured to receive a candlewick 75 of a candle 70. The finial 10 may be made of any material, such as plastic, wood, metal, etc. As shown in Fig. 3, the finial 10 may be made in other shapes or designs and furnished in kit form, with or without one or more candles. For instance, the finial may be formed as a knob- or mushroom-shaped finial 20; a global or spherical finial 30; a figurine, such as a snowman finial 40; or a heart-shaped finial 50. The finial shapes shown in Fig. 3 are representative only; the body of the finial is not limited to the decorative ornamental shapes shown. Regardless of the ornamental external appearance, each finial has a substantially solid body with an axially extending cavity extending into the central section of the body for receiving the candlewick 75 of the candle 70. The cavity 12 may be cylindrical, ovoid, or any other shape dimensioned to cover the wick 75. The body of the finial is symmetrically disposed above the base end 14 so that the finial remains upright above the top surface of the candle.
In use, the finial is placed on a cooled, unlit candle 70 where the wax on the top surface 72 of the candle 70 is sturdy and solid. The finial is placed on the top surface 72 of the candle after the wick 75 has been extinguished and cooled. The finial is then used to cover up the unsightly, blackened candlewick 75. It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above, but encompasses any and all embodiments within the scope of the following claims.
