Abstract
An engagement system for CDs, DVDs, photographs, color slides and other similar objects to be retained in suitable supports, characterized in that flexible tabs protrude from the rim of recessed seats (3A; 13A; 23A; 33A; 42A; 52A; 62A; 72A; 82A) provided in flat supports (S) in order to accommodate the discs (1) or other similar objects to be retained, the tabs being substantially parallel to the bottom of the receptacles and being shorter than the depth of the receptacles, so that after the momentary flexing imposed by the passage of the object to be retained they can return spontaneously to the initial configuration or in any case be arranged above the inserted object, hindering its accidental escape but not preventing its manual removal, since in this circumstance it can flex outward.
Description
ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR CDS, DVDS, PHOTOGRAPHS, COLOR SLIDES AND OTHER SIMILAR OBJECTS TO BE RETAINED IN SUITABLE SUPPORTS Technical Field The present invention relates to an engagement system for CDs,
DVDs, photographs, color slides and other similar objects to be retained in suitable supports. Background Art
Currently, CDs and DVDs are stored in thin rectangular plastic cases, which have, in one of the two mutually hinged halves, a sort of circular recess, which is interrupted in two diametrically opposite points tangent to two parallel sides of the case, so that it is possible to lift the disc from one of these points with one finger while another finger of the same hand can release the disc by pressing the elastic elements that engage it in the central hole.
Disclosure of the Invention
The ever-increasing diffusion of such discs leads to concern regarding the moment when many of these, together with their cases, will end up among municipal solid waste, and since currently it is not conceivable to manufacture CDs and DVDs without resorting to plastic materials, the aim of the present invention is to allow the manufacture of their far more bulky cases by using biodegradable natural materials such as paper and cardboard, without however renouncing some particularities, such as the engagement of the disc with a support, within the case or elsewhere, in order to avoid its accidental separation.
Generally speaking, according to the invented system, flexible tabs protrude from the rim of the recessed receptacles provided in suitable flat supports in order to accommodate the discs or other similar objects to be retained; said tabs are substantially parallel to the bottom of said receptacles and are shorter than the depth of said receptacles, so that after the
momentary flexing imposed by the passage of the object to be retained, they can return spontaneously to the initial configuration or in any case be arranged above the inserted object, hindering its accidental escape.
Since this engagement system affects the outer edge but not the hole of CDs and DVDs, this makes it suitable also for photographs, color slides and other similar objects to be retained in suitable flat supports of cases, binders, displays etc. Brief description of the Drawings
In order to describe better the devised system, seven drawings are attached in which, merely by way of non-limiting example:

Figures 6, 7, 8 and 9 illustrate a second exemplary embodiment of the invention by means of the front view of a disc already engaged in a support
(Figure 6) and the sequence of three enlarged-scale sectional views, which show the support in two steps of the insertion of the disc (Figures 7, 8) and after disc insertion (Figure 9);

Figure 22 is a view of a variation of the example of Figures 16-18 for the engagement of square or rectangular objects. Ways of carrying out the Invention
With reference to the accompanying drawings, and starting from the example of Figures 1-5, a disc 1 is retained within a receptacle 3 A of a support S by a plurality of flexible tabs 2A, which protrude from the rim of said receptacle above the disc 1. The support S is obtained by first die- cutting a cardboard sheet 3 in order to form therein the receptacle 3 A, which is designed to accommodate the disc 1 and is connected to an opening 3B, by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the disc in order to lift it and remove it from the support.
A sheet of paper 2 is glued onto the cardboard sheet 3 thus die-cut and is intended to be die-cut subsequently, partly replicating the previous die-cut and forming the flexible tabs 2A so that they protrude from such previous die-cut.
The support S is completed by closing its bottom by gluing the sheet 4 onto the sheet 3 on the opposite side with respect to the side covered by the sheet 2.
According to the example of Figures 6-9, the disc 1 is retained within the receptacle 13A of the support S by a sort of rigid pocket 12A and by a
plurality of flexible tabs 12B, which protrude from the rim of said receptacle above the disc 1. The pocket 12A affects no more than half of the edge of the disc and in particular the region that lies opposite the region that is provided with the tabs 12B and has at its center the opening 13B from which one can act, with one finger, against the edge of the disc in order to lift it and remove it from the support.
The support S is obtained by first die-cutting a cardboard sheet 13 in order to form therein the receptacle 13 A, which is designed to accommodate the disc 1 and is connected to the opening 13B. A sheet of paper 12 is glued onto the sheet of cardboard 13 thus die- cut and is intended to be die-cut subsequently in order to partly replicate the previous die-cut and form, both the pocket 12A and the flexible tabs 12B so that they protrude from said previous die-cut.
The support S is completed by closing its bottom by gluing the sheet 14 onto the sheet 13 on the opposite side with respect to the side covered by the sheet 12.
According to the example of Figures 10-12, the disc 1 is retained within the substantially polygonal receptacle 23A of the support S by the overlap of a plurality of flexible flaps 22A and by resting against a plurality of flexible flaps 22B which are alternated with the first flaps and are longer than said first flaps, in order to remain below the disc, keeping it adjacent to the overlying flaps 22A.
Each one of the flaps 22A and 22B protrudes at one of the flat and straight faces of the receptacle 23 A, which is designed to accommodate the disc 1 and is connected to the opening 23B, by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the disc in order to lift it and remove it from the support.
The support S is obtained by first die-cutting a sheet of cardboard 23 in order to form therein the receptacle 23A which is connected to the opening 23B.
A sheet of paper 22 is glued onto the sheet of cardboard 23 thus die- cut, and is intended to be die-cut subsequently in order to partly replicate the previous die-cut and in particular in order to form the flexible flaps 22A and 22B so that they protrude from said previous die-cut. The support S is completed by closing its bottom by gluing the sheet
24 onto the sheet 23 on the opposite side with respect to the side covered by the sheet 22.
According to the example of Figures 13-15, the disc 1 is retained within the substantially polygonal receptacle 33 A of the support S by resting on a plurality of flexible flaps 32B and by the overlap of a plurality of flexible flaps 32A, which are cut into the former within a larger cutout 32C and can be arranged above the edge of the disc 1 before said disc, by entering the receptacle 33A, rests against the internal edge of the cutout flaps 32B. Each flap 32A and the flap 32B into which it is cut protrude at one of the flat and straight faces of the receptacle 33 A, which is designed to accommodate the disc 1 and is connected to the opening 33B by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the disc in order to lift it and remove it from the support S, which in this specific case does not require a bottom due to the presence of the flaps 32B.
The support S is obtained by first die-cutting a sheet of cardboard 33 in order to form therein the receptacle 33 A connected to the opening 33B.
A sheet of paper 32 is glued onto the cardboard sheet 33 thus die-cut and is intended to be die-cut subsequently in order to partly replicate the previous die-cut and in particular in order to form the flexible flaps 32A and 32B so that they protrude from it.
According to the example of Figures 16 and 17, the disc 1 is retained, within a substantially polygonal receptacle 42A which is die-cut into a cardboard layer 42, by a series of flexible flaps 41 A and by a corresponding number of flexible flaps 43A which are larger and are located at the first
ones.
Further, each pair of flaps 41 A and 43 A protrudes at one of the straight sides of the substantially polygonal receptacle 44A which is connected to the opening 44B by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the disc in order to lift it and remove it from the support S.
The support S is obtained as follows:
- die-cutting of the thin sheet 42 and of the thicker sheet 44;
- gluing of the sheet 41 on the sheet 42 in order to die-cut it, partly replicating the previous die-cutting and in particular forming the flexible flaps 41 A so that they protrude from it;
- die-cutting of the flaps 43A after gluing the sheet 43 onto the sheet 44 or onto the sheet 42, which is already completed by the gluing and die-cutting of the sheet 41; - gluing of the already die-cut assembly (41-42-43-44) and forming of the bottom by fixing the sheet 45.
According to the example of Figure 18, the support is preset so that it is possible to engage therewith a disc 1 on each of its two faces, since both are provided, as in Figures 16 and 17, with a series of flexible flaps 41 A and with a corresponding number of flexible flaps 43A which are larger and are located at the first flaps.
Except for the embodiment of Figures 13-15, the other four described and illustrated embodiments are suitable to be adapted to engage therewith photographs, color slides and other similar objects which have a square or rectangular shape.
In the version of Figure 19, which is derived from the example of
Figures 1-5, the photograph or color slide 50 is in fact retained within the receptacle 52 A of the support S by a plurality of flexible flaps 51 A which protrude from the rim of the receptacle 52A which is connected to the opening 52B by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against
the edge of the element 50 in order to lift it and remove it from the support.
In the version of Figure 20, which is derived from the example of Figures 6-9, the photograph or color slide 50 is retained within the receptacle 62 A of the support S by a sort of rigid pocket 61 A and by two flexible flaps 6 IB, which protrude from the rim of the receptacle 62 A which is connected to the opening 62B by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the element 50 in order to lift it and remove it from the support.
In the version of Figure 21, which is derived from the example of Figures 10-11 and is preferably open on the bottom of the receptacle 72 A which is connected to the opening 72B by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the color slide in order to lift it and remove it from the support, the color slide 50 is retained within said receptacle by the overlap of a plurality of flexible flaps 71 A and by the resting on a plurality of flexible flaps 7 IB which are alternated with the former flaps and are longer than them so as to remain below the color slide and keep it adjacent to the overlying flaps 7 IA.
In the version of Figure 22, which is derived from the example of Figures 16 and 17 and is preferably open on the bottom of the receptacle 82A which is connected to the opening 82B by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the color slide in order to lift it and remove it from the support, the color slide 50 is retained within said receptacle by two series of flexible flaps 81A and 83 A, which protrude so as to be parallel from the rims of the receptacle at different levels and with different dimensions, the underlying ones being larger.
It is obvious that without altering the general characteristics of what has been illustrated and described, the devised engagement system may be susceptible of modifications and variations which, comprised in any case within the present patent scope, might be determined by the use of materials other than the ones indicated by way of example and by adaptation to other
shapes and/or manufacturing techniques.

The engagement system according to claims 11 and 12, characterized in that the support (S) is obtained from a cardboard sheet (33), which after die-cutting in order to form therein the recessed seat (33A) and the opening (33B) connected to the former, is glued onto a sheet of paper (32) to be die-cut subsequently in order to replicate partly the previous die- cut and in particular in order to form the flexible flaps (32A, 32B) so that they protrude from said previous die-cut.
14. The engagement system according to claim 1, characterized in that, the disc (1) is retained, within a substantially polygonal recessed seat (42A) which is die-cut into a layer of cardboard (42), by a series of flexible flaps (41A) and by a corresponding number of flexible flaps (43A), which are larger and are located at the former flaps.
15. The engagement system according to claim 14, characterized in that each pair of flaps (4 IA, 43A) protrudes at one of the straight sides of the substantially polygonal seat (44A) which is connected to an opening (44b), from which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the disc in order to lift it and remove it from the support (S).
16. The engagement system according to claims 14 and 15, characterized in that the support (S) is obtained as follows: die-cutting of the thin sheet (42) and of the thicker sheet (44); gluing of the sheet (41) onto the sheet (42) in order to die-cut it, partly replicating the previous die- cut and most of all forming the flexible flaps (41A) so that they protrude from said previous die-cut; die-cutting of the flaps (43A) after gluing the sheet (43) onto the sheet (44) or onto the sheet (42) already completed by the gluing and die-cutting of the sheet (41); gluing of the already die-cut assembly (41, 42, 43, 44) and forming of the bottom by fixing the sheet (45).
17. The engagement system according to claim 1, characterized in that said support is preset to engage therewith a disc 1 on each of the two faces, both faces being preset, as in Figures 16 and 17, with a series of flexible flaps (41A) and with a corresponding number of larger flexible flaps (43A) at the former flaps.
18. The engagement system according to claim 1, characterized in that a photograph or color slide (50) is retained within the recessed seat (52A) of the support (S) by said flexible flaps (51A), which protrude from the rim of said receptacle (52A) which is connected to the opening (52B) by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the element (50) in order to lift it and remove it from the support.
19. The engagement system according to claim 1, characterized in that a photograph or color slide 50 is retained within the recessed seat (62A) of the support (S) by a sort of rigid pocket (61A) and by a pair of flexible flaps (61B), which protrude from the rim of said receptacle (62A) which is connected to the opening (62B) by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the element (50) in order to lift it and remove it from the support.
20. The engagement system according to claim 1, characterized in that the recessed seat (72A) is connected to the opening (72B) by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the color slide in order to lift it and remove it from the support, the color slide (50) is retained within said recessed seat by the overlap of first flexible flaps (71A) and by resting against a plurality of second flexible flaps (71B) which are alternated with the first flaps and are longer than said first flaps in order to remain below the color slide and keep it adjacent to said first flaps (71A).
21. The engagement system according to claim 1, characterized in that the recessed seat (82A) is connected to the opening (82B) by way of which it is possible to act with one finger against the edge of the color slide in order to lift it and remove it from the support, the color slide (50) is retained within said receptacle by two series of flexible flaps (8 IA, 83A) which protrude in a parallel configuration from the rims of the receptacle at different heights and with different dimensions, the underlying ones being larger.
