Abstract

The current invention provides a method for determining permeability of prospective hydrocarbons producing zones in a subterranean formation penetrated by a borehole. The method of the current invention enables a “real time” assessment of formation permeability using logins while drilling techniques. The method of the current invention measures formation resistivity and utilizes known parameters, such as the drill bit rate of penetration into the formation and the distance between the drill bit and the resistivity tool incorporated in the LWD assembly, to determine the permeability of the subterranean formation. A permeability log can be produced which identifies permeable zones in the formation.
