Description

PICTURN SIGN WITH EP ITROCHOID AL MOVEMENT OF INTERCHANGEABLE PRISMA TIC ELEMENTS.
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to the sector of advertising panel or similar multiple image presentation systems. Particularly, the invention relates to a new picturn sign consisting of interchangeable prismatic elements each moving epitrochoidally. This kind of movement is assured by the connection of the units ' base to a particular-shaped rotor which is operated by a transmission shaft run by a motor reducer and moves on a trochoidal profile.
BACKGROUND ART
The present invention aims at beating known systems and solutions within the advertising panel sector.
In this sector, picturn sign with mobile and interchangeable faces are well known and commonly used in public spaces for multiple advertising. One of the mechanical picturn signs currently used, normally alternates two or three faces arranged horizontally or vertically and rotating lengthwise. Two-faced and three-faced panels consist of flat straps and equilateral triangular prisms respectively. In the designing stage, such structures, particularly three-faced ones, involve contemplating a proper distance amongst prisms in order to prevent edges from colliding when rotating. Such distance, in turn, causes problems such as image discontinuity (due to gaps amongst prisms) which can invalidate the advertising message itself and create whirlwinds which, on the one hand, create annoying noises and, on the other hand, can even buckle the rotating prisms or straps .
The above mentioned systems fall within italian patents n. TO 87/67394 and MI91A000350.
In order to overcome the above mentioned problems, many new panels have been proposed, all using proper auxiliary devices or solutions such as the possibility of adjusting the permanence times of each image or alternating images by using both the simultaneous movement of all faces and programmable sequences so as to obtain special effects. However, although improving the state of the art as to the possibility of several adjustments and to the advertising pull itself- intended as the ability of a fixed image rather than a moving image to attract the visual attention (wave effect)- by using prismal or similar rotational elements placed on longitudinal axes, all the proposed solutions do not succeed in overcoming the problems relating to image discontinuity and noisy and, sometimes, destructive whirlwinds.
The above mentioned systems fall within italian and international patents n. MI91A001046, RM94A000455, US 6128841 , US6052931 , US 6295882.
Other kinds of picturn signs have been proposed consisting of canvas stretched between motorised rollers. Some more have been designed using mechanisms which move bands composed of tracked jointed elements. Although partly solving the above mentioned problems, these devices present all the problems relating to image alternation (resulting much less pleasant to look at) and to difficult representation of multiple adverts .
Therefore, some optoelectronic panel systems have been implemented: although allowing to obtain better kinematic effects, they result less visible in the light, imply very high assembling and managing costs and present many graphic and chromatic limitations .
However, neither current systems nor these two patent applications solve the above mentioned critical aspects .
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
This invention aims at overcoming all the difficulties and disadvantages resulting from the use of currently available systems.
However, although the present invention could be considered as part of the above mentioned devices as falling into the category of "picturn sign or similar multiple image presentation systems " , it is extremely different from them and improves the state of the art as it consists of interchangeable prismatic units each moving epitrochoidally. This kind of movement is assured by the connection of the units' base to a particular-shaped rotor which is operated by a transmission shaft run by a motor reducer and moves on a trochoidal profile. Particularly, the present invention consists of a picturn sign with epitrochoidal movement of interchangeable prismatic elements occurring via:
• a prismatic rotor (2) connected to the base of the 75 interchangeable prismatic elements. The rotor has a particular shape (it is equilateral-triangle-shaped with slightly convex sides- Reuleaux triangle- in case of triangular interchangeable prismatic units) and moves within a stator (3);
• a stator (3) whose trochoidal shape depends on the selected 80 prismatic rotor (its section reminds of a flattened ellipsis with two recesses (lobes) at the ends of the shorter axis, resulting in a curve called two-lobes Epitrochoidis, in case of a triangular- based prismatic rotor) and whose base (4) consists of a flat part with, in the middle, a hole for the insertion of the driving shaft 85 (5). characterised by the fact that:
• by following the Epitrochoidal strator profile (3), the prismatic elements ( 1) enable to reduce and, almost, remove the gaps amongst the elements themselves, thus avoiding image
90 discontinuity;
• by following the Epitrochoidal strator profile (3), the prismatic elements ( 1 ) are able to move simultaneously, some clockwise and others anti-clockwise, thus improving the advertising pull itself intended as the ability of a fixed image rather than a 95 moving image to attract the visual attention and allowing to obtain special visual effects ;
• the prismatic elements (1) are easily interchangeable (there is non need to operate on the mechanical-dynamic part) thanks to their male-female (or similar) bottom connecting system and to
100 a spring (or similar) hook-up/release top system, allowing a quicker replacement of visualised images;
• by rotating inside the stator (3) with a special orbitating movement, the rotor (2) sets in motion the prismatic elements ( 1) composing the several images on the panel;
105 • the whole system is operated by a motor reducer (8) which, in turn, runs a transmission shaft (7) housing a series of angular returns (6) transmitting the movement to the driving shaft (5). The main feature of the present invention is that the epitrochoidal movement of the prismatic elements enables to reduce and, almost, 110 remove the gaps amongst the elements themselves thus avoiding image discontinuity and allows the simultaneous rotation, in the opposite direction, of the interchangeable prismatic units thus improving the advertising pull itself intended as the ability of a fixed image rather than a moving image to attract the visual attention. 115 Advantages of the present invention:
1. epitrochoidal movement of interchangeable prismatic elements, generated by a particular-shaped rotor; 2. decrease and almost complete clearance in the gaps amongst prismatic elements, resulting in the avoidance of image
120 discontinuity;
3. simultaneous rotation of prismatic elements in the opposite direction, resulting in special visual effects;
4. use of hard prismatic elements which can be easily interchanged thanks to connecting or spring (or similar) hook-up/release
125 systems;
5. possibility of adjusting the permanence times of each image, the rotation direction, and of setting the several visual effects through auxiliary devices ;
6. prismatic elements' resistance to wind and severe weather 130 conditions due to the motion transmitted to the rotor by the driving shaft being adjustable as to the ratio depending on the section of the selected prismatic elements ;
7. efficient advertising pull, seen the stronger ability of a fixed image rather than a moving image to attract the visual attention;
135 8. maximum decrease in the friction amongst moving components, seen that the several mechanic parts made of antioxidant and self-lubricating materials move over self-balancing ball supports and bearings which, for safety reasons, are housed within the panel perimetric area;
140 9. maximum decrease in the maintenance interventions ;
10. decrease in motor reducer power consumption; 1 1. extreme safety of the panel as to people moving nearby. The above mentioned advantages will be clearer in the description of the enclosed pictures .
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Picture 1 shows a 3D section view of the panel highlighting the positioning of the several mechanical parts and a detailed image of the interchangeable prismatic elements ( 1 ), the angular returns (6), the transmission shaft (7) and the motor reducer (8) .
Picture 2 shows a lateral section of the panel highlighting, besides the above mentioned components, the rotor (2) , the stator (3), its base (4), the driving shaft (5), the spring (or similar) hook-up/release system and the connecting system with the bottom prismatic rotor.
