Description

DELIVERING TAP FOR ELASTIC VESSELS
The present invention refers to a delivering tap for elastic vessels for liquids , particularly for soft, semirigid or rigid vessels , for example of the type used for transporting water or various types of liquids, or for aseptic applications in which their contents must not be contaminated, or for delivering enzymes and fertilisers .
Various arrangements of the above-mentioned types of elastic vessels are known in the art . Herein below the invention will be described as applied to the field of elastic vessels of the soft type, for example polyethylene vessels adapted to contain water . It is obvious that, with adequate treatments (for example, as will be described, the presence of suitable welded mouths ) , the tap of the invention can be applied to elastic vessels of the semirigid or rigid type or of the so-called "bag-in-box" type .
Water vessels shaped as a plastic bag are widely used, for example in emergency cases, when an urgent need occurs of providing water to those who need it : so far, for this type of applications , the plastic bag-shaped vessel was cut or pierced to allow delivering liquid contained therein . However, once opened, such vessel could not be closed again, often implying a waste of the remaining liquid, which could have been used also at a later time .
Taps which are currently provided for this type of vessel in practice cannot be optimally used, since they do not manage to guarantee a perfect liquid seal which, by largely going out of the vessel once having opened or pierced it, actually makes it unusable for following uses .
Obj ect of the present invention is solving the above prior-art problems , by providing a delivering tap for elastic vessels which exploits the vessel elasticity to guarantee a perfect seal to the liquid contained therein, through a perfect coupling between itself and the vessel, once having inserted the tap in the vessel itself, and to guarantee that the same tap, due to its arrangement, guarantees a high oxygen protection, especially for aseptic applications .
A further obj ect of the present invention is providing a tap of the above-mentioned type which can be easily built with a reduced cost, being composed of a minimum number of parts : it will be the special arrangement of such composing parts which allows the tap to obtain the obj ects for which it has been built . The above and other obj ects and advantages of the invention, as will appear from the following description, are obtained by a delivering tap as claimed in Claim 1. Preferred embodiments and non-trivial variations of the present invention are claimed in the dependent Claims .
The present invention will be better described by- some preferred embodiments thereof, given as a non- limiting example, with reference to the enclosed drawings , in which :
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the tap according to the present invention;
- Figure 2 is an exploded perspective view of the tap of Fig . 1 ;
- Figure 3 is a side view of the tap of Fig . 1 ;
- Figure 4 is a sectional view performed along line IV-IV in Fig . 3 ;
- Figure 5 is a perspective view of the tap of Fig . 1 with seal means removed and in its delivering position;
- Figure 6 is a side view of the tap of Fig . 5 ; and
- Figure 7 is a sectional view performed along line VII-VII in Fig . 6.
With reference to the Figures , a preferred embodiment of the delivering tap of the present invention is shown and described. It will be immediately obvious that numerous variations and modifications (for example related to shape, sizes , arrangements and parts with equivalent functionality) can be made to the described tap, without departing from the scope of the invention as appears from the enclosed claims .
The delivering tap 1 of the invention can be used for elastic vessels for liquids (not shown) , and substantially comprises a support body 3 of a generally longitudinally elongated shape . The support body 3 contains elastic opening/closing means 5 : such elastic means 5 are adapted to assume an opening position in which they allow delivering liquids from the tap 1 and a closing position in which they sealingly close the tap 1 preventing liquids from being delivered therefrom.
In particular, the elastic means 5 are made, in their most widespread and efficient form, shaped as a dome and are equipped with an engaging member 30 (of an elongated cylindrical shape and with a tapered tip, and equipped with a circular groove 40 obtained on its body) adapted to engage a corresponding engaging proj ection 32 (of a cylindrical shape and equipped with a recess 42 adapted to engage the groove 40 of the engaging member 30 ) of engaging means 7 of the actuating means 6, which will be described below .
The inventive tap 1 then comprises delivery actuating means 6, which are composed of engaging means 7 with the elastic means 5 , and of pulling means 8 of the elastic means 5. The pulling means 8 are adapted to take the elastic means 5 into their opening position when a pulling force is exerted on the pulling means 8 themselves . Moreover, the engaging means 7 are contained inside the support body 3 , while the pulling means 8 proj ect out of the support body 3.
In particular, the pulling means 8 of the actuating means 6 are composed of at least one wing (and preferably two wings , as shown) proj ecting from the support body 3.
The inventive tap 1 further comprises at least one liquid delivering opening 11 from the tap 1 , in which such opening 11 is obtained in the support body 3.
In a particularly efficient variation of the inventive delivering tap 1 , the delivering opening 11 is equipped with at least one j et-breaking lip 22 adapted to dampen and route a delivery of liquids . Moreover, to guarantee the maximum efficiency to the delivered liquid flow, the section of the delivering opening 11 is preferably of an elliptical shape (as can be inferred from the perspective views in Fig . 1 , 2 and 5 ) .
The tap 1 then comprises at least one liquid entering opening 13 (and preferably, as shown, at least two openings ) into the tap 1 itself; such openings 13 are obtained in the support body 3 , and are preferably of a substantially rectangular shape .
Finally, in its basic embodiment, the inventive tap 1 is also equipped with piercing means 15 of the vessel ; such piercing means 15 are made at one end of the support body 3 , and are preferably composed of a tip-shaped end 15 of the support body 3 , which is obtained through a progressive reduction of the section of the support body 3 towards the end 15.
Due to the above described arrangement, the support body 3 of the tap 1 is adapted to be inserted in the elastic vessel due to a piercing to which the vessel is subj ected, by the piercing means 15, when the tap 1 is inserted therein through a pulling force . At the end of its insertion, the tap 1 realises a complete seal preventing liquids from going out of the vessel due to the elasticity of the vessel in which it is inserted.
The inventive delivering tap 1 can further be equipped with anti-tampering seal means 16 : such seal means 16 are placed around the pulling means 8 of the actuating means 6 in order to prevent their actuation when the seal means 16 are present . In particular, the seal means 16 are equipped with at least one tearable tongue 17 cooperating with a circular sealing band 18 closed onto itself as a loop through small closing teeth 19, which are adapted to be torn from the band 18 , when a tearing force is exerted on the tongue 17 to open the seal means 16.
Moreover, the inventive tap 1 can be equipped with stopper means 20 , which are adapted to stop the insertion of the tap 1 in the vessel when its correct insertion position is reached.
As further characteristic, the stopper means 20 are also adapted to prevent the tap 1 from overturning with respect to the vessel and to keep a longitudinal axis of the tap 1 in a perpendicular position with respect to the vessel , once having inserted the tap 1 in the vessel .
In particular, in the preferred embodiment, the stopper means 20 are composed of a plate 20 adapted to be placed in contact with an external surface of the vessel .
As further innovative characteristic, the tap 1 of the invention can further be equipped with withdrawal- preventing means 21 , which are adapted to prevent the withdrawal of the tap 1 once being inserted in the vessel .
The withdrawal-preventing means 21 are preferably composed of at least one circular notch placed on the support body 3.
In particular, the circular notches 2 are two, concentric and parallel notches .
Finally, the support body 3 of the tap 1 comprises a sealing area 24 adapted to engage the surface of the elastic vessel in order to make a perfect seal therewith . As already mentioned, the tap 1 according to the present invention finds a particular and preferable application ( even if not in a limiting way) , in addition to soft plastic vessels, particularly adapted to contain water, also on vessels of the "bag-in-box" type, or vessels of the semi-rigid or rigid type .
In this case, the vessel is equipped with a mouth adapted to be coupled with the tap 1 for guaranteeing a perfect liquid seal . Such mouth is preferably welded onto the vessel surface and the tap 1 is inserted therein, upon manufacturing the vessel or during its use . In this case , to guarantee the seal, the tap-mouth coupling is exploited, as occurs in normal "bag-in-box" systems .
In order to operate the above-described tap 1 according to the present invention it will be enough to forcedly insert it in the vessel full of liquid, piercing its surface through a suitable movement of a perpendicular or circular ( screwing-like ) type . Once penetrated into the vessel surface , the tap 1 will remain perfectly adhering thereto, without generating liquid leakages . Moreover, due to its particular arrangement (overturning-preventing means 20 ) , once having inserted the tap 1 , its longitudinal axis will remain perfectly perpendicular to the vessel surface on which it is applied, thereby guaranteeing a perfect vertical delivery, made easier by the sectional shape and the j et-breaking lip 22 with which its delivering opening 11 is equipped.
Some preferred embodiment of the present invention have been shown and described: obviously, it will immediately occur to the skilled people in the art that numerous variations and modifications , functionally equivalent to the previous ones , can be made, which fall within the scope of the invention as pointed out by the enclosed claims .
