Abstract

The invention relates to a reinforced flexible safety barrier for vehicle containment. The invention is designed to contain vehicles that lose control while travelling along a road. The invention consists of a longitudinal strip which is connected with anchors to metal supports that are positioned along the edge of the road, said strip comprising a undulating or non-undulating section (fig. 1) having a smooth or rough surface and round edges (fig. 1, r) and being produced from a material resulting from the recycling of end-of-life tyres (fig. 1, G). The interior of the aforementioned section is reinforced with metal straps (fig. 1, a) which render same resistant to traction in the event of vehicle impacts. The flexible nature of the barrier significantly reduces the seriousness of accidents as well as the damage caused to vehicles involved in accidents. The use of recycled material in the production of the barrier provides a considerable saving in relation to metal systems as well as improving the environment.

Description

Description Description
The invention is part of the safety barrier techniques that can be used to guarantee and increase the Road Safety of the roads, complying at all times with the technical specifications established in the current provisions on the subject.
Existen referencias de intentos de utilización de otros materiales, que no se han desarrollado en el mercado.[2] Deformable safety barriers are used with great profusion in road networks, by using longitudinal strips in general of steel and with less profusion, and only for special cases, of simple or reinforced wood. There are references to attempts to use other materials, which have not been developed in the market.
1 y 2.[3] The proposed system consists, in general, of the same functional solution provided by the metal barriers, although the longitudinal band that receives the impacts (fig 2) of the vehicles is formed with elastic material from tire recycling ( fig 1, G), reinforced by longitudinal steel strips (fig 1, a), which give it the tensile strength necessary to withstand impact loads. The shape of the cross section could adapt different shapes and designs and not just the traditional bionda reflected in figs. 1 and 2.
The amount of these inner steel reinforcements (fig 1, a), will be available depending on the desired containment levels, so it will be possible to have a range of profiles that allow optimum use of them in the different situations with maximum containment level, where very serious consequences of an eventual accident are anticipated; medium level, for serious consequences; and normal level in the other cases.
This will allow an economy in the amount of steel to be used, compared to the current single profile solutions, since the high amounts used are not conditioned by the tensile strength of the profile used but by its necessary surface area to receive the impacts In the case of the proposed profile, the surface is provided by the continuous band of elastic material from tire recycling, and the tensile strength, variable according to the level of containment, is provided by steel strips, with the appropriate amount to the different levels of containment.
The longitudinal bars of recycled rubber that constitute the containment system may carry a textile or metal mesh (fig. 1, m) inside the same (fig. 1, Section AA), as a reinforcement of skin, in order to reinforce the cohesion of the two materials that constitute it: the rubber and the steel, preventing that during a strong impact, the rubber can be 'opened' and leave in the air the steel strips that form the armor.
In order to reinforce the areas of greatest effort, which are those of moorings and fastening to the posts, continuous sheet reinforcements (fig 2, R) may be arranged to brac the straps together and connect all of them to the points anchor to the supports.
[8] La sección transversal de la barrera, cuya geometría del eje podrá coincidir o no con las barreras metálicas convencionales, tendrá el espesor adecuado para resistir, junto con las armaduras metálicas, los impactos descritos en los ensayos a escala real correspondientes, de acuerdo con la norma Pr EN 1317 del Comité Europeo de Normalización, y dispondrán de bordes redondeados (fig 1. r) en los extremos de la sección transversal, de manera que no presente unas aristas que puedan producir efecto cortante en caso de accidente.[8] The cross-section of the barrier, whose axis geometry may or may not coincide with conventional metal barriers, will have the appropriate thickness to resist, together with the metal reinforcements, the impacts described in the corresponding real-scale tests, according to with the norm Pr EN 1317 of the European Committee for Standardization, and will have rounded edges (fig 1. r) at the ends of the cross section, so that it does not have edges that can produce a sharp effect in the event of an accident.
On the other hand, the ends of the bars will have their bevel cut, or a joint type
'media madera', para permitir un mejor solape de los sucesivos tramos, y no presentar aristas vivas en el sentido de la circulación, (fig.2, b).'half wood', to allow a better overlap of the successive sections, and not to have sharp edges in the direction of the circulation, (fig.2, b).
The spacers between the longitudinal pieces and the support posts driven to the ground may be the same as those used for metal barriers or they will adapt to new characteristics of shape and resistance of the new reinforced elastic barrier.
The elastic nature of the proposed material (recycled rubber), has the advantage of its better performance against the damage caused by impacts, given the lower rigidity of the system compared to the solutions to use and its lower surface hardness
Thus it is expected that small and medium impacts of passenger cars with reduced angle of incidence, or speeds in the lower ranges, can be settled without any damage, both for the vehicle and for the containment system itself.
In the same way, in larger impacts, a reduction in their severity can be expected, compared to traditional systems, given the greater capacity of the elastic barrier to dissipate impact energies with a less violence, due to its elastic character.
Reinforced, given the use of Tires Out of Use (NFUs) in the manufacture of this new profile.
The industrial application of this product is evident, enabling an alternative to the current metal solution, whose almost monopolistic market and the prices reached by steel, give it a high cost.
[16] The solution provided by this vehicle containment system, through reinforced rubber profiles, from tire recycling, apart from a lower cost, provides a simpler assembly; less maintenance; greater security for the circulation; and a decrease in the severity of the accidents and the damages generated in them.
