[0002] 超音波診断装置は、超音波探触子に駆動信号を供給するとともに、超音波探触子 から出力される受信信号に基づき超音波像を再構成する。超音波探触子は、駆動信 号を超音波に変換して被検体に送波するとともに、被検体から発生した反射エコー を受波して受信信号に変換する振動子が配列されている。
[0003] 超音波探触子においては、振動子力 被検体に向けて超音波を送波する際、振動 子の背面側にも超音波が射出される。そこで、振動子の背面側に背面部が配設され る。例えば、背面部は、振動子の背面側に配設されるバッキング層と、バッキング層 の背面に積層された放熱部材とを有し、振動子の背面側に射出された超音波をバッ キング層で減衰させ、その減衰に起因してバッキング層に蓄積された熱を放熱部材 を介して外部に放出することが行われる (例えば、特許文献 1参照)。
しかし、振動子力も背面部に入射した超音波は、背面部で、特にバッキング層と放 熱部材との接合面で、反射して振動子側に戻ることがある。その反射波に起因して超 音波像の S/N(Signal to Noise)が劣化し、また超音波探触子の表面温度の上昇する おそれがある。
そこで、特許文献 1では、ノ ッキング層と放熱部材との接合面を振動子の短軸方向 に変化させることによって、接合面で反射して振動子側に戻る反射波を分散させてノ ィズを低減することが行われて 、る。

発明の開示
発明が解決しょうとする課題
[0005] しかし、特許文献 1に記載の、バッキング層と放熱部材との接合面を振動子の短軸 方向に変化させる方式では、超音波を直接減衰させるわけではないので、分散され た反射波の一部が振動子側に戻る可能性があり、反射波の低減に関しては、さらに 改善すべき余地が残されて 、る。
[0006] 或いは、特許文献 1のような方式では、振動子から放熱部材に入射する超音波を十 分に減衰させるために、ノ ッキング層をより厚くすることが考えられる。しかし、バッキ ング層で超音波を減衰できる一方、その厚みに応じて熱抵抗が増大して蓄熱量が増 えることになる。その結果、ノ ッキング層に蓄積された熱が振動子側に伝わりやすくな り、その熱に起因して超音波探触子の感度が低下し、また表面温度が上昇するおそ れがあるので、ノ ッキング層を厚くすることは好ましくない。

課題を解決するための手段

また、上記課題を解決するため、本発明の超音波診断装置は、上記のような超音 波探触子を備えることを特徴とする。

[0011] また、第 2の減衰部が第 1の減衰部としてのバッキング層内に形成される場合には、 第 2の減衰部の振動子側の端面の位置が、バッキング層の振動子側の面から振動子 の背面に垂直な方向に超音波の波長の整数倍だけ離れた位置となるように、該第 2 の減衰部が形成されることが好ましい。或いは、第 2の減衰部が放熱部内に形成され る場合には、第 2の減衰部の振動子側の端面の位置が、バッキング層と放熱部との 接合面から振動子の背面に垂直な方向に超音波の波長の整数倍だけ離れた位置と なるように、該第 2の減衰部が形成されることが好ましい。このように第 2の減衰部が形 成されることによって、超音波の波長の整数倍の厚みに相当する部分の音響インピ 一ダンスをほぼゼロにすることができ、背面部から振動子側に戻る反射波をより一層 抑制できる。
好ましくは、第 2の減衰部は空隙を有して形成される。さらに空隙には吸音材が充 填されても良い。この様に構成されることによって、第 2の減衰部で超音波を減衰させ る効果をさらに高めることができる。
[0012] 以上、本発明によれば、背面部力 振動子側に戻る反射波を低減するのにより好 適な超音波探触子を実現できる。また、超音波像に現れるノイズを低減するのにより 好適な超音波診断装置を実現できる。
発明を実施するための最良の形態

[0071] また例えば、放熱ブロック 14の接合部 14aから延在部 14bにまで跨って空隙が形成さ れても良い。つまり、空隙の厚みは超音波の十分な減衰効果が得られる範囲で任意 に設計することが可能である。図 11(B)にその例を示す。図 11(B)は、放熱ブロック 14 の接合部 14aから延在部 14bにまで空隙が形成されている例を示している。その空隙 に吸音材が充填されても良い。
[0072] また例えば、ノ ッキング材 12に空隙が形成されてもよい。その例を図 11(C)に示す。
図 11(C)の例では、バッキング材 12の振動子 10側の面力 空隙の上面 (振動子側の 端面)までの厚み Ubは、超音波の波長の整数倍に設計されている。そして空隙には 吸音材が充填されても良い。この形態によれば、振動子からバッキング材に入射した 超音波は、厚み Ubに相当する部分を通過して空隙の吸音材でほとんどが減衰する。 これにより、振動子に戻る超音波を抑制でき、多重ノイズを低減できる。
[0073] また例えば、ノ ッキング材 12と放熱ブロック 14の両方に空隙が形成されてもよい。そ の例を図 11(D)に示す。図 11(D)は、振動子 10の背面から超音波の波長の整数倍の 厚み Ublを空けて厚み Ualの空隙がバッキング材 12内に形成され、さらに、バッキン グ材 12の背面力 超音波の波長の整数倍の厚み Ub2を空けて厚み Ua2の空隙が放 熱ブロック 14内に形成されている例を示している。そして、各空隙にはそれぞれ吸音 材が充填されても良い。
[0074] また例えば、上述の図 11(A)〜(D)の例を任意に組み合わせた構成としても良い。
また例えば、上述の図 11(A)〜(D)の例は、超音波探触子の長軸方向に空隙が形成 された例を示しているが、短軸方向にも、上記図 11(A)〜(D)の例と同様に、空隙が形 成されても良い。
なお、上記図 11(A)〜(D)の例で示された空隙の形状に限定されることなぐ例えば 図 9と図 10に示された様な略円形や三角形、或いは多角形の断面を有し、大きさの 異なる空隙力 S1以上形成されても良い。

請求の範囲
[1] 被検体との間で超音波を送受する振動子と、前記振動子の背面側に配設された背 面部と、を備え、
前記背面部は、
前記振動子の背面に配設されて、前記振動子から放出される超音波を減衰させる 第 1の減衰部と、
前記第 1の減衰部の背面に配設されて、前記第 1の減衰部からの熱を放熱する放 熱部と、
を有する超音波探触子において、
前記背面部は、前記振動子力 放出される超音波をさらに減衰させる第 2の減衰部 を有してなることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[2] 請求項 1記載の超音波探触子において、
前記第 2の減衰部は、前記放熱部内であって、該放熱部と前記第 1の減衰部との接 合面から離れた位置に形成されていることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[3] 請求項 1記載の超音波探触子において、
前記第 2の減衰部は、前記第 1の減衰部内であって、該第 1の減衰部の前記振動子 側の面力 離れた位置に形成されていることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[4] 請求項 2記載の超音波探触子にお 、て、
前記第 2の減衰部の前記振動子側の端面の位置が、前記接合面から前記振動子 の背面に垂直な方向に前記超音波の波長の整数倍だけ離れた位置となるように、該 第 2の減衰部が形成されていることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[5] 請求項 3記載の超音波探触子において、
前記第 2の減衰部の前記振動子側の端面の位置が、前記第 1の減衰部の前記振 動子側の面力 前記振動子の背面に垂直な方向に前記超音波の波長の整数倍だ け離れた位置となるように、該第 2の減衰部が形成されて 、ることを特徴とする超音波 探触子。
[6] 請求項 1記載の超音波探触子において、
前記第 2の減衰部は、前記背面部内における前記振動子の長軸方向の少なくとも 一部に形成されていることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[7] 請求項 1記載の超音波探触子において、
前記第 2の減衰部は、前記背面部内における前記振動子の短軸方向の少なくとも 一部に形成されていることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[8] 請求項 6又は 7記載の超音波探触子にお 、て、
前記第 2の減衰部は、前記背面部の一方の面力 他方の面まで貫通して形成され て ヽることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[9] 請求項 2記載の超音波探触子において、
前記放熱部は、前記第 1の減衰部との接合部と、該接合部から前記振動子の背面 に垂直な方向に伸びる延在部とを有してなり、
前記第 2の減衰部は、前記接合部と前記延在部の少なくとも一方に形成されている ことを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[10] 請求項 2記載の超音波探触子において、
前記第 2の減衰部は、少なくとも一つの空隙を有することを特徴とする超音波探触 子。
[11] 請求項 10記載の超音波探触子において、
前記空隙は、前記振動子の背面に平行な二つの面と、該二つの面を連結する曲 面とにより形成されていることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[12] 請求項 11記載の超音波探触子において、
前記二つの面の内の前記第 1の減衰部側の面の少なくとも一部は、前記接合面に 対して平行とならな ヽように形成されて!ヽることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[13] 請求項 10記載の超音波探触子において、
前記空隙は、複数形成されて、
二以上の前記空隙の各々は、前記振動子側の面の位置が、前記接合面から等距 離となるように形成されていることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[14] 請求項 10記載の超音波探触子において、
少なくとも一つの前記空隙の断面形状が、略円形となるように形成されていることを 特徴とする超音波探触子。
[15] 請求項 10記載の超音波探触子において、
少なくとも一つの前記空隙の断面形状が、略三角形となるように形成されていること を特徴とする超音波探触子。
[16] 請求項 15記載の超音波探触子において、
前記略三角形の断面形状を有して隣接する 2つの空隙は、前記振動子の背面に垂 直な方向に関して互 ヽに反転した断面形状を有して形成されて 、ることを特徴とする 超音波探触子。
[17] 請求項 10記載の超音波探触子において、
少なくとも一つの前記空隙には、吸音材が充填されていることを特徴とする超音波 探触子。
[18] 請求項 17記載の超音波探触子において、
前記吸音材は、シリコン又はエポキシ榭脂を含むことを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[19] 請求項 2記載の超音波探触子において、
前記放熱部の少なくとも一部が、前記振動子の背面に垂直な方向への熱伝達路と なるように該放熱部内に前記第 2の減衰部が形成されていることを特徴とする超音波 探触子。
[20] 請求項 1記載の超音波探触子において、
前記放熱部は、前記第 1の減衰部に接合する第一の放熱部と、該第一の放熱部よ りも前記振動子カゝら離れた位置に形成されている第二の放熱部と、前記第一の放熱 部と前記第二の放熱部とを熱的且つ機械的に連結する連結部と、を有し、
前記第 2の減衰部は、前記第一の放熱部と前記第二の放熱部とに挟まれて形成さ れて ヽることを特徴とする超音波探触子。
[21] 被検体との間で超音波を送受する振動子と該振動子の背面側に配設された背面 部とを備えた探触子と、前記探触子に駆動信号を供給するとともに該探触子力 出 力される受信信号を処理する送受信部と、前記送受信部力 出力される受信信号を 整相加算する整相加算部と、前記整相加算部から出力される受信信号に基づき超 音波像を再構成する画像構成部と、前記画像構成部から出力される超音波像を表 示する表示部とを備え、 前記背面部は、
前記振動子の背面に配設されて、前記振動子力 放出される超音波を減衰させる 第 1の減衰部と、
前記第 1の減衰部の背面に配設されて、前記第 1の減衰部からの熱を放熱する放 熱部と、
を有する超音波診断装置において、
前記背面部は、前記振動子から放出される超音波をさらに減衰させる第 2の減衰 部を有してなることを特徴とする超音波診断装置。
