Abstract

The method of chemical recycling of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste to terephthalic acid (TA) and/or ethylene glycol (EG) by use of a multistage hydrolysis of waste PET for the purpose of its depolymerization and next successive separation of products formed in the process of multistage hydrolysis, where the multistage hydrolysis is executed at least in two stages, while from the resulting product of the first stage of the multistage hydrolysis is at first separated the solid crystallic part, where the second product is mother liquor. Crystallic part are formed crystals of TA together with intermediate products which is then introduced together with water into the second stage of two- stage hydrolysis where after its termination the formed crystals of raw TA and secondary mother liquor are separated from the final product. EG may be obtained by separation of water from the residual and secondary mother liquor.
