Abstract

The present invention provides a reinforcing fiber, a flexible concrete prepared using the reinforcing fiber and a method for preparing the concrete. The reinforcing fibers of the present invention comprises a polyester fiber as a core for improving tensile strength; an alkali-resistant material coated over the polyester fiber having profiled surface; an active agent coated on the alkali- resistant polymer material for better dispersion of the said reinforcing fiber in the concrete/mortar. The reinforcing fibers in the flexible concrete improve the flexibility, continuity and strength of the concrete.

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 11 September 2006 (11.09.06)
1. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar comprising:
a. a polyester fiber as a core for improving tensile strength;
b. a polypropylene material or alkali-resistant polymer material coated over the polyester fiber for improving corrosions resistance of the polyester fiber against the cement; and
c. an active agent coated on the alkali-resistant polymer material for improving dispersionability of the reinforcing fiber in the concrete/mortar.
2. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar as claimed in claims 1 wherein diameter of the polyester fiber is 5-15 micron and the thickness of the coating of the polypropylene or alkali resistant material over the polyester fiber is 7.5-12.5 microns.
3. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar as claimed in claims 1 and 2 wherein said alkaline resistant polymer material is carbon, nylon or the polymers having high resistance to the alkaline conditions.
4. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar as claimed in d&m 1 wherein said polypropylene or alkaline resistant polymer material coated with a profiled surface to increase the surface area of the reinforcing fiber.
5. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar as claimed in claim 4 said profiled surface is a ribbed, semi-perforated, corrugated, embossed or the like surface.
6. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar as claimed in claim 1 wherein the fiber have a diameter between 8 micron and 30 micron preferably 20 micron.
7. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar as claimed in claim 1 wherein said fiber has a length between 3mm to 30mm preferably between 6mm and 19mm.
8. A reinforcing fiber for concrete/mortar as claimed in claim 1 wherein said active coating for improving dispersionability of the reinforcing fiber is silicon oil or equivalent.
9. A flexible concrete/mortar or mortar comprises reinforcing fibers as claimed in claims 1-8 in a predefined proportion.
10. A flexible concrete/mortar as claimed in claims 9 wherein the proportion of the reinforcing fiber mixed in the concrete/mortar is between 0.15-0.20 Kg/m3 of concrete.
11. A flexible concrete/mortar as claimed in claim 9 and 10 wherein said concrete is set with or without steel.
12. A method of preparing a flexible concrete/mortar or mortar comprising steps of:
a. adding a predetermined quantity of reinforcing fiber as claimed in claims 1-8 in water;
