Description

DEVICE FOR REMOVING MASCARA MATERIAL
BACKGROUND Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a device for removing mascara, and more particularly, to a device for removing mascara with a means for easily removing the mascara applied on eyelashes.
Discussion of Related Art Recently, there is universal recognition that removing makeup is more important than putting on makeup. However, there is no special way to remove mascara applied on eyelashes around eyes, which are the most sensitive parts of a face. Therefore, users cleanse their faces with water or general makeup cleansing cream, and nowadays, mascara-removing material, which is available to buy from cosmetic stores, is used.
The method of using the mascara-removing material, which is most widely used among these methods, includes smearing on make-up cotton with mascara-removing material several times, directly rubbing and cleansing mascara applied on eyelashes with the cotton, and then washing the blotted mascara around eyes.
However, the mascara removing method using the mascara-removing material causes various inconvenience and problems in use. First, the mascara-removing material may be excessively used. This is because a very small amount of mascara-removing material smeared into the make¬ up cotton is used to remove the mascara, and the rest is thrown away with the make-up cotton where the mascara-removing material is smeared. Second, since the removed mascara spreads on eyes, the users should cleanse their faces with water or wet tissues. Therefore, it is difficult to remove the mascara under the situation that the water or wet tissues are not prepared. Third, the eyelashes may be pulled out a lot. Since the mascara is not well removed, when the user strongly rubs the eyelashes to remove the mascara, the eyelashes are pulled out whenever the mascara is removed. Fourth, since the user strongly rubs the skin around the eyelashes, the skin around the user's eyes may be wrinkled. Finally, the most serious problem is that the user's eyeball may be damaged. Since the sanitary cotton with the mascara-removing material is directly rubbed on the eyes, the mascara-removing material may be smeared into the eyeball to damage the eyes though the user closes her or his eyes.
Although the mascara-removing material has the serious problem such as damage to the eyes, there is no special way or prior art to remove the mascara.
Meanwhile, a beauty instrument for curling eyelashes upward to provide beautiful appearance, so called "an eyelash curler", which may be used to include the mascara removing means in accordance with the present invention, has been invented as various shapes and widely used. Technology for eyelash curlers is well-known, contents of which are disclosed in Korean Utility Model registration Nos. 20-310090, 20-355316 and 20-338830, and Korean Patent Laid-open Publication No. 10-2004- 16508. Hereinafter, their structures and descriptions will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view illustrating the structure of a scissors-type eyelash curler disclosed in Korean Utility Model Registration No. 20- 310090. The eyelash curler includes: a first grip member 110 having support rods 112 extending from a grip body 111 in a divided manner, and an upper setting member 114 horizontally fixed to upper ends of the support rods 112; and a second grip member 120 having extending parts 123 bent from a grip body 121 and provided with two shaft holes, lifting rods 124 pivotally bifurcated from the grip body 121 to the extending part 123, and a lower setting member 126 fixed to the extending part 123. As described above, the eyelash curler clips and releases the eyelashs using the upper and lower setting members by inserting fingers into the first and second grip members 110 and 120 to close and open the fingers. FIG. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the structure of a press-type eyelash curler disclosed in Korean Utility Model Registration No. 20- 355316. The eyelash curler includes a body 210; base parts 212 and 213 attached to an upper end of the body 210; guide parts 214 and 215 attached to the base parts 212 and 213, respectively; a curling frame having a first curling part 216 formed at upper ends of the guide parts 214 and 215 and having an arcuate shape; and a lever 220 having one end connected to the body 210, a central part having a resilient member 230 interposed between the central part and the body 210, and the other end connected to a second curling part 222 formed corresponding to the first curling part 216. As described above, the eyelash curler can clip the eyelash by manually pushing the lever 220 to allow the first and second curling parts 216 and 222 to be in contact with each other.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The present invention will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which preferred embodiments of the invention are shown. This invention may, however, be embodied in different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of a device for removing mascara in accordance with the present invention. Referring to FIG. 3, the mascara removing device 1 generally includes an upper grip member 10, a lower grip member 20 corresponding to the upper grip member 10, an upper clip 30 connected to the upper grip member 10, and a lower clip 40 connected to the lower grip member 20. The upper grip member 10 includes an upper grip part 12 formed at its one end, an upper body 14 extending from the upper grip part 12, and support rods 16 bifurcated from the upper body 14 to have a space larger than the width of eyelashes .
The upper grip part 12 has a ring shape through which a finger can be inserted, but not limited thereto.
The upper body 14 extending from the upper grip part 12 transmits power of the finger inserted through the upper grip part 12 to the upper clip 30, and a forceps-shaped connector 15 is formed at the other side of the upper body 14 opposite to the upper grip part 12 to joint a pivot pin 23 installed at a lower body 24, which is to be described below. At this time, the forceps-shaped connector 15 has a hole 13 for inserting the pivot pin 23. The support rods 16 bifurcated from the forceps-shaped connector 15 are laterally widened until the space is larger than the width of eyelashes, and then maintains a uniform space when the space is wider than the width of eyelashes. At this time, each of the support rods 16 includes a stopper band 17 to prevent the lower clip 40 from lifting more than a certain height. The lower grip member 20 includes a lower body 24 crossing the upper body 14 like scissors, a lower grip part 22 extending from one end of the lower body 24 to correspond to the upper grip part 12, and a lifting link 26 pivotally connected to the other end of the lower body 24. The lower grip part 22 formed at the one end of the lower body 24 has a ring shape corresponding to the upper grip part 12, and the other end of the lower body 24 has a hole 27 to connect to the lifting line 26. In addition, the pivot pin 23 inserted into the hole 13 which is formed at the other end of the upper body 14 is formed at a position corresponding to the hole 13. The lifting link 26 connected to the other end of the lower body 24 is inserted into the hole 27 to be pivotally connected to the lower body 24, and both ends of the lifting link 26 are connected to the lower clip 40. At this time, the lifting link 26 has an approximate V-shape, a center of which is inserted into the hole 27, and the both ends of which are connected to the lower clip 40, but not limited thereto.
The upper clip 30 connecting the ends of the support rods 16 has an arcuate shape corresponding to the shape of an eyeball. The upper clip 30 presses eyelashes downward and prevents the support rods 16 from being widened. In addition, the upper clip 30 is provided with an absorbent member 32 into which mascara-removing material is to be smeared. The absorbent member 32 includes a base layer 33 and an absorbent material attached to the base layer 33. The base layer 33 may be formed of silicon and so on to adhere the absorbent material to the upper clip 30. The absorbent material 34 may be formed of any material having absorbent characteristics and harmless to eyes, for example, cotton, gauze, Velcro loop, sponge, and so on. Meanwhile, the absorbent member 32 may be securely or detachably fixed to the upper clip 30.
The lower clip 40 connected to the lifting link 26 is formed to conform to the upper clip 30 to press the eyelashes upward. Since the upper clip 30 has the arcuate shape, the lower clip 40 preferably has an arcuate shape. A comb 42 is mounted at a surface of the lower clip 40 in contact with the eyelashes, and the comb 42 includes a base layer 43 adhered to the lower clip 40 and a plurality of comb teeth 44 pinned into the base layer 43. The comb teeth 44 effectively remove the mascara by combing the eyelashes, when the upper and lower clips clip the eyelashes to remove the mascara. The comb teeth 44 may be any resilient material that can be formed to have a comb-teeth shape, and densely or sparsely arranged in one or more rows according to uses. The comb 42 may also be securely or detachably fixed to the lower clip 40.
Sequentially, a method of using the mascara removing device in accordance with the present invention will be described in conjunction with FIGS. 3 and 4. FIG. 3 is as already described above, and FIG. 4 is an enlarged perspective view illustrating the operation of the device for removing mascara in accordance with the present invention. The mascara removing device 1 is similar to the conventional eyelash curler except functions and operations of the absorbent member 32 and the comb 42 mounted on the upper and lower clips 30 and 40, so the uses of the absorbent member 32 and the comb 42 will be mainly described. In order to remove the mascara applied on the eyelashes 50, when the user inserts her or his fingers into the grip parts 12 and 22 of the device 1 to widen the grip parts, the grip parts 12 and 22 are separated from each other. At this time, the mascara-removing material can be smeared into the absorbent material 34. The mascara-removing material may be mascara- removing material available from markets, water, or the like. After smearing the mascara-removing material into the absorbent material, the eyelashes are inserted between the upper and lower clips 30 and 40. Next, when the fingers are closed after inserting the eyelashes, the eyelashes 50 are in contact with the absorbent member 32 of the upper clip 30 and the comb 42 of the lower clip 40. At this time, the mascara- removing material smeared into the absorbent member 32 is intruded onto the eyelashes 50 to dissolve the mascara, and the comb teeth 44 of the comb 42 are inserted into the eyelashes 50 in a combing manner. Meanwhile, the fingers are closed to some extent and then stopped, since the lower clip 40 is hooked by the stopper bands 17 formed at the support rods 16 to be not lifted more. As a result, it is possible to prevent the comb teeth 44 of the lower clip 40 from being damaged due to contact with the upper clip 30 and the comb teeth 44 from bending to pierce the eyeball. Preferably, the stopper bands 17 are installed at a position such that the comb teeth 44 are in contact with the absorbent material 34 although the comb teeth are lifted up to the maximum point. In order to more rapidly remove the mascara on the eyelashes 50, the comb teeth 44 may be flexibly or resiliency transformed to be in contact with the absorbent material 34 to remove the mascara from the eyelashes 50. However, in this case, since the comb teeth 44 may be excessively bent to damage the eyelashes 50, the lower clip 40 may be configured to be further lifted up by about 3mm after the contact. As described above, when the mascara removing device 1 is smoothly pulled out in the arrow direction of FIG. 4 after the upper and lower clips 30 and 40 entirely clip the eyelashes 50, the mascara dissolved by the mascara-removing material is removed by the absorbent material 34 and the comb teeth 44. When repeating the removing processes two or three times, the mascara can be more cleanly removed.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of a device for removing mascara in accordance the present invention. The second embodiment is similar to the first embodiment except that the upper clip 30 is provided with another comb 42 instead of the absorbent member 32. Since the comb 42 also has a certain degree of hygroscopicity, the second embodiment may perform the same function and operation as the first embodiment. As shown in FIG. 6, both the upper and lower clips 30 and 40 may be provided with the absorbent members 32.
Hereinafter, a fourth embodiment in accordance with another aspect of the present invention will be described with reference to FIGS. 7 and 8. FIG. 7 is an exploded perspective view of a device for removing mascara in accordance with the fourth embodiment of the present invention. The mascara removing device in accordance with the fourth embodiment includes a first grip 50, a second grip 60, and a connecting means for connecting the first and second grips 50 and 60. The first grip 50 includes a first eyelash clip 51 formed at its one end. The first eyelash clip 51 has a crescent shape so that the clip 51 can be easily in contact with the eyelids, but not limited thereto. The first eyelash clip 51 is in contact with a corresponding shape of second eyelash clip 61 to clip the eyelash, and a surface of the first eyelash clip 51 opposite to the second eyelash clip 61 is provided with a comb 52. At this time, the comb 52 may be formed at or attached to the first eyelash clip 51 in various manners, preferably, integrally formed with the grip in case of injection molding, for the convenience of a manufacturing process. The second grip 60 includes the second eyelash clip 61 formed at its one end. The second eyelash clip 61 has a shape corresponding to the first eyelash clip 51 of the first grip 50, and a surface of the second eyelash clip 61 opposite to the first eyelash clip 51 is provided with an absorbent member 62 for absorbing water or mascara-removing material. In this process, preferably, the absorbent member 62 is detachably attached to the second eyelash clip 61 in consideration of wearing or tearing characteristics of the absorbent member 62, which may be formed of cotton, gauze, Velcro loop, sponge, and so on. The connecting means connects the first and second grips 50 and 60 to configure the first and second grips as one structure, which are not separated from each other. Here, preferably, the connecting means is configured such that the eyelash clips 51 and 61 of the first and second grips 50 and 60 function as forceps to clip the eyelashes. The connecting means in accordance with the fourth embodiment includes connecting holes 71 formed in the first grip 50, and a connecting projection 72 formed in the second grip 60 and inserted into the connecting hole 71 to allow the first and second grips 50 and 60 to pivot on each other. In this process, a spring 73 having both ends respectively extending in angled directions can be inserted into the connecting projection 72. The spring 73 functions to maintain the first and second eyelash clips 51 and 61 in the widened state when they do not clip the eyelashes, and close the clips 51 and 61 when they clip the eyelashes. Meanwhile, the structure for applying a resilient force to the first and second grips 50 and 60 using a spring may employ various methods such as a method of inserting a spring between the first and second grips 50 and 60.
In addition, preferably, an angle adjustment means for preventing the first and second grips 50 and 60 from widening more than a predetermined angle is formed. In this embodiment, the angle adjustment means includes a first extension part 53 extending from the other end of the first grip 50 opposite to the first eyelash clip 51, and a second extension part 63 extending from the other end of the second grip 60 opposite to the second eyelash clip 61. The first extension part 53 of the first grip 50 is bent in a line extending from the first grip 50 by a predetermined angle, and the second extension part 63 extends from the second grip 60 in a straight direction so that the first extension part 53 is in contact with the second extension part 63 to be widened no more when the first grip 50 is released. Hereinafter, the operation of the mascara removing device in accordance with the embodiment of the present invention will be described. In an unused state, the mascara removing device maintains the state that the first and second eyelash clips 51 and 61 are widened by a predetermined angle by the resilient force of the spring. In this state, when a user inserts her or his eyelashes between the eyelash clips 51 and 61 and pushes the first and second grips 50 and 60 to be in contact with each other to clip the eyelashes. After clipping the eyelashes, when the mascara removing device is smoothly moved backward, the mascara applied on the eyelashes is wiped by the comb 52 and the absorbent member 62 to be removed. At this time, the mascara can be more readily removed by smearing water or mascara-removing material into the absorbent member 62. When the first and second grips 50 and 60 are released after removing the mascara, the first and second eyelash clips 51 and 61 are returned to its original state by the spring 73.
In the meantime, as shown in Korean Utility Model Registration No. 20- 355316, the mascara removing device in accordance with the present invention may be configured to include a biasing means installed at the grip without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention. That is, the biasing means (or the lever 220 shown in FIG. 2) may be installed at the body of the grip and connected to at least one clip to transmit power to clip the eyelashes. Therefore, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various mascara removing devices may be made to remove the mascara applied on the eyelashes by adapting the comb and the absorbent member.
Effects of the mascara removing device in accordance with the present invention are as follows. First, it is possible to suppress water or harmful chemical mascara- removing material from permeating into eyeballs to protect the eyeballs, since the absorbent member and the comb teeth are in contact with only the eyelashes. Second, the mascara on the eyelashes can be rapidly and cleanly removed, and the mascara-removing material can be less used, since the mascara- removing material is selectively smeared only on the eyelashes. Third, it is possible to provide significant effects in comparison with the conventional method by using water instead of mascara-removing material which is on sale, and to save costs since make-up cottons, creams and so on are not used.
Fourth, it is advantageous to maintain the beauty of eyelashes by preventing the eyelashes from being pulled out during the mascara removing process.
Although the present invention has been described with reference to certain exemplary embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that a variety of modifications and variations may be made to the present invention without departing from the spirit or scope of the present invention defined in the appended claims, and their equivalents.
